Inside my artistic little soul was in heaven- huge pieces dazzled me and tiny treasure were just as enticing. They have one artist that makes miniatures and they were all so sweet- I snagged a tiny black cat! I also picked up a couple Christmas gifts & another glass ball for my collection- I hadn't bought one in years & John may have encouraged me a bit since it was such a cool "hot shop". I didn't even mind waiting to check out as the workers were blowing a vase, once it was ready to break from the punty- the master glass blower broke to ring me up. The guys take you through a safety seminar before even getting close to the molten glass. Colors of glass from green, orange, yellow, blue all compliment the iridescent glow. And what? For context, we have no glass blowing or ceramics experience. What to know beforehand: -You need to wear long pants, long sleeves, and closed-toed shoes and masks! -Picking colors and designs in person may take a while (if you're very decisive you may not have this problem). There are tons of options for what you can make and with what colors so it took at least an hour for us to pick and choose. The final price of your piece can also vary depending how big you want it to be and what color(s) are involved. -It'll take a day for the piece to cool when you're done, so you'll have to pick it up another day. -Small parking lot on-site in the back along with street parking. The beginning glass lesson experience: -David was very good at teaching and support. I felt more like the designer of the piece than the glassblower/creator, but David really gives you every safe opportunity he can to give you hands on experience in the process and talks through every step. You're not just paying for a glass piece here - you're paying for David's 40+ years of experience blowing glass! Felt more like I was shadowing a glassblowing process. I learned a lot and had a great time. -Cynthia was also helpful in confirming the design during the process. I didn't know how to explain that I wanted more of a flare at the top of my design at one point but she caught that for correction. Some fun learnings: -If you want to seriously get into glassblowing, paperweights are the best shape to learn and practice. -The punt of the glass is super sensitive. We also learned a bit about identifying manufactured vs. handmade glass through it. -The Netflix show Blown Away is a fun show to watch if you want to see more glassblowing -Some glass colors are easier to work with than others, and if you're mixing colors in one piece, depending on the colors you're mixing, can make it harder or easier to shape because they affect how stiff the glass can be (lighter colors tend to be more stiff, darker colors tend to be more soft). My friend picked dark blue and green and hers came out great! Mine came out a little warped because I picked a longer piece with two very contrasting colors (dark blue and light pink), but David helped reshape it a little. This year, their summer art events are "Art of the Garden" at the main gallery and "Cambium Layers II" at the mezzanine gallery. They have events throughout the year, rotating in special exhibits, classes, summer camps, and more. I chatted with the staff working there, and they are always very personable. While the Fresh Paint art festival is relatively modest with the length of two city blocks, the exhibit inside the center makes the drive worthwhile. If I was more of an art creator, I would definitely look into their classes. They have an impressive array from ceramics and clay to digital to glass, and classics like painting, sculpture, and woodcarving. The facility looks new and is very clean. I would recommend them both to shop for art (at front gift shop or during an exhibit period) and for their classes.

Megan, who was the gal leading a glass art class there at the time and helping us, offered for us to come to the pottery class that was scheduled in a little over an hour from then. We said sure! She was so nice that she even offered for us to join the glass art class free of charge for the inconvenience! Megan was the Instructor for both the glass art and pottery classes we were a part of. She was very knowledgeable, always eager to offer help and suggestions, and very friendly. Me and my friend had a lot of fun making the glass art that we would not have originally done with out her kindness. The pottery class was very good as well, and she was a great instructor for that too. Me and my friend are both looking forward to how are pieces turn out! Highly recommend signing up for a class here and expressing your creativity!

The selection was very interesting. The glass is all locally produced right there in their own hot shop. There were some very creative pieces. The most creative pieces were the most expensive, however there were plenty of pieces that were not too expensive. Robin the owner was fabulous and explained how my art piece was made. Since the hot shop is adjacent to the gallery, you can watch the artists make the glass art. It is very interesting and there are some beautiful pieces.

Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly employee, and when I told her I was new to the hobby she took her time explaining different types of glass, showing me a grinder and giving me some advice about choosing glass for my budget and skill level. She left me to browse but came back to check on me, which I found very thoughtful. I really appreciate that Covenant has a "small projects" section with smaller pieces of glass- perfect for getting a good variety without breaking the bank. A different employee rang up my purchase and was also extremely helpful, friendly, and encouraging. The atmosphere at Covenant was very peaceful and it made me feel at ease. I will definitely be back to buy more glass (and maybe take a class!) at Covenant.
