Had a great experience here. I live in Napa and had to drive an hour away to get my SDI paperwork to fill it due to me having a Nevada license. Just an FYI, if you work in California and have another state license, you will have to pick your paperwork up from your nearest office. I got there actually late. Around 11:15 am and was out by 11:45am. Very quick service. Another fyi if you come and there are no seats available you still sign up and grab your number, but you'll have to wait downstairs in the lobby until wow the your number is called or there are seats available for you to sit upstairs. You'll have to keep on using the elevator to check periodically read more

I work for CPA office next door. This place is a mess and people are treated badly. The applicants sit on the floor or crowd our door so that we can't get in. The rest rooms are a disaster. There is not enough disabled parking so disabled tenants who work in the building often have no place to park. Sometimes the office closes early because they are so overwhelmed by applicants. This office needs to be moved to its own building. It is interfering with the small businesses in the building. read more

they do not ever have anyone working I've called everyday for two weeks and I've tried calling repeatedly begining at 7:30 am agin a 8 am and 11 am multiple times and starting at 1:30 pm 2 pm 2:30 pm the phone service will not let a caller even hold for a representitive. And I've sent multiple messages regarding needing to speak to a representative regarding a claim I have filed that still shows processing after 15 days this is a joke read more

Sign in and get a number ticket. Only 8 chairs in the small office with 3 windows. You'll have to wait outside of building until there's a chair free, so you'll have to come back up and check often. I took others advice & arrived 1 hour early. There was 15 people already in line. And bring a folding chair. We also took this advice & glad we did. You'll have enough time to put the chair back in your car before they let you in. They issue numbers while you're in line. Security guard was helpful leading the line to the elevators. The office is on the 3rd floor #325. Only claimants are aloud to sit in the chairs so if you bring a companion they may have to go back to their car. If the companion is like a interpter for the claimant they can stay. I was # 60 & the number on the board was #50. So it took about a hour for my turn. Plenty of parking read more

The security lady on the 3rd floor- room #325 has a bad attitude, she speaks to you in a condescending way (Shame on her) Come with a lot of patience because they are slow, They need more people working here that are helpful and informative because most people walk-in a little lost on how they run things here to get service. It's bad enough people are suffering with a disability- they make you suffer even more as you are trying to get answers in person. They need to get people in and out as fast as possible, some people come from far away- No one should have to wait all day to get answers. read more

They have a phone number but they will never return a call. It's nearly impossible to speak to a human and if it does happen, you will be disconnected. I tried reaching someone for 1.5 weeks straight then intermittently for a month. Was on hold for four hours once. If you go in in person the building is unmarked and people stand outside for 1.5 hours before the building opens. If you don't get there early enough you will not get a number. It's like the DMV. This is what our taxes get us. They deserve no stars. read more

After calling for days and constantly getting a busy signal I reluctantly went to this office. Office opens up at 8am. I went here at 7:30am and was the 10th person in line. The security guard opens the front door and you take the elevator to the 3rd floor. Walk over to Suite 325, take a number, sign in, and find an open seat. If you are here early enough you grab one of the 13 available seats and wait but if you get here late, you have to wait downstairs or in your car until your number is called. But you have to periodically go back up to check what number they are on. So if they call your number and you are not there, talk to the security guards who were very helpful and friendly and hopefully they will see you next. Not really organized so I highly recommend you get there at least 30-45 minutes early and if you can bring a small folding chair and a good book! When my number was called, I had Caucasian lady with shoulder length dirty blonde curly hair, found out her name is Liz, she wants you to write your social security number on a piece of paper and hold it up to the window and she'll look up your account for you. I could barely hear her because she did not turn on her microphone and she was not very helpful or friendly. I get it, she is probably overwhelmed and overworked. But it's her job to help and provide information to people! So good luck if you get her! My total wait time from the time I took a number until I was seen was 45 minutes. THIS REVIEW IS MAINLY FOR LIZ! You get 2 stars since you answered my question but your demeanor is less than 1. The security guards get 5 stars! You both need a raise! read more

