Verona is full of interesting statues but many of them are without captions and without explanation. I've been able to find some with research but this one took a question to the Verona tourist board who were very helpful.
The statue on Via Cappello represents Berto Barbarani (1872-1945), a famous poet who was born in Verona, spent his life here and later died in Verona. He wrote many poems in the Veronese dialect of Northern Italy.
The bronze statue was executed by Novello Finotti, an important contemporary sculptor from Verona. The work is located in the heart of the city centre from 2004, near piazza Erbe: the poet gazes upon the statue of Madonna Verona, the symbol of his beloved city. The sculpture is in good state of preservation and, due to its favourable location, undergoes greater attention than other statues.
