Love this place. Of course the staff Joyce and Greg made me feel right at home over 25 years ago. You walk in and the good smells hit you first . Then you could spend a very long time in here . So much to look at . I used To paint ceramics for them years ago . They were so cool . Wish I could still get the ceramics but I suppose people got older and just did not want to make them any more or passed away . They have any music that you could possibly want . Wide selection of band apparel like I said you could spend a very long time here . All I can say is places like this are far and few to find. I can remember coming here when I was a teenager and just recently I stopped in here again. Nothing has really changed. If your looking for records or cassettes from years past they probably carry it. They sell everything from Bongs to pipes to concert t shirts and everything else you can imagine. I've been coming to Starships's for over a decade. The staff has always been helpful and nice. There's a huge selection of LP's and CD's. If you love music you'll love it here. I always recommend this place to my friends and I like coming here so much that it's a place I go to for fun whenever I'm bored. They don't overprice any of their items either. Down-to-earth friendly service and a huge selection of CDs, vinyls, t shirts and more. I asked for the brand new Arch Enemy "Decievers" album on CD, and although they didn't have it yet, they had a bunch of older releases. They had Dissection and DarkThrone CDs spanning a long time and in pristine condition. My one and only pet peeve is the pricing-- it's crazy overpriced sometimes. New CDs are 20-40 bucks! Could be better. I picked up Dismember "Like an Ever Flowing Stream" on CD and still rock it. This place is so cool!! I live right down the road, and have always wanted to check it out, but for some reason I just hadn't. When expressing this in passing to my boyfriend, he told me that he used to frequent this business often and promptly turned around. I wasn't quite sure what to expect. This isn't your typical gift store. But if you're looking for a gift for that someone in your life who is more 'alternative', into MMJ, CDs and records, this is the place. They have body jewelry (gauges, belly button piercings, nose rings), posters, a massive wall of CDs, rows and rows of records, drug rugs, pipes, rolling papers, adult play content and much more. We browsed for a bit, and I enjoyed it. I love quirky, hole-in-the-wall type of stores and this is exactly that. This shop is for the people who don't exactly like to be labeled, but aren't like everyone else. Which is a great thing. I can classify this as a Tulsa Gem, and will definitely be back! read more

I just love this record store. Easily a customer for life and will visit even if I'm just passing through Tulsa. They have such a cool and vast collection. The last time I was there, we were visiting from Houston, TX and I didn't really have the time to spend (friends outside waiting in an Uber). Found a couple of gems on the wall behind the counter in a rush. We are planning another visit to Tulsa late December just to visit Starship Music and a used hardware store - yeah, that awesome. Try to find a record store, go on... They have gone the way of the dinosaur. Which makes Starship so special. While they'll never have the resources of a Amazon.com, they do have something that the big guys will never have, which is a love of music. Do the right thing and support a locally owned business. The is grandfather of all Tulsa Record stores. Starship has been around for decades, and has an unnatural/awesome staying power for a record store. If you're new to Tulsa, check 'em out. Good folks work here. Pro tip: This is THE place to be on Record Store Day; they get the most exhaustive RSD shipment. If there's a particular record you're looking for and can get there early enough on RSD, you'll probably be in luck. read more

The record selection here was disappointing --- they only sell new vinyl, and the prices were at least 10% more than you'd usually spend elsewhere. I understand there's a premium for B&M shops, but some prices were just plain unreasonable (check the Jazz section). If you're a collector looking for used vinyl or like digging, this is definitely not the place for you. The CDs are all in locked cabinets, and there is a large inventory, but it would appear to be a hassle if you actually wanted to buy one. read more

I miss the old location, in a house converted to a record store, but the new location still offers the goods. The new space is wide open and well lit, not like the old store. Things change though. I need to respect that too. Many of the local kids knew Starship as the place to find what the malls didn't carry before the internet. Today it's the place you can find local music you might miss online. I still like shopping in a real store where the real people can give me advise on music I like. I miss the old blue and yellow house, but the new location still has plenty of treasures to discover! read more

