One thing I do like about small towns is the great comfort food available…read more Parking is available along Park. Those who are observant will also notice that the other side of the parking lot was the location of the first air mail flight in Manitoba (1927). Look for the stone mini-monument. The inside looks like most other small-town pubs, with the dated wood paneling. The bar itself is on a raised area at the back. There is a dance floor as well, but it seemed like nobody used it. There is an actual mini-liquor store in the very back, around the back of the bar counter. Good to know as the local MLCC (government liquor store) closes early most days. The other thing to mention is that this hotel also has a Chinese restaurant, accessed through a side door next to the bar counter. See my review of Lake View Restaurant. On Fridays and Saturdays, there is a steak night. Seriously, you have to hit this up. I had the 16oz T-bone. This dish comes with onion rings and coleslaw by default. You can pick between wedges and fries (I chose wedges). The steak is one of the better ones in recent memory. No gristle or tendons, and a very decent cut. Served with sauteed mushrooms on top. The bun was meh, and the onion rings and potato wedges were also nothing special. I enjoyed the coleslaw though. Really liked how they didn't drown the thing in dressing. 4 stars for the steak, and 3.5 stars after factoring in the sides.

My husband and I had the Friday night special that was the Mug, Spud and Steak. They cooked the steaks to perfection and were delicious! I had fries and corn as my sides, the fries were homemade and fantastic. My husband had the baked potato and corn. One thing we were disappointed by was that there were no fixings for the baked potato. We will for sure go back for that damn good steak for $14.99 despite the slow service. The only thing they need to work on is their servers but we were a large group and likely that was the issue. I should note that everyone that I talked with left very satisfied with their meals, and the plates I saw coming out all looked delicious. Price was reasonable and portions were perfect size.

+.5 for service…read more Grizzly Goose replaced the former Bellamy's location, which is famous for their chicken fingers. Fortunately, while Grizzly Goose has modernized the restaurant to attract a younger crowd, they did keep many of Bellamy's staples, the chicken fingers being one of them. The chicken fingers recipe was largely unchanged from when it was Bellamy's, so quality is consistent. Their soups, however, I found to be very salty. I've had their lemon chicken rice soup and their potato bacon soup, and in both instances I found their salt content to be very high, and I'm usually someone who can tolerate high salt in foods. It might be better to stick to their salads (Bellamy's had a greek salad that this place carried over; didn't try it though). Service was good here. Unfortunately it's likely not a place I'd add to my regulars list, but if I feel like chicken fingers I'd certainly still consider here.

We had their side Caesar salad and the dressing was very good, fresh grated parm and very crisp lettuce. The veggie burger was really fantastic - they didn't try to make it like meat, it was made with zucchini and carrot and a raspberry BBQ, it was really good. We upgraded the French fried to poutine and that was nice! We split all that between 2 people and it was all good and plenty of food.
