My girls & I popped into Steak 'n Shake in Midland, TX on January 4, 2026. Me: "Are you guys offering the Patriot Shake?" Host Kendra: "Yeah... What kind do you want?" Me thinking she was talking about the ice cream flavor which is normal. "One chocolate, one vanilla." Received receipt. The Patriot Shake (a January 2026 promo commemorating America's 250th independence anniversary for $2.50) is not on there, but instead regular charges for the shakes were. I already paid. No screen to see my charges was available so I assumed everything was peachy. I soon confronted Kendra about it and told her I thought they offered the Patriot. "Oh, no sorry." I thought, then wtf did you reply yes when I asked? Then she told me "no refunds." Lol. This place is dingy and the service is just okay. The Sprite from the self-serve fountains tasted like watered down sparkling water. So gross! Best thing was the beef tallow fries, although they were a tad overcooked. Craving a real steak burger so I stopped in at Steak n Shake since you can't find another steak burger joint in Odessa nor Midland and I must say this transaction went fairly well. I went through the drive thru and was immediately greeted. With about 3 cars ahead of me I thought this is going to take a while however it only took half the time to my surprise. The order was made precise and accurate. The steak burger tasted fresh and very succulent, paired well with their xtra thin fries. The shakes here are usually one the best around, I normally bash this place due to my previous experience and it not being like the sit down and order Steak n Shake found nationwide,however getting some taste of it in the Permian Basin and quality of service from this visit is changing my perception of this place. I run by and try to get food about once a year from here these days. I've never had really any service ever. I did eat some pretty good burgers shortly after they opened, but it's gone down hill fast since. They do have a drive through line but I guess it's just there for looks. If you get tired and pull up to the window, they typically walk around the corner and hide until you leave. This has happened about 5 times in a row now. (I wanted to rate this Steak & Shake 3.5/5 but Yelp doesn't let you do half stars on your own.) If you like Steak & Shake you'll be a bit disappointed to find out this one has a slimmed down menu but it still tastes just as good. If you've never had Steak & Shake, it's pretty much my favorite chain burger place. Quality ingredients, good size patties and the fries and chicken strips also taste great. Just know that this one is in a highway truck stop / general store so it is a bit messy in the eating area but if you get it to go you'll get all that Steak & Shake goodness without any issue. My double cheeseburger was perfect, and the garlic fries were also, as well as the strawberry shake.!!! I wish they had these in the Flying J's or Pilot truck stops.!!! The burgers are good but they are tiny so if your normally can eat a large burger then one of those burgers ain't gonna fill you up. However their fries are tasty, and the shakes are yummy. Soooo this Steak n shake finally opened in Midland. I must say I am a huge fan of this place thanks to my wonderful husband. So I was very excited to walk thru the doors. There was only one customer ahead of us the girl was friendly took our order and before she was done the order was ready fresh and hot and yes it tasted great .The manager even came around and greeted us . Ordered Signature Steak n Fries for $8.49 w/large fries n large drink. I was charged $9.79 plus .49 with .69 tax. Overall total came out to $11.97 which makes no sense to me reading from the menu. It says a drink is $1.99 but my receipt doesn't have that price anywhere. It should say $8.49 plus $1.99, plus however much it costs to upgrade to large. Nowhere on the menu does it have a price for a drink upgrade, just a price for upgraded fries, if you want specialty fries. Steak 'n Shake just opened on 1788 so I had to try it. It was pretty good. Burgers are juicy and tasty. Fries are the thin, shoestring kind but not too thin. Add some ketchup and they are just fine. I have not tried breakfast yet but I am going to. Workers were friendly and I got my food through the drive-thru with just a little wait. The only thing I am disappointed in is that it only has a limited menu. A very limited menu, it is not a full service place like others. There are only 4 options for lunch, 3 different burgers and a hot dog, plus fries. It has the classic and specialty milkshakes and soda. There are 3 options for breakfast. So that is the only thing I am sad about because I was looking forward to trying more of the food.
