I have to agree with the other review-unacceptable customer service, especially from people you trust to hold on to your money, which could potentially be your life savings.
I had an issue with an online company who is somewhat reputable, but there may have been a mistake in the transaction. Long story short, this company had sent me way more than I had ordered, on a $40 purchase I recieved over $750 worth of goods, and my account was charged accordingly. On my end I was very proactive of the issue and notified the company and bank of the mistake as soon as I noticed there was a problem. The company agreed to send me shipping lables to return the items I did not order, however, they never followed through on them Multiple times, the company sent me invalid shipping lables, and did not send them to me when they claimed to have. Furthermore, dealing with the disorganized company and waiting on hold for hours was wasting many of my hours, which are as a student are very valuable as I am stretched for time in my schedule as it is.
The bank instructed me to report the transaction as fraud at this point, because I was not able to send back these items I had not ordered. I was given the credit back to my account which was charged, which satisfied me for a minute, but then the credit was taken away from my account because "The card company claimed the company was in the right". During the fraud dispute, I provided details about how they had provided shipping lables that did not work on the products they sent out. They simply responded with one world replies like "we tried to send shipping lables and the reciever failed to send the items back", as if they did not read my complaint whatsoever. And for some reason, the company was awarded the victors of the fraud dispute. I asked the bankers how this could be, and told them that the funds should not have even been taken out of my account in the first place. They just simply replied that there was nothing they could do, and that I could get a lawyer and take it to court if I wanted to. Obviously this is not a big enough amount to do that over, and the bank very well knows that. After lawyer fees and time involved, the case would just result in a settlement and I would be wasting more time and money to only get a very small amount in return. Reselling the merchantdise is going to be the best option among many worse options at this point. It is a very big hit to my funds and savings and so the best I can do is warn others of my experience. Some banks will charge you to open an account with them, but the truth is, you get what you pay for. If you ever have a problem with fraud or have some dispute with a transaction, no matter what they tell you before you open an account, this bank will NOT be on your side. In this bank, big fish eats little fish. I personally would never consider opening a savings or retirement account with this company, because if something happenes without your consent in your checking account, they will go after your savings and probably charge for transfer rates and blame you for it all. I personally still hold an account with this bank because they have low fees, and while I am still in school, it is easy for my family to send funds to my checking account if I need it. However at this point I never leave money in this bank. I have overdraft protection on my account so that transactions will not be charged to my account, and never keep more than a hundred in my account because I know if something goes wrong with my account, the money is as good as gone. I have even has stupid little situations where a local bar would charge my card when I paid in cash for my tab (so I got double charged), and again there is just nothing you can do about this. So I would never leave money with this bank. If you want to open a savings or retirement account, just invest directly into an index fund, or work with a commercial bank that charges fees. With some digging you will be able to find banks with retirement plans that fit your needs, and with the more up-front customer service some banks provide, you wont have to worry about them being drained when you are not looking. Bank fees suck, but sometimes I guess you have to pay for honesty. The best solution; manage your own retirement funds. Second best (if your field of study is outside economics and your life has you focusing on other things); Trust a bank that have a reputation on the line. This bank has no rep, it is just simply the cheapest and again, you get what you pay for. If your life savings are valuable, you have to pay to protect them, there's no way around that or you will learn that the hard way. read more
