This is my second review of this company. I am partially handicapped and cannot move myself anymore. This is the best moving company in St Petersburg FL. Show up on time, very friendly, never in two moves was anything broken or scratched. This last move, everything unloaded and I locked my storage unit. The next day I returned to get something and didn't realize it was completely organized and I had aisles I could walk down and find things. They really deserve zero. We hired them quite awhile ago so this review is late, but we still talk about them even now. We used them more than 10 years ago now, but what they did was destroy our stuff. We hired them to pack 2 rooms and put our stuff in storage. When we went to get our stuff they had my husband sign the paper saying you had everything back before they took him to the bin and he signed because he was frustrated with everything we had gone through just to get in touch with them. However, once he saw what they did it was too late to do anything about it. They have not packed our stuff in boxes but they had literally thrown things into the storage bin. My daughter's laptop was destroyed along with many other things. There was no care or concern taken and they had even put a washer and dryer in the storage that was supposed to had stayed in the house with new owners. I would never use their services again and I would tell everyone I knew to never use their services. I was honestly very surprised to see that they were still in business. If you are going to work in a a company where you are taking care of other people's belongings, you should take care to not destroy their things and be respectful of them. These people are not respectful at all and were very rude when we were trying to get our storage. No wonder they did not want us to see what they had done as the storage unit looked like a tornado had struck it. We decided that they are starving artist because nobody wants to give them any business. I would try calling anybody else but them and if I couldn't find anyone else I would move myself which is what we are doing this time. These guys are great. For us they had a challenging move from 3 & 4 floor apartment with no elevator to rural three story town house with no elevator 50 miles away. They arrived exactly on time, even brought in an extra person when they saw our job. Easy to work with, very careful, great at asking questions, taking directions, keeping us in the loop at both ends of the move. This is second time we have used Starving Artists and will again if needed. Reasonable price. No surprises - always great when moving! read more

***Update: a month later and still haven't been contacted in anyway besides their response to this post. *** I had very positive part of my move and two very negative aspects. First - the communication of timing and information of when they would arrive was horrific. I rushed back just to wait 2 hours with no updates from anyone. Second - once they finally arrived they were very nice and efficient removing everything from my old place. Not a single issue, this is where they gained stars Third - the new place was a bit of a challenge to get items in. I was told that they have never not gotten a couch into an apartment, but magically I was the first. The older gentleman in charge didn't seem to want to try and the younger two guys thought there was a chance through the back door. However they never got the chance to try. I was let with my couch on the front lawn and my box spring sitting in my family room. Neither one of this items was ever addressed or apologized for, instead the older man couldn't get out of there fast enough. After addressing this with the company I was offered a refund, great, that's very nice. However it's been 6 months and 5-6 calls trying to get a call back from a manager in order to try and get my refund. The professionalism and overall customer service is below par and I wouldn't think of using this company again. read more

I would hope that people would watch these movers while they are in their homes moving things around. On the following date, 9/5/15, 2 movers, came into our duplex apartment and moved a large armoire out. In the process, they broke a door damaging it to the point that it does not close properly, they dented walls and beautiful wooden stained doors on their way out of the apartment. I asked one of the men to go back into the apartment to fix the door they had damaged and apparently he was looking around for something other than the door to fix. He caught sight of a large pocket watch with a white face, an old beautiful watch and took it! When I went to look for it, it was gone. When they delivered the armoire to the place they were supposed to, they began to beg for cash, not stopping in their asking. I immediately called Starving Artists and was talked back at when I told them what was going on. They refused to acknowledge what had occurred and defended the two men. I never got this expensive watch back...The bottom line is that they had STOLEN IT, and it was gone forever!!!!!! Don't take your eyes off these people and/or DO NOT ask for this moving company!!!!!! read more

Starving Artists has moved me twice in the past and were not only pleasant and careful with what little I had after loss and "Acts of God", they were considerate of time and expedient. Let me start out by saying I had used this company in 2008 and was very pleased. When i purchased a new house, I called SAM and arranged for a "move". Chris was very pleasant and accommodating on the phone. The day finally arrived for the move. I was at the new house, my S.O. was awaiting SAM arrival at the old house. At the walk through, it was discovered a few mouse droppings in the basement. At that point, "Chuck"?, the foreman took it upon himself and state that the whole house was infested. He told me over the phone that he did not see anything on any other floor, but reported to the office he did! With five cats, not one mouse had a chance in hell on the main floor. However, since that was noted in a closed basement, they were "unable to service me". Living in N.H. in the woods, I'm sure you will find many homes with mouse droppings at some point. "Chuck" was very unprofessional, making derogatory remarks about the situation that should not have even been made an issue. Having left with no movers on a Friday....we were able to employ a very reputable moving company the next day. Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere! read more

The estimate was off by (their admission) over 20%. Their foreman didn't care a darn bit about our belongs. Their crew, by and large, were a bunch of amateurs that are probably good at moving small apartments but certainly not well cared for homes. They trashed some very expensive custom made furniture, and we are now dealing with their insurance carriers. And they gave us a hard time, intimadating that it was our fault about darn near everything. Definitely not recommended, in fact avoid them at all costs. Call United Van Lines. read more

If you are looking for movers to move an hustle look elsewhere. I hired 3 guys for a labor only due to our lease agreement. They were slow and unprofessional. They went down the stairs an a couple accasions empty handed, chit chat inside my moving truck for 5+ minutes at a time, and made multiple comments about my high quality bobs furniture. (I have a two year old). What took myself and two of my friends 15 minutes to off load ( non movers) took the professional movers over 2 hours. This was the worst mistake we made hiring this company. Thought we would save money by using a local mover instead of previous movers. THE WORST! Crew is obviously not trained properly in lifting and moving. Banged walls, very slow didn't reassemble furniture properly or tighten,would carry one small item from truck at new house. Supervisor mostly stayed in the truck. cost more than out of town movers would have do to the time charged to do the job. Sad when the laborers complain to me about the company.
