I never knew this place was out here on 280! I always just tend to think if you want to go out in Birmingham, it's always on 280. But this is a hidden gem on 280 in Greystone. We came here for my friend's 25th birthday. We got here around 8:00pm, and there were only a few other people not in our group. Once it got closer to 10:00pm though, this place was packed! Almost everyone here was a really good singer! I was shocked. The drinks and service was really good. And you got to sing pretty often if you wanted to. read more

I was recently here for a co worker's little birthday get together. When I arrived, they check ID at the door as this is a 21 and up establishment. It was nice little atmosphere for a Saturday night. -Although it was rather hot inside. I had never been to this location before. The crowd was very entertaining! They have small fried food and a full bar menu. I didn't like having to purchase a bottle of water when I asked for a cup of water.......Especially considering I saw someone brought a glass of water. It was explained to me that you have to order a shot and ask for water at the same time. Ok., whatever We had a fun night and overall this is a nice venue located off 280. The Greensprings location is no longer available in business. I will likely return with some of my friends in the future. read more

Where to start... First off we got here at opening time... The ONLY reason i could get up and sing lol. Wait staff is very friendly, and once the drinks start flowing the entertainment is abundant!!! Some good singers, and of course some bad!!![ me ] lol. All in all a very entertaining night, this is one of hose spots where you need to get here by 9 to get good seats and then the libations have kicked in :) Well worth the trip to have sone fun and sometimes fun at others expense lol I will add a side note, very clean place and when you spill a drink.... I do not normally give poor reviews since I tend to just not go back but I disliked this experience enough to make a comment. The karaoke software they use does not have many common songs. I signed up to sing 10 songs and got to sing 2 while we were there for 2 hours or more. 10 dollar cover is tacky since most everyone is purchasing drinks anyway. Talked to owner at the bar and he told me that if I am going to complain about any of his staff not to waste my breath. Young lady running the karaoke had no personality and was borderline rude. If I could give zero stars I would. This place was a nightmare. We came for a birthday party and had messaged the page ahead of time asking if we could bring a cake in. We got there with about 20 people or more and they told us we couldn't have the cake due to health department rules (which is bs) even after we showed them the messages where they said it was fine. Good management would have accepted responsibility. The manager has a horrible/petty attitude and just seems money hungry. Cover? Really? Ugh. The servers seem annoyed to serve you. They want you to order drinks but are annoyed that they have to hear you order drinks and then serve you said drinks. The drinks are poured light and are small. For the karaoke - the don't go in order of who requests. They go in order of who they like more. So forget waiting your turn. You may not get to sing even if you put in a request way before someone else, just because they like to see them on stage more. The scene is full of old townies and is not hip at all. You're better off hooking a laptop to the tv and doing youtube karaoke at your house than coming to this joint. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. If you decide to go.. bring cash. $5. Great place and in a great area! The bartenders and all the staff are very friendly. I have been about a half dozen times and wanted to leave a review. I am not sure about these other people's review, they may be party poopers or just sour rude people. Even the people that show up to sing are some of the nicest people. Everyone cheers on and claps for the karaoke singers. It's a great place to go ANY DAY of the week starting at 7 to relax and see some cheap entertainment. This lounge has a 'dress code' that men cannot wear backwards hats or tank tops. Mind you this is not an upscale place...it's a dive bar. Needless to say, dress codes like this have been used historically to discourage black and brown patrons from visiting a space. This racist and segregationist policy was only shared with my group when our waiter told my black male friends to turn their hats around. We were so offended we left. Also, this 'policy' is not shared publicly anywhere in the bar, but when black people came in all the sudden it was a 'security policy'. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE. read more

Kind of smelly, like it used to be a smoking bar...you know, before "the law." We got there pretty early and the majority of the staff (except the actual bartender, who one in our party knew) couldn't have cared less. That includes the karaoke DJ. When we were finally able to tear him away from the girl at the front door, it was like pulling teeth to even find out how to request a song. Eventually, some people, who I can only assume are regulars came and had a bit of a karaoke battle. I don't sing. Period. But I'll go and have fun and drink. First thing you should know is bring cash. $5 cover is cash only. You can buy beer with a credit card but cover is cash only. Second is the server food but the waitress told me "our food sucks". Sounds like a great sales pitch. The people had a good time and some can really sing. Stall in the men's bathroom doesn't lock. Waitress got mad when I went to the bar to get my own beer. Well.......you are to slow. So eat first. Bring cash. Plan on getting your own drinks. Since I don't do singing I won't be back. We love Starz! This is our go-to date night spot. We love to sing and listen to everyone else and they follow a process in singer order. The wait staff members are helpful and friendly and the cover charge is very reasonable. So much more fun than just going to a bar where there is no entertainment. read more

I like the place little cramped for the amount of people they get on a fri-sat. Only gripe I have is if the song you want to sing has a curse word in it they will turn off your mic while singing. Sorry you allow cigarettes and sell alcohol but the owner who is a bartender is offended by curse words. Please. Why I have moved on to other bars. read more

We came here for my best friends bachelorette party. We just wanted to sing and have a good time but the bartender ruined it for us. She played double duty between the bar and the karaoke machine. The service was incredibly slow and she didn't pay any attention to us. Her friends were there and in three hours we sang two times while her friends kept going over and over again. Starz 280 is the best karaoke in Birmingham! Great song selection, friendly staff, and some really good (and a few bad!) singers. Either way, it's entertaining. $5 weekend cover, smoking porch, and a nice mix of regulars & 1st timers. They let you bring in pizza from a good place 2 doors down. Routine to see birthday groups, bachelorette parties, work groups, etc. All combine for fun, festive venue. read more
