Very disappointing. I ordered an original double in the drive-through and received the single. There is more beef in my earwax than what was on that burger. So I entered the drive-through a second time and ordered the double Frisco with onions and cheese only. It was missing onions and had some kind of salad dressing on it. I guess steak 'n Shake has their own definition of "only" and doesn't know what an onion is. There is a nearby Burger King and Arby's I will be patronizing in the future. read more

Used to come here all the time before covid lockdowns, and loved it. This was my first trip since they reopened after remodeling. The dining room atmosphere is kind of small and depressing now. You have to order on kiosks, which isn't bad, but it feels like I'm at a Sheetz. It also bums me out because they had some really nice wait staff before everything happened. Particularly the woman that normally worked overnights when they were open 24hrs. Anyway, we ordered and got our drinks from the new fountain machine they installed. We ordered food to go, so we sat and waited patiently and waited for our order number to be called. We soon noticed that people were being served that arrived after we did. After about 20-25 minutes, the woman at the counter asked if we were waiting on an order. She asked for our number and went to check the kitchen. She came back and told us that they had no record of our order in the system. So she had the kitchen fill the order on the fly. It had been 35 minutes by the time we got our food. It was a nice night so we decided just to eat out at some picnic tables in the parking lot. We went through our bag and noticed that our burgers weren't exactly wrapped very well, but it happens when you're in a hurry i suppose. Then i noticed that they messed up our order as far as toppings on a couple of the burgers, but i didn't want to wait any longer for them to make a new burger so i just took off what i didn't want and ate it. The patties tasted overcooked & dry. I took one home for my dad, and he said the same thing. Atleast the fries were on par except they got rid of their awesome seasoning that they used to have on each table. In all, food was okay at best. I'll go back in hopes that this was just a one time incident, and that the food quality hasn't gone downhill since these big changes were made. It also sucks they aren't open 24 hours anymore, but it is what it is i guess. read more

This is my first time at Steak & Shake. I don't know how long this restaurant has been here, but it looks new and well cared for. The atmosphere is nice and everything is clean (yay clean!). The service was prompt and attentive. Our server was friendly and the food made it out of the kitchen in a respectable amount of time. Food quality was to be expected. This is a fast food joint on the side of I-70 amongst a sea of other fast food chains. The milkshakes were awesome, although a bit rich. Maybe I'm crazy for thinking a milkshake is too rich... I loved eating Steak n Shake when i lived in Pittsburgh. I hadnt had it in a while so i stopped yeaterday after work around 6 pm. It took nearly 20 minutes for my drive through order of just one burger and fries to get mass when i was the first person in the drive thru line. 30 minutes after eating i started to get terrible stomach cramps and started feeling like i might throw up and was burping up nastyness that tasted like the burger. When i got home i just kept feeling worse so i took pepto bismal and went to bed around 730-8 pm. I kept waking up through out the night from the stomach pains and cramps. When i got up at 330 am for work i was still feeling terrribly sick. I ended up throwing up a little, which surprise, surprise, parts of the burger and its toppings came up. 13 hours later after eating there i am still having cramps and other intestinal problems associated with digesting bad food. I will never eat at another restaurant in the St. Clairsville, Ohio area and probably wont ever be able to look at a steak n shake without getting queezy. Thanks for serving me dirty or spoiled food. Shakes - Great! A+++ love milkshakes... I'm not a milkshake snob. Food - C-. I ordered a chipotle chicken sandwhich (or as the server stated, chipolte), which was ok but the meat was tough so it would tear along the grain of the meat and I was taking huge chunks of meat out of the sandwhich with each bite. The fries are also way to thin and overcooked. Server - D. My colleague and I both ordered water, and the cups we got were tiny and they were never refilled. The service was really good. We had a nice server and he always had a smile on his face. I can't quite remember his name, or i would tell you! Milkshakes, sooo good. Creamy, without being too thick. I was at a table of 10, and our orders came out pretty fast. Even the bathrooms are nice. They actually have a wall between the stalls instead of a piece of plastic hanging there. The only thing i thought was weird, is that they didn't have steak (i had never been to this chain before). But I'd definitely go there again! read more

The line was very long which I understand during the Covid. Issues. I ordered a very simple meal that I was told came with no condiments. I only ask for two condiments mayonnaise and mustard. The only condiment that came on the sandwich was catch-up which was never mentioned. In addition the food was very cold. I understand Covid issues I deal with it every single day but if I have a restaurant where food is my specialty I'll serve a reasonable sandwich with the requested by the customer. read more