Im not certain why there's NOT more outrage regarding there practices!!!! Waited 3 1/2 he's likely longer due to the fact that I was so worried I'd loose my place in line continuously going up to 3rd floor and back down to the parking lot so many times. -I was given impractical wait time by the security when he knows that daily, the wait times exceed 45 mins meanwhile he sat in the hallway w/ some female acquaintance telling you to wait downstairs cause apparently no loitering in the halls. --I was there til closing and after waiting alll that time the guy at the window took zero interest in me, what I had to say. He was dismissive, took my paperwork and walked away mid conversation. After tossing my paper to me, he informed it would take 10 days and walked away never to return. --These ppl are gargoyles. Negative 5 stars if it was an option! Trying to get ahold of a real person is a joke, not only is there automated system annoyingly long to listen through the options (most of which tell you to go back online) but not helpful in the least and hangs up on you if too many callers are active. Hey EDD what if our online account is f***ed up and we cant resolve it online, because we cant even log in! I have never claimed unemployment before and was furloughed in may for just two weeks. After submitting my claim, I received a notice that they needed to verify my identity. So I sent the necessary documentation in to prove my identity, and received my payment in July... However, I can not access my money or login to my online account because someone who verified my identity inputted my social wrong and everything you do regarding your account involves your social. After 3 months of calling to resolve this issue I finally got ahold of a live person for them to tell me they are not an account specialist and I will have to call back the following week when they are back. It has been two weeks of calling everyday and nothing but hang-ups from the automated system. Sharon Hilliard (Director of EDD) wake up and help citizens that have paid into their unemployment benefits. Covid-19 is not an excuse, 40 million Californians half of which have had needed EDD assistance during this pandemic and you have only 3,000 people answering phones. SHAME ON YOU. You are an essential business, open up some damn offices so people can go in and speak to real people. If target and starbucks can do it, so can you! I hope to god I never need EDD again, 5 months with no solution is ridiculous. read more

I'm writing this out of frustration and anger. People who have to claim disability in the first place should be greatly empathized, but the atmosphere and the workers here are hostile, condescending, and unhelpful. I'm not disabled, but my mother who passed recently was. I got a letter from EDD telling me to report her wages within 20 days. I don't know how much she's made; I would need to give her employer her death certificate to access that information, but death certificates take weeks to process so 20 days didn't seem like ample time. It's impossible to talk to someone on the phone through EDD, so I went to this office instead hoping that they'd give me an extension. The west African gentleman that I spoke with gave me information that was complete bullshit, and he didn't really care to hear about my situation in the first place. He told me instead of a death certificate, I could go to the hospital that she passed away at and ask someone to write a note that confirms that she's no longer with us (hospitals don't do that). He then told me to take it to some random address in Oakland which turned out to be the Alameda County Sheriff's Office (why? And how does that give me an extension?). I left annoyed that I spent hours waiting only to have someone trivialize what I'm going through, and spew misinformation to me. I eavesdropped on others who were there, and they also commented on the inconsistent information they were given by the workers here, so it's definitely not just me. read more

Never ever have I applied for state EDD benefits until now. Yep, SDI is an amazing maze. Online submission, problems accessing information, and a call in phone line is always full. Arrived at the office 10 minutes before opening and the security guard suggested I wait in there cafe till 8:00am. Right at 8:00am, she came to tell me the office was open. How thoughtful! Signed in and was assisted at the counter. Unable to provide me with any information, since the SDI system was down. The staff took my information and was told I'd receive a call. Tried again to access my account online and finally found the information. Two hours after my visit to the office, I received a call and was advised my benefits have been approved and a debit card with funds will arrive in a week. Amazed the system works with a bit of self diligence by my part. read more

After calling the 1800# for several weeks and still not being able to get through, a neighbor told me about the office in Oakland. I came here the next day walked right in and a gentleman name Johnathan assisted me and pushed everything through. I don't have a state drivers license, only out of state, so the website told me to pick up a form in the office or have one mailed to me. So, I went to pick up form for short term disability, that I've paid into for years, and there was a lady sitting outside and she said the office was closed and they don't have any more forms. I asked why they were closed and she said covid...: after the mask restriction has been lifted and vaccines have been given to adults, who are the ones applying for benefits. After every other business has been reopened, even the dmv. What are they even paying the security officers outside for?? To tell me they are closed?? What a waste of taxpayers money. Second of all either make the forms available for downloading online, or print some more forms.... for all the people who have still worked through the pandemic. I am a nurse and I've worked throughout the covid pandemic and had surgery and can't get get access to a form because the disability office still doesn't want to pay employees to open up. It really does mean a whole heckov'alot to actually talk to someone face to face about your disability claim rather than being shuffled around on the phone by an automated system. Although this office is an hour away from me, I would recommend making this trip because the workers here are extremely helpful. The office is in the big black building that you can see from the highway and there are a lot of parking. I'd say go early morning because ten minutes after I left I had to run back to get new forms and there had to be at least seven people waiting (I was there around 10am). read more

