I grew up in Brooklyn surrounded by this style of deli and they are quickly becoming harder and harder to find, so I was happy to check it out. The exterior of the deli is a bit deceptive. From the outside it almost looks like it's a hole in the wall, but when you walk in you realize there is an entire dining area with plenty of tables and chairs to the right, with the deli counter on the left. Behind the counter is a large fridge unit with the bold logo of my favorite cold cut brand: Boar's Head (there's a sign in the window too). That is one surefire way to get my business. There were a couple customers ahead of me but boy, they move quick here! They were quickly taken care of and I put my order in: turkey and swiss with tomato and mayo on whole wheat bread. Yeah, it's not the most exciting sandwich in the world but it's one I enjoy. I also snagged a couple drinks from the drink fridge across from the counter. I took this order to go. About fifteen minutes later I was munching on the sandwich and it was perfect. It held together well (sandwich structural integrity is very important in my book) and everything tasted fresh. There was a good amount of meat and cheese and I appreciated that. I was very happy with my first experience at The Gourmet Deli and I look forward to going back!

Located on Alden Street in Cranford, this establishment has been serving the community since 1976, and my colleague and I have come as first-timers yesterday to The Gourmet Deli. They offer fresh mozzarella, homemade pasta, and sandwiches. Greeted by Dominick, the owner, we had the entire deli to ourselves, and our assorted sandwich platter and Greek Salad were ready for us. Their bread was fresh, the meat and cheese were superior quality and more than sufficient, and it was very tasty. As an added bonus, we got a sampling of his famous signature Angel Hair Garden Salad, which was to die for and alone was worth a trip, which we can recommend.

Had the chance to meet "The Boss" Gilda and her son Joe as well as the rest of the very friendly and helpful staff here. We tried a plethora of things so this may take a minute haha. Started off with two stuffed breads - A Reuben as well as a Pepperoni roll. The Reuben had a great flavor and the bread itself was tasty. It was slightly odd in my mind to eat a Reuben without grilled rye, but I enjoyed this. The pepperoni stuffed bread was also good and was even better with the addition of some sauce (they called it gravy and I thought I was in trouble haha). After that we were hit with some delicious Italian items including their house made meatballs, Italian sausage and peppers, and chicken Parmesan. The meatballs were just rated #1 in Central Jersey and #2 in the entire state of NJ at the Pizza Bowl a few months back. I could see why. Very tender, perfectly seasoned, and again that sauce/gravy was killer. To be honest though, I may have enjoyed the sausage even more! I mentioned how I didn't get hit with that typical overwhelming pop from fennel seed and Joe said they make it with ground fennel so the flavor is still there but it's not so in your face. I loved, and I mean loved, this sausage. The chicken parm was also very good but I had a small piece because I knew what was coming next! We finished off by trying two sandwiches that Iorio is well known for. The first was "The Jocelyn" which was a roast beef and Swiss melt on an onion roll, and the second was "The Sloppiest Joe" which was a North NJ staple "sloppy joe" but in epic proportions. The Jocelyn had good flavor and the onion roll was a nice touch and change of pace. The sloppiest Joe is sitting inside the top 3 I've had probably ever. The meats were freshly sliced and piled high, the rye was super fresh, and the Cole slaw had get flavor and added welcomed creaminess to the sandwich. As if there was any doubt at all - Iorio Deli in Roselle Park, NJ - Didn't Suck!
