We were in town for a wedding staying at a local hotel and wanted to eat at a local diner, found this one it was close and had good ratings. It's in a cute little downtown. Easy to get to and find. Parking is on the street out front. Pretty easy. Menu is breakfast, lunch and dinner. Usual diner fare for all 3. We got the breakfast wrap which is eggs, choice of meat and veggies and cheese. You can pick the veggies. I got all the veggies. And a side of home fries. My partner got the big breakfast BLT with home fries. It took a bit so it's made to order. When it arrived it was hot off the grill. The wrap was grilled and it was melty and good. The home fries were chunky and crispy. Good!! Our server was very nice and attentive. No complaints. The be place is small but it can fit about 45 people. Menu variety is good. Prices aren't bad at all. If in the area it's definitely worth a try. read more

We stayed the night in St. Clairsville and found this quaint diner downtown. This was the small town experience I craved. We had a great breakfast for a very reasonable price. The ambiance was perfect. Most everyone knew each other in the diner and were incredibly friendly. The service was outstanding. My ham and cheese omelette was great but the crispy home fries stole the show. My partner had eggs and bacon which were perfectly cooked and delicious. Where to begin? The ambiance is awesome. You get the diner vibe, with very cool mid-century designs on the table tops, your choice of booths or tables and a cool old-school tin ceiling. Large windows let you see outside. Even though only one server was working, you can tell she was a pro. There were several tables occupied in the diner yet none of us waited for anything. Drinks were refilled promptly. Food came out quickly. And she was super friendly. Was a really great experience. She kept checking in to make sure everything was ok. As for the food... 5-star hands down. Look at my salad... in most chain places you'd get an iceberg salad for $5 or more. This elegant lettuce leaf salad with cheese, tomatoes, fresh cucumbers was less than $4! Then the cheeseburger was out of this world. Better than I'd make at home. Fresh meat, hand pressed into a huge patty that was so juicy. Made exactly how you want. Fresh bun. Hand cut fries were delicious as well. My family and I decided to try out this restaurant for the first time and what ended up for the last time. Our experience started with the waitress asking what we wanted to drink she brought the drinks and no silverware to stir my coffee. I had to go to the counter and get my own silverware. Finally she took our order and time kept passing I finally got another cup of coffee, after more than an hour had passed I was starting to get a little upset because of such a long wait and I said something to the waitress and she laughed and after even more time passed then a large group of customers that came in well after us received their order. The waitress finally came to the table and apologized for losing our order for four people. I asked to speak to the manager and they didn't get her so I waited till I think that I got to talk to the manager. Her response to my complaint was that I don't say anything to the waitresses when this kind of service happens. I work with the public and I am a manager myself I couldn't believe the answer I received , This is a customer experience that I would never let happen at the business I work for, we actually care about our customers experience. I wouldn't recommend eating at this restaurant to anyone. read more

Found this diner on a the way back to Illinois from Pennsylvania. We like to try and eat at local places instead of the chain restaurants ..... we were traveling in a group of 4 Jeeps (plus a truck) pulling campers and I called ahead to make sure we could get there ok and they could seat our group......the girl that answered the phone was very friendly and helpful ....... the food was great and the service was awesome. This place has good inexpensive food. The service is very fast, and the environment is very clean. One of the best restaurants in the area. Stopped in for breakfast and had a good meal. I had biscuits and gravy and my wife had a waffle, home fries, and sausage links. We each had a coffee and she had orange juice. The biscuits and gravy was good but could have used a little more salt. However, with the addition of hot sauce (Frank's RedHot) they satisfied. The waffle was one of the fluffiest waffles I have ever eaten. The home fries were great, sliced not cubed, and perfectly fried. The sausage was standard breakfast links and good. Coffee was free refills and we were never left waiting. Service was friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome. The total for our meal for two including tip was less than $20. We were looking for some quaint local fare on trip through the area and Newtown Diner did not disappoint. Homemade chips were great, sandwiches were fresh, and the service was kind and helpful. Our five year old had some fun and we had a nice break as he played at the provided small table in the corner for kids his size that had a box of age appropriate toys. We are a family of five and we fit but a party any larger might challenge the size of this cozy storefront. OK diner food. Nothing special worth going off the beaten path for. It is, however, a short, convenient trip off of I-70. On street parking at meter. Only about 10-12 tables. Two people (one server, one cook) in there for breakfast. Heard her tell someone else they only staff two people until 11am. Needless to say service was slow as a result and there weren't too many people ahead of us. About and hour and 10 min for three for breakfast. So definitely not a place if you are in a hurry. I'm an avid yelper and was really disappointed that this place received 5 stars from everyone. My experience was not a good one. I went at noon on a Tuesday. The place was full (which there is only ten tables in the whole place) and two waitresses were working. One was very smiley and happy and the other was very docile. I received the latter. Got my first drink, drank it, then waited over ten minutes to receive my second. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger and fries. The bacon was burned to a crisp and the burger was over-cooked (they never asked me to specify how I liked my burgers cooked). The fries are very greasy and my stomach is still turning an hour later. Upon finishing my meal I had to wait on Eeyore the docile waitress another 25 minutes to get my check. Wouldn't recommend this place and will not return. read more

Once a year, two or three of my friends drive out from Philadelphia, PA to Dayton, Ohio to attend a convention there. Leaving Philly at 7AM puts us at the Ohio border right around lunchtime. We found the Newellston Diner quite by accident while searching a place to eat. The place looked retro, and we decided to give it a try. That was quite a few years ago and we still stop there for lunch today. The food is excellent, the homemade fries and chips are insane. Sitting in the diner with the tin ceilings and retro décor, I imagine myself back in the " good 'ol days". Amazingly, although we only stop in once a year in May, the owner/server remembers us from the previous year. "Hey, you're the guys from Philly, aren't you?" Yup, that's us.
