If we could give anything lower than one star, we would. While I do recognize that some of the delay has been a result of PG County's red tape, this replacement process shouldn't have taken NEARLY as long as it has, and the reason is Statewide.
We chose them to replace our septic system back in 6/2023. We had heard from others that the process of replacing a septic system in PG County could take a few months, and we had hoped to get started ASAP.
Despite communications with our realtor and Statewide, we did not receive the initial proposal for the septic until 12/2023. The proposal was signed early January, after which all funds were released from escrow--the escrow that was meant to cover ALL financial expenses related to the septic replacement--except for the amount due to Statewide. Throughout February, we tried to discover how to upload the proposal to the County for review. It was only at the end of February that we discovered the plans could only be uploaded by Statewide's staff, who confirmed that she would send them along to the County for approval once the drawings were complete.
9 months later (3/2024), we followed up with Statewide regarding progress, which our representative told us had been delayed due to a fire at the Statewide office (obviously not something within their control). When we finally got the drawings for the septic system, we were shocked to see that the plans sent to us were for a MUCH smaller septic system than in the proposal. Although we expressed concern to the company, our concerns were dismissed, and we were told to submit it anyway. Again, though, it turned out that only the representative at Statewide was able to upload the plans, which she told us she would do.
Throughout the month of May (11 months into the process), our Statewide representative (the only contact within the company we had) ghosted us. Despite MANY attempts to contact her, we heard nothing. We had to go so far as to search Yelp reviews and Facebook posts to find another person with whom to communicate. We emailed them, and again received no response from ANYONE within the company! It wasn't until June that we finally received any sort of recognition. They told us they would have to reach out to the county about the next steps.
After chasing answers from both Statewide and PG County, we heard back in late July that--as we suspected--the plans that had been uploaded were the incorrect size, and that the drawings would need to be redone. No further progress was made on our case until October, when we called Statewide to check the status of our septic replacement. I was disappointed to hear in our representative's voice that she was unconcerned with the lack of progress being made. She informed me that she had "just" spoken with the county about how a different permit application needed to be completed. She forwarded me the email sent to her by the county, which they had sent to her FOUR days prior, further supporting my impression that they did not care how this process may be negatively impacting us.
At this point, this type of oversight had cost us 16 months - and would now cost us another $520. Because these documents would now be submitted after the release of most of the escrow, it would have to come out of our own pockets. Had this been done in a timely manner, we would have been reimbursed the expense from the escrow account. Now, we would have to somehow budget an additional $520.
It's now 12/2024 (18 months after the start of this process), and in just the last few days, we have reiterated that we are unable to submit any forms, been given every excuse by Statewide about how they are not responsible for any of the delays that have happened, and been treated dismissively with many of our concerns we have expressed.
To say I am disappointed in the lack of professionalism, compassion, and basic human concern shown by Statewide would be an understatement. My only hope is that we can get this process done quickly so that we do not need to deal with these issues (on both the county and Statewide's sides) anymore. read more
