As one who travels a LOT, I like Steak n Shake when I want a quick meal and to get out of the car for a bit. This one is located right off of Interstate 70, and is a good place for a pit stop when I want to grab a bite and stretch my legs a little bit. Unfortunately, this particular store isn't up to the standards of the others I've visited. Oh my where to begin. We stopped in at 1:30am, there were 3 groups of two at tables and eight "clean" tables open. All the other tables had plates and cups all over. Kitchen staff could be heard gossiping and the waitress was uncaring and seemed to have a complete disregard for the state of the restaurant. She did state that "It is a bit messy, I haven't gotten around to cleaning tables." While waiting to order went to use the bathroom.... Only to find it utterly disgusting. It hadn't been cleaned and the garbage was overflowing. Needless to say I skipped on using those facilities. Back at the table, I would say the service was quick and the quality of the food was as expected. Except the fries were cold and the coleslaw ordered was warm... As though both had been sitting out for awhile. The serving tray the waitress used was disgusting and seemed to have not been cleaned in quite sometime. The entire time we were there the staff had moments they could have been keeping up on dishes and service, but as stated before just didn't seem to care. We are glad we don't live here and will never have the opportunity to visit this Steak N' Shake again. We tend to enjoy this chain and this specific restaurant was a major disappointment. read more

Steak & shake has always been the pinnacle of my dining experience. My party of 6 arrived mid-day Sunday, during the weekend rush they quickly found us seats and took our orders. This is by far the dirtiest restaurant I've ever had the displeasure of dining in. The whole place has the ambiance of a bus station restroom, only with more fries on the floor and fingerprints on every flat surface. The bathroom itself was almost unusable. We were a group of ten and Haley was great as a server- we were impressed. Everyone got burgers and fries and were pleased with their meals. I got the apple harvest salad and didn't like it at all- it had not one Apple on it! And it wasn't a "lettuce blend" but big pieces of only iceberg lettuce and had some random red chips and cheese in it (maybe from my aunt's taco salad?) I shouldn't order salads at burger places but it looked good on the menu. So my food would be one star but the service was great and others liked their food. I love Steak n Shake, but this one is the worst by far. I attempted to use the drive thru tonight, only to find out there was maintenance, which I understand, that's fine. However, what's not fine is going inside a restaurant that is relatively full of customers, and being told that the 24 hour restaurant is closed, with no explanation. Also, on multiple occasions, the wait time at this location is ridiculously long, like 30 minutes or more to get just a table, then another hour to get your food! I don't usually complain, but maybe it's time to restructure how this location is run. read more

Would have given it less than one star. Pulled up in the drive thru, and were told "We are currently short of staff with only two of us in here and will fix your order as soon as we can." We said that was completely fine as it is entirely understandable, however, it was our misunderstanding that they were trying to tell us they couldn't physically take our order at the moment. So we proceeded to try and order accidentally not knowing they didn't want us to yet, and we got yelled at by not one but BOTH servers very aggressively in a manner that was rude and disrespectful to any customer. I have worked in food service for over 7 years now and completely sympathize with stressful situations like being under staffed, but have never treated someone so indecently and so belittling. It's the only place in Greenfield that's open 24 hours. I've been coming for months trtying to get a Nutella shake but their milkshake machines were down EVERY.SINGLE.TIME. Their fries are a toss up sometimes very rarely they are the best fries other times and more often they're CRAP. If this wasn't the only 24 hour place here id definitely take my business elsewhere. read more

Terrible customer service and communication skills and they do not use curbside pickup properly. I called the number to let them know I was there, and they told me to come inside to get it. Weird, but I did it anyways and waited for 20-30 mins near their online order pick up area. This whole-time other customers came in for online orders and the staff approached them to ask if they had an online order yet they never approached me. Eventually I spoke up and complained and they proceeded to blame it on me because I did not go up to the counter. But I did not know I had to go up to the counter since I have never ordered through their app and I chose curbside pickup, not regular pick up AND I called to tell them I was there for my curbside order. I assumed they would have utilized the giant red box on the counter that was labeled for online order pick up that I was waiting near the whole time. The food was cold, and we were missing most of our dipping sauces as well. Would NOT recommend dining here! read more