My favorite band put out this amazing cd called Patience. It was out of print and I searched hi and low for it. I tried Borders Music, Yahoo, Ebay, and such. No one had it. I heard thru the grapevine that Starship had it from a friend. Everyone knew I was dying for it. Behind my friends back, I went to Starship...and heck yeah! They had it. It was a great day for Ti B. Starship is awesome....little diamonds in the rough at this location. It is cramped, dark, and questionable on what the employees do here on their free time...but a totally resourceful spot. Great record store, been going to starship for over 15 years; yea the other location was a lot cooler than the lumber yard they call home now, but it doesn't matter. Music selection is epic, I'm from colorado and HAVE to hit starship every time I'm in town. I've grown up going to record stores throughout the world and these dudes are legit... I'll be honest though, I don't think I've ever seen an employee actually smiling or being super nice or enjoying their jobs, which is sad given that you work in a record store. Two dudes at the front were cussing left and right and kept saying c*nt over and over which was strange.... I'm from the land of head shops and legalization and the employee attitude kinda kills the vibe for me of buying any glass or water pipes.. 5 stars for the shop, 2 stars for the employees. read more

Despite rumors that this neat little "everything" shop has closed, it's still open, but in a new location. I live in Chickasha, but every time I make a trip to Tulsa, I find time to visit. It's well worth the return. As a record shop, they have a bunch of titles that are fairly priced available. However, there aren't very many titles available for back order... They also have walls and walls of CDs and tapes. I think of this as a local "mini mall since even tho the store is called "starship records", it has a variety of other things. It has incents, cloths, jewlery, and a mini tobacco and adult shop, which is in a different room of sorts. read more

Man, I've been visiting Starship since I was a baby hoodrat, and it's one of the original business that has inspired me to shop locally. HOWEVER, the last 3-5 times I have entered this store, I have just encountered a bunch of older dudes hanging out behind the counter on their phones. No one ever asks me if I need help or if I'd like to look at anything, and I always end up taking my money somewhere else. I came in today for the last time, and still couldn't get any acknowledgment. There are less expensive shops with in a five minute drive of Starship, with much wider variety of products, and more competitive pricing, AND people who acknowledge your presence and appreciate you spending your hard earned money with them. read more

I am only speaking for the head shop part of the store in this review. This is also the first review i have ever written, but I was forced to because the experience was so bad. The big lazy lady behind the counter acted like it was an inconvenience to pull a few glass pipes out of the case. I mean that one of the main reasons you are there. She was very rude, and one of the worst people I have dealt with in customer service. It was clear to me and everyone else (including her co-worker, who was very nice) this lady hated her job and wanted to do nothing. That woman should never deal with the public. read more

Awesome place with unique kind of has that underground feel to it. Specifically the shirts that you won't find anywhere else The only negative thing for me is I hate asking for help because the employees seem put out when trying to help me with a shirt or something. The CD selection is the best in Tulsa. The back stock on records isn't too good, but when something first comes out you can more than likely find it there. Was there before I downloaded Yelp. The store is very busy, the prices are sky high. Half the stuff they sell can be found on Amazon cheaper, The music they play isn't for everyone, I got a headache from it in the 30 minutes I was there, if your not into loud alternative emo crap then you won't enjoy it, they do have some hard to find items but there out of the average person's price range. read more

I have to say when I first visited this place I was a little apprehensive, but after visiting this store multiple times I've come to find out that some of the people here are very nice. My overall feel about this store is that its a nice place to find some oddities but in a good way. I'm not sure of the names but there is one guy that works there, not sure if its the owner or what not but he's very welcoming and its nice to know that you are acknowledged whether you are entering or leaving the store. The store has a nice little variety of things that is so different than most little shops you go into and I love the unique and different items they have. I do wish that they had more to choose from but from what they have, it works for me. I've bought a couple things from them and to me I believe that they are decently priced. If I lived closer I would definitely visit it more often. read more

