Best Jamaican food I've had in Jacksonville Thus far!! Small family owned spot on the Westside.. from the moment you walk in you feel the authentic culture of Jamaica.. service is usually quick since all the food is on the line already prepared.. I tried the oxtails and brown stew chicken.. oxtails were tender and fall off the bone just how i like, very little fat mostly meat great flavor Brown stew chicken was well seasoned Cabbage was nice and seasoned Rice was a little mushy but still good flavor Homemade fruit punch was tasty, mango passion fruit juice was refreshing, tasted like they squeezed the fruit inside the bottle.. After a long day at the dealership - I had to eat something with some flavor. We ended up at Star's Caribbean. They had a little wait but nothing out of the way. All the food tasted amazing and my mother raved about the curry. I loved their cornbread and wish I would've ordered a few more pieces. I had a hankering for some rasta pasta, so I took to Google and this place popped up as having it as a menu staple. Sweet! So I moseyed on over. The place is small, it does have some dine in seating, but it looks like most people take their orders to-go, as I did. For their rasta pasta, you can choose any of their meats to accompany it. So of course I went with the oxtails. I also decided to get a small curry chicken to see what it was about. The told me it would be about a 20-minute wait, but my food was ready in under 15. The rasta pasta was amazing!! Definitely top 2 I've had in the city. The pasta was so good, and the oxtails were meaty, juicy, and super flavorful. The curry chicken itself was also delicious - moist, succulent, great flavor. However, the rice and peas and the cabbage were incredibly bland. I got extra gravy but that didn't do much to save the sides. Overall, this place has its meats down pat, and the rasta pasta is a game changer, so I would definitely come back. This is the most disorganized restaurants in America. During my visit, I waited over 40 minutes for a takeout meal. It was clear that delivery orders were being prioritized over in-person diners, which is unacceptable. Despite having ten staff members behind the counter, the service was remarkably slow, and the manager on duty appeared to lack the necessary training in operations and staff management. (5/22/26 afternoon) Furthermore, the quality of the food was disappointing. The jerk pork was dry and the jerk chicken did not meet Jamaican standards. Additionally, after being informed that my original side order was unavailable, I was inappropriately asked to pay an extra fee for a replacement. I strongly recommend that they re-evaluate workflows and prioritize walk-in customers. Customers should never have to wait for meals, while Stars prepare Call-In Orders. Folks, avoid this restaurant and choose another restaurant that values its customer. TEN staff working behind the counter are incapable of serving customers within ten minutes. read more

Star's has been one of those places that's mostly consistent when it comes to the quality and quantity of the food. Sad day when they stopped including corn bread with the meal. It is family run and most of the staff is nice. My biggest complaint every time though is that the wait takes forever. I've made call in orders only to wait an additional 10-15 minutes after arriving. There's even been times when I had to wait 45 minute after ordering at the counter. With all that being said. I noticed their menu no longer displays a price. Neither does the screens behind the counter. I understand price of food has gone up, but not knowing how much you are going to pay for your meal is wild. They don't even offer a lunch special. Jam Bros which is down the street has been my go to lately. Especially for lunch. The wait is outside, but you can wait in your vehicle. I also recently found a Caribbean spot in the Lackawanna area. Last weekend while visiting Mt dad and brother both agreed that they wanted some ox tails. Being that I'm need to this side of town I googled Jamaican f food and stumbled upon STARS. Let me tell you, it didn't disappoint. I called in the order. The service was great. We arrived and the food wasn't ready but they were busy. Again the customer service was very good. I've been eating here for a long time and there is generally plenty of food ready to go, they just take their sweet time getting it to you. It's all good home cooking and I love the spices and variety of flavours but they won't get 4 stars from me without more effort. Update: The service is still poor and the cashier treated me like I didn't belong there. After waiting over 20 minutes my larger order came as a small and I was served with plantain when I requested cabbage. I was the only person there.