First off, this is probably one of the worst restaurants I have ever been to. They are chronically slow, "oops we forgot to put your order in" attitude, and it doesn't matter how many people aren't there. They have a reputation for being the slowest around. I'm talking like 45 minutes to get your food. And the kicker-a pubic hair was found in one of my friends' cheese dip. Yes a real one, yes we are sure. When the manager was confronted, she had a "ha ha, no you didn't" attitude, and basically just blew it off. This is the worst Steak 'n Shake I've been to. They had a sign on the door that said they were short-staffed so expect a 30-minute wait, and we were in no hurry so decided to go in. While there seemed to be only one wait-person, there were 4 or 5 people behind the counter, and we were one of 3 tables of customers (a group of 4 and another of 2). They already had their food, so we were the only pending order until a family came In behind us and got a take-out order. The wait for our food was shorter than expected, but everything we got was cold. The shoestring fires that are so tasty when hot and fresh? They are terrible when old and cold. The floor was filthy, several empty tables were unwashed - I assume because of just the one server but it seems that some of the extra bodies behind the counter could have helped with the cleaning. read more

Amanda is the best server I have ever had in my entire life. The entire cast of "Beauty and the Beast" came in at approximately 10:55. So since I don't like or want any of their other sides I got the Dbl Cheeseburger ONLY & it only .31cents less w/o getting a side that they didn't have available. Am I being fair rating this place since I didn't eat or drink anything here? After watching what my friends went through might justify this review. Where to begin? We arrive around midnight and there are probably 15 people standing in the doorway waiting to be seated. There are three servers standing up at the service station appearing to be gossiping. Most of the restaurant tables are empty but people can't be seated at them because they're filthy! We're finally seated by the shift manager who wiped the table down herself. Um, about 20 minutes later our server finally takes the drink orders. Almost gave up on getting them but they did show eventually. The shakes DID take about 30 min to get to the table. (As mentioned in a different review) Only 3 were ordered. One appears to have been acceptable, one root beer float seemed to be lacking in the actual root beer. Third and last, my goodness! Basic chocolate shake, 1) with whipped cream was still an inch from the rim so they send it back for a more appropriate amount for the price charged and 2) when it is returned it has a "disgusting" taste. Needless to say, take it off the bill, she's done. The food...We saw it sitting in the window...for...um, the fries were cold by the time it got here. Shall I go on? OH! Almost forgot! Well, I reviewed this particular Steak N Shake not too long ago and gave it 3 stars. Not sure whats happened recently, but I felt like I had to revise my review. My wife and I got cold food here a few weeks ago. Okay, sometimes it happens. Went again-even worse. Completely old, cold, nasty food. So bad my wife actually called and complained. They said they would replace the order, which they did- with more cold stuff!! The worst part was we waited over 20 minutes! And still cold. It was so bad it was almost funny. Let me start by saying that I LOVE Steak N Shake food. With that said, it is hit or miss if your order will be correct. This doesn't apply to just drive through. It has gotten to the point where not only did I contact their corporate office about it, I also actively avoid eating there as much as possible. We usually don't have too bad of an experience at this restaurant, but tonight's experience was just sad! We entered the restaurant and stood there waiting to be seated as the sign asked! We stood there, no one even acknowledged us. We even saw the manager come out of the back with a few workers. He looked directly at us and went in a different direction! A server came up, but it was like she changed her mind from going a different direction and figured she'd better seat us, but seemed almost irritated we were taking her away from doing something else. We immediately noticed the temperature in the place was so cold, I was shaking, most of the servers had on sweaters or sweatshirts! We got our food. My husband ordered extra meat when he ordered his chili, we didn't feel like he got it but he said it was more spicier than usual.