I'm admittedly not a Steak 'n Shake super fan. I like it every once in awhile, when I'm craving a big ol greasy burger. Tonight was one of those nights! I went through the drive through and ordered the Garlic Double combo. S'nS drive through is never the quickest but I know that and don't expect it to be when I stop by. The garlic burger was just what I wanted.. extra greasy & very good! A girl at work highly recommended the burger & I'm a sucker for anything garlic so I couldn't pass up the recommendation. I loved the garlic sauce on the burger & the next time I have a hankerin' for something greasy & garlicky that I can feel clogging my arteries as soon as it hits my mouth, I'll be back for this bad boy; my next visit probably won't be very soon, my arteries need time to recoup after all. read more

To say this was the worst service I have ever received would be an understatement. We ordered milkshakes along with food so everything started out fine, we got our waters and began waiting for milkshakes. So after about an hour of waiting I began to become annoyed, ESPECIALLY since we didn't even get our milkshakes yet. Our server (Hannah), comes back after almost an hour & a half and says our order was "bumped" which it was not SHE FORGOT TO PUT IT IN. At this point I exploded, I've waited all day after working to deal with someone who is not only inconsiderate enough to forget order to be put in, but also she DID NOT EVEN BRING MILKSHAKES. We've enjoyed Steak and Shake in Centerville, Ohio for a number of years. We moved east and have missed it. Last weekend we made a trip back to Ohio and on the way back east Sunday evening, we stopped at Steak and Shake in Saint Clairsville, Ohio. Even though I ordered my burger with everything EXCEPT pickles, my burger came tore up and simply laid between two buns. It literally looked like it had been dropped and tossed back onto the plate. Rather than take my burger back and do it as ordered, the waitress brought me a plate of what she must have wanted because it wasn't the condiments I requested and had pickles on the plate! Both my husband and I ordered milk shakes. He ordered a basic chocolate shake. What he received was a milkshake full of cookies. Hmmm. Monday I was extremely sick to my stomach ~ throwing up several times. Directly related to this restaurant? Not sure, but we won't be stopping by anytime soon. read more

Went for a late dinner - waited over 50 minutes for hot dogs ...waitress was good but poor management led to an overwhelmed kitchen staff in a barely full restaurant not getting ANY food out in under 45-50 minutes. Have never walked in a restaraunt and stood at the counter for over 5 minutes with 2 workers standing there completely ignoring me then yelled for someone to help me which took another 5 minutes. Food was good but beyond that our visit was not the best. There was an employee argument that broke out with no attempt at hiding it that made everyone in the restaurant uncomfortable. After eating we decided to go through the drive through for shakes, we ended up the 3rd car in line with another behind us, trapped, for nearly half an hour waiting in the drive through. To me these things are easily avoidable and inexcusable. There are plenty of excellent options for sit down or fast food in the immediate area so it might be best to steer clear of this train wreck. read more

I picked my wife up from work at 7:15 PM and drove five minutes to the St. Clairsville, Ohio location. We were the only car in line for the drive thru. I ordered two meals and two large unsweetened iced teas--both with lemon and one with four Equals. The lady at the window gave us the iced teas and straws but didn't offer to tell me which had the Equal in it. I asked and she said that the second one she gave me had the sweetener. My wife tasted hers and said that it was very sweet. We traded and she said the other tasted very sweet as well. I knocked on the service window and told the lady that she'd given us sweet tea. She took the iced tea and disappeared. Six minutes later, a young man opened the window and asked which drinks we were supposed to have. I repeated it to him and he disappeared for good. Minutes later, I'd knocked on the window a couple of times and four cars were behind us waiting rather impatiently. Finally an older man I took to be a manager passed the window. He looked my was but didn't open the window, the original lady did. Our food, by this time had been sitting under a heater for some time. I asked for my money back, explaining that it had been twenty minutes since I placed my order. The window closed and I could see that the manager didn't look very happy but directed the lady to open the register to return my money. He opened the window and tried to hand me two drinks, saying that our food would be free. I told him that I didn't want the free food, just a refund and that I'd never be back and I intend to keep it that way. That one location made a number of customers unhappy this evening (the two of us and those folks who waited and waited behind us) but it will never have the opportunity to treat us that way again. In the area which I reside there are only two 24 hour dining options within 30 miles - Denny's and Steak and Shake. After a solid night of bar drinking, steak and shake provides a sufficient meal to end the night. The shakes are always cold and the steakburgers come in many flavors.
