Best Jamaican food I've had in Jacksonville Thus far!! Small family owned spot on the Westside.. from the moment you walk in you feel the authentic culture of Jamaica.. service is usually quick since all the food is on the line already prepared.. I tried the oxtails and brown stew chicken.. oxtails were tender and fall off the bone just how i like, very little fat mostly meat great flavor Brown stew chicken was well seasoned Cabbage was nice and seasoned Rice was a little mushy but still good flavor Homemade fruit punch was tasty, mango passion fruit juice was refreshing, tasted like they squeezed the fruit inside the bottle.. Patty was a bit spicy but tolerable.. overall i will be driving the 25 mins when i have a craving for some good Jamaican food..

After a long day at the dealership - I had to eat something with some flavor. We ended up at Star's Caribbean. They had a little wait but nothing out of the way. All the food tasted amazing and my mother raved about the curry. I loved their cornbread and wish I would've ordered a few more pieces. I do recommend going early - they seem to start running out of things around 6pm. Will definitely be back.

I had a hankering for some rasta pasta, so I took to Google and this place popped up as having it as a menu staple. Sweet! So I moseyed on over. The place is small, it does have some dine in seating, but it looks like most people take their orders to-go, as I did. For their rasta pasta, you can choose any of their meats to accompany it. So of course I went with the oxtails. I also decided to get a small curry chicken to see what it was about. The told me it would be about a 20-minute wait, but my food was ready in under 15. The rasta pasta was amazing!! Definitely top 2 I've had in the city. The pasta was so good, and the oxtails were meaty, juicy, and super flavorful. The curry chicken itself was also delicious - moist, succulent, great flavor. However, the rice and peas and the cabbage were incredibly bland. I got extra gravy but that didn't do much to save the sides. Overall, this place has its meats down pat, and the rasta pasta is a game changer, so I would definitely come back. But I had to take a star off for the tasteless sides.

Super fast service, and workers were very friendly. Ask them if they could add extra curry sauce on top and they happily obliged. Prices are good for how big the plate was, I got the large oxtail curry. They were out of beef patties but I tried the chicken and it reheated perfectly the next day!

I order a large oxtail white rice with gravy and plantains cost me 30 bucks, and two patties cost me 10 dollars, charge me extra for gravy a gave me 6 half pieces of oxtails and I asked them what was ready now and she said oxtails and still had to wait 35 min never received my plantains, service is terrible and they are price gauging. This was my last time ever going here

Jerk Chicken, rice and peas, plantains and cabbage!

Whats better than supporting your own people, Caribbean it was. Ordered a Jumbo oxtail plate and a regular jerk chicken plate. Picked up the order bag was tied and ready to go. We left came to the house and opened them plates. Pure disappointment. I think the restaurant did this because the food was already paid for. EVERYONE WHO EATS HERE AND ORDERS ONLINE, HAVE THEM UNTIE THE BAG AND SHOW YOU YOUR FOOD. How does a Jumbo oxtail plate look like a regular plate? If i order extra gravy i want the gravy from the meat i ordered. Not a jarred sauce. My cousins jerk plate was dry as h3ll. I asked him has his plates in the past looked dry? He said no, he mentioned that his past plates the chicken is juicy with tons of gravy. Very disappointing for a black owned restaurant. I dont want to blame the restaurant as a whole as we know how the food comes out based on how the chef is preparing plates. The chef for September 09, 2026 was not hitting and needs to be reevaluated. I have let my family know who frequents this place to put that on pause. My cousin is already hesitant about returning. And i know when i return next year i definitely will not be back. I should have taken pictures but didnt. Just know people check your plates before you leave.

There was island music playing in the background to set the vibe, along with a map of the Caribbean at every table. My jerk chicken came out quickly and was delicious. The plantains were the perfect consistency, which is important to me because some places dry them out. I asked for a side of pepper sauce and it's quite hot, so consider yourself warned! While I was dining, the owner, Peter, came over and was chatting with the patrons. The ladies at the next table clearly knew him well, and I love that there are local relationships at the restaurant. It was fascinating hearing about his transition from the finance industry in Trinidad to being a restaurant entrepreneur! I only wish I had had had space to try the rum cake. It would be a joy to come back to Irie Diner and support a local business!