This place is an abomination! I swear it is just a front for stoner hippies who want to pass away listening to Leon Russell! I was told they had the most comprehensive music collection in town. NOT! I went there looking for the latest release by Emoticon, which you would have to have been in a Mexican-dirt-weed-induced-stupor not to have heard about, or carry in your up-to-date record store. When I couldn't find it, I asked the "sales associate" if it was in their inventory. When he finished concentrating on sucking the dregs out of his 96 Oz. Big Hawg Mountain Dew from the local gas station, he said, "Huh?" Repeated inquiries proved no more fruitful. To be honest with you, I think the tree-hugger was ready to call the cops when he sensed my frustration through his caffeinated, mary-jane-addled anhedonia! I'm sure I would have had better luck if I had asked for Marillion! They will not entertain my business again! read more

Unfortunately this place is closed, but the couple of times I was able to make in a couple years ago were all great. They had some cool, hard to find stuff and the staff was really cool. My uncles used to go in there all the time in the 70s and regaled me with stories. Bummer it's gone. read more

Great selection of music, great variety of novelty gifts I tend to get some things here for Xmas. The head shop part is great ok selection but the clerks on that side are helpful and friendly. But on the flip side the clerks on the music side act just like Randall on Clerks, which is fine until you need them to grab something on a high shelf. Shop here if you look for death metal, hard rock, punk etc. that you can't find in other shops. Little to no used vinyl. DI tend to only come here for gifts and head shop stuff the prices are on the high side. For general vinyl I go downtown to Spinster Record store and get excellent customer service with the same price range unless I'm getting something hard rock or metal then I'll deal with the Randells lol read more

I went here for the 1st time this past week. I am not from the area, just visiting from California. First thing I like to do in a new town is look up local record shops. When I walked in no one said "hello" or "welcome". No one offered me help finding something, and I was obviously walking around confused. None of the workers even made eye contact with me. Looked like they were all just texting on their phones. There's a few record shops in my town (San Luis Obispo) and I always get greeted and helped if needed. I thought people in Oklahoma were suppose to be more friendly. Well the older crowd is I guess, but not this youngish crowd. I actually spend a lot of money on vinyls and found a few I liked and was willing to pay 30+$ each but I put them back because of the lack of customer service. Maybe the people that work here are just stuck up and think they are better than everyone cos they work at a "cool record store!" But whatever. I'll never go back there! read more

What a disappointing store. When you walk in, you better know exactly what you're looking for because browsing is almost impossible. They keep everything under glass, lock and key so if you want to see anything before purchasing, you have to call over the clerk (if they're not busy) and have them unlock the display and pull it out for you. Then they're going to hawk over you while you make a decision to buy it or not so they can lock up the display again. This is completely anti-customer and if I can't handle the product/be trusted to look at the merchandise on my own before purchasing, I may as well go to Amazon (which, incidentally, puts places like this out of business). I found the new prices to be about standard (usually $14 to $18, maybe more) for a small indie store, which wouldn't be terrible (I've seen better prices though from other indie retailers) except their used selection is almost non-existent. Good luck if you're from out of town and want some used CDs...you're going to leave empy-handed. The locals may enjoy this store but I've seen better at multiple music stores and found the trip to be pretty much a complete waste of time. read more

Lots of great things to shop for, definetly what a head shop should be. With loads of band merch, from Kiss, Ozzy, Pink Floyd, led zeppelin etc. Than your great choice of tobacco bongs, pipes and accessories. The workers are pretty friendly, helpful but a few.are just quiet and do their job only kinda people. Overall great. Pricey, but quality is amazing. read more

I went to starship to buy a torch lighter and asked for a recommendation from an employee. I bought one he suggested ($20), took it home and tried to use it. It was out of fluid!! I literally used the lighter twice (yes, I saw a total of 3 flames come from that lighter including the employee showing me) and it was totally empty. I called and explained and was told I would need to come in and buy more fluid! Fat chance. The employees at starship have never been friendly or knowledgeable about their products, and their prices aren't good. Go to Nirvana Smokes on 11th instead. read more
