Despite only eating at this establishment twice, I very much enjoy this restaurant. As a picky eater, I always keep it simple with chicken and fries. Let me say, the chicken they serve is top notch, crispy, good portions and perfectly delectable. May I also say the fries are delicous, you can tell they are made in house and are very crispy and I appreciate the size of each individual fry. So the visit to State and Main last week was very hit and miss. Starting with the hits. We ordered the Friday night cocktails ($2 off) and here we have the New York Sour and Mexican Bulldog The New York Sour was absolutely AMAZING It's made with whiskey , egg white , sour mix and red wine . Seems like an odd combo but honestly it had the perfect tart and wine taste. I was with three other guys and they all loved this drink and would recommend it to everyone! That's how good it is For the Mexican Bulldog, I personally only thought it was only OK but Mr C liked it. It's definitely picture worthy tho! The glass was biiiig with a mini corona in it! Now for the miss. The French Dip. I loooveeee beef dip at most places so I was hoping I'd love it here too but unfortunately...no. This is made with shaved Angus beef, mushrooms, onions (which I opted out), horseradish mayo & Swiss cheese with au jus. As I was eating it, I actually forgot there's mushroom in it cause I couldn't taste it at all (not sure if this is a good or bad thing?) and the au jus was just way too watered down and seemed more like a broth than the usual au jus (a thicker liquid). I did finish it all but I wasn't very satisfied with it. The side poutine, on the other hand, was actually very delish! Lotsa flavour and every without the cheese and gravy, the fries itself was enough to make the entire meal better. it did spark a discussion with our group tho - should restaurants bring ketchup with fries or should customers have to ask each time? Lemme know in the comments below! Another miss would be our server. It was Friday night so it was busier but we still expected them to put in a bit more friendly customer service. Our friend ordered his drink and wanted to order food as well but before he could, the server walked away right after the drink order. Throughout the night, we had to constantly wait for a long time to be able to make another drink order. This was probably the most disappointing part of our dinner experience. We got exactly what we expected. We're just disappointed in ourselves for walking into the establishment in the first place. Drinks, over sugared. Food just not good. Service, seemed annoyed that we were there. Just everyone was disappointed with everyone else. And the food and drinks joined in. read more

Food was OK, but mostly the standard Sysco food supplies. Service was good, restaurant was loud, music loud not people loud. It wasn't busy yet my table of three had a table of 6 sat "thisclose" to us along the bench/table seating. No barriers, pretty sure I could have reached over and touched their meal. Had the traditional eggs Benni, hash browns a little over salted, eggs a little over cooked, ham was from processed sandwich ham thinly sliced. Price was good at $10 plus change but could get the same for less in any breakfast joint. My overall experience was great. I was that annoying guest who came in at 11pm on a Friday, sat at the bar, ordered a water with lemon, a green tea, and chicken tenders (bartenders insert eye roll here). The lone bartender was getting his butt kicked, but still paid more than enough attention to me, food was great, and the time between ordering and eating was minimal. Parking was a bit of a biznatch, but I guess that's a weekend evening in downtown 'stoon for ya. The plum sauce that comes with the tenders is monayyyy, and I chose broccolini as my side for the win. Food just wasn't very good. Had the ribs and chicken. Ribs were very mediocre - I would have cooked them much longer - and the blackened chicken was almost burnt and very salty. Mashed potatoes and gravy were actually very good. Next time I'll probably try a few sides and avoid the mains, because this seems like more of a drinks place - I don't think the food can stand on its own. The dirt pie saved the meal. read more

Went to State and Main for my mom's birthday. The food was cold and they only have one waitress serving all of the restaurant and patio. After mentioning to the waitress that our food was cold, our food was taken back to the kitchen and nuked. She said she mentioned it to the manager but no one ever came to talk to us or did anything about it. read more

I have only been to State & Main a handful of times but every visit has been memorable. The food is delicious with lots of choices for sides (my boyfriend & I love the dill dip!). The decor is modern with a sophisticated feel and the service is excellent. On our last visit the manager, Ayden, went out of his way to ensure we were having a great experience. One of my favorite places to eat at while visiting Saskatoon. I absolutely adore the jalapeño Mac and cheese, it's so creamy and not overly spicy, has the perfect kick to it it. Also love the bang bang shrimp, it's absolutely delicious. I hate sharing it with others, that's how good it is. LOVE their beer selection.