Never thought I'd be giving a state department a 5 start rating... Located off the 880, with plenty of parking, located on the 3rd floor. Quite small location but everything goes by quickly. There was 5 people ahead of me and two people working. They answered questions quickly and effectively while still being pleasant. I stopped getting paid because they had extended my maternity leave and calling and emailing was not getting me anywhere. Apparently missing my due date, but it was handled. I was in and out in under 15 mins and got paid from EDD the very next day. read more

Went to make what I thought would a quick drop off for someone. I Walk in and there is a rude renta-cop sitting in a corner who demanded that I sign in a take a number even though there was only one person besides me in the tiny waiting room. When the woman sitting at the desk (behind glass) was told to assist me, she told me to be seated in front of her glass wall and wait, yes, I said WAIT while she completes something far more important than my physical presence. After six minutes, the government employee told me that I could not drop off anything without the person's permission. For real??? Why? I'm NOT asking for protected info. I'm dropping off and requesting a damn timestamp. I told her to just give me the address and I will mail it certified return receipt from the post office. This review is for the in office experience. There was ample parking. I expected the office to be really crowded as it is absolutely impossible to contact EDD by the 800 phone number that sends you in automated loops with no option of speaking to a live person. The website is no more functional with no way to send an email question. Even the link to the survey about the usefulness of the website is broken. There was only one person ahead of me. The guy at the window seemed very over his job and was not a good listener. He kept repeating the same canned response without understanding the question. It was a live of experience of the automated phone loop. I asked for a supervisor and within 10 minutes a woman who knew her stuff effortlessly answered all of my questions. read more

It's really hard to speak when there's a glass between us and you can tell she's already annoyed . She wanted specific dates and pointing to the calendar like i have never seen one before. These greedy fuckers refused to cover my metastatic cancer husband's formula when he was relying on a feeding tube to keep his weight over 100 pounds at 6 feet of. This when we only had $20,000 per year in $100,000 city the fuckers cut us off and we wound up homeless. A senior with metastatic cancer. We now are back in our home and my husband is in remission but still cannot eat solid foods and that which does not go to rent goes all to him and his ongoing needs as a cancer survivor. Was in and out in 15 minutes. I suggest you go to this office if you are in need to find out answers to your questions. The toll free number sucks. I'm so happy I went to the Oakland office in person. The other Yelp reviews encouraged me to do so and it was indeed a painless experience. I had been trying for days to file my SDI claim on line with no success. An error message kept popping up that my info didn't match their records (from 1997 btw). Unable to get anyone live on the 800 number and frustrated by the thought of waiting 3-4 weeks for mailed forms to fill out, I determined a face-to-face attempt was the best option. I arrived at 8:12 a.m. And was out of there by 8:22. My date of birth had been incorrect in the EDD's system. They fixed it, apologized (unexpected) and with smiles handed me forms to complete with my doctor and gave thorough instructions. My advice: go in person and be kind and respectful to the state worker assisting you. They outwardly appreciate it. read more

For the Oakland office: 2 stars for wait time - got here 30 minutes before they opened and I was the first in line. It is hard to connect them, I've been tried so many time to call them but it doesn't go through. State Disability should have an e-mail direct so we can connect them. I'm so happy with the SPEEDY service I received today from the SDI office off Oakport. I arrived 5 mins before opening, I was told to take a seat and I would be helped at 8. I walked out the office at 8:03 !! And after reading all the reviews about Kimberly I'm glad to report she is just as awesome as everyone says! You go girl! A close friend had disability payments approved through December 27. On December 27 she received a letter dated December 19, the post office took a week to deliver. The letter instructed her to make an appointment with a doctor specialist. She calls the number that EDD provided, no answer, left a message. She discovered that her December 18 benefit payment was NOT made. There was no warning or notification. Called after a 30 minute wait, got a RUDE worker who says their field office would call her back Monday or Tuesday. New years eve?? No way anyone will call her then. They keep their contact phone numbers down to ONE phone number, the bureaucracy was crazy. What was worse was cutting her off as of December 3 and not being notified until December 27. Happy holidays from the California EDD, the heartless bastards. Is it any wonder how so many people end up homeless in California? Shameful. read more

My stepfather was so impressed with the level of service he received at this location, he is having me write a review for Mario Mejia. As everyone knows, it is virtually impossible to get through to the EDD on the phone. My stepdad visited this office and was assisted by Mario, who was extremely helpful. He even offered up his direct line in case my stepdad had any questions in the future. Given how many people EDD employees interact with on a daily basis, i dont blame them for sometimes being short and hurried, however Mario provided amazing customer service. read more
