It's odd that this is billed as a Somali restaurant because the menu has dishes from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. It's a little pricey for what I got, though the the food was pretty good and the service was very pleasant. I would try them again, but this 1st experience did not wow me. read more

We got our food to-go, so we can't speak too much about the quality of service, but the food was excellent. I couldn't decide between the tikka masala and curry chicken, so I did half orders of each. They give you so much food that I got four meals out of my order (definitely giving you your money's worth). My husband got two meals out of his food. They also came with a pastry that was delicious as well. The food was beautifully seasoned and aromatic. The owner warned that the tikka masala was spicy, so I was expecting it to be a lot hotter, but it only had a little bit of heat (but I can see how it wouldn't work for someone with zero spice tolerance). This was our first time even having Somalian food and it was amazing! Super friendly guy working here and very helpful in showing us how to order here. We came in and walked to the back where there were hot plates of different dishes to choose from. They serve the food in generous (so perfect for a large lunch/dinner or just a takehome of leftovers!) portions on a large plates and you pay AFTER you've eaten. I kind of like that concept. This place is smaller and very clean and the food was phenomenal. Wish we had something like this in our town, but we will certainly be coming back on our future Grand Forks trips! read more

I was looking forward to dining at Steers. I arrived and their dining room was closed. A minor inconvenience but no biggie. I asked if they have a menu so the server went to kitchen to ask. He came back and said I have to go online to view the menu. Minor inconvenience #2. Once I decided on a meal, the server took it to the kitchen. The server came back and said I have to order it online. That was the final straw for me. You either want my business or not. I wasn't going to keep jumping through hoops so I decided to go somewhere else. I'll give them another try sometime down the road and hopefully it's a better experience. read more

I ate here last summer it was fantastic. Very fresh and flavorful Somali food. Very comparable in on par, quality wise with the dozen or so places I've eaten at in the Twin Cities. I ate lunch here this week and it seems the menu has changed to more of a middle eastern style food. The menu seemed confused and clunky. It seems the new menu is not sure what it wants to be. I really wanted to like this, and I've heard so many good things about it, but it was almost as though I ate at a different restaurant than the people who liked it. When I went, you could order chicken or goat, on bread or not on bread, and it comes with rice on a disposable plate. There was no flavor at all. It was very bland. I love Indian food, Moroccan food, and Ethiopian food, and I was expecting big flavors with interesting sauces, and this is not it. Furthermore, they ignored all of my orders and instead brought two of everything my husband ordered, assuming that he was ordering for me. I would think you could bring kids. read more

Husband and I went here today. The food was soooo good! We were greeted by the staff. The place is very clean and smelled great. I am not sure if it's the norm but today was buffet only. First we were shown every item in the warmers then started choosing our items. There wern't any signs to tell us where to start but the staff walked us through it. My favorite was the potato vegetable dish. My husband loved the lamb. The rice was great. Actually we loved every bite. My plate was about 12 dollars and his was 16 (lamb). The plates were about a foot square. The plates were heaping full. So full. Great food. read more

Three coworkers recommended Steers, so we gave them a try. Ordering was difficult, since no menu is posted. We ordered a Special platter and tried our luck. Pretty disappointed in this place. Was really looking forward to eating here, especially given the decent reviews. So we drove over here with 3 kids in tow and it wasn't open. Of course I thought it was my mistake so I checked yelp for hours and looked at the building. Nope, it wasn't me, definitely during hours listed but there was no one around. We did happen to drive by here after eating elsewhere and it looked like someone was just getting there... at least an hour after we had been there. read more

We visit Grand Forks several times a year and we always make it a point to eat at Steers. We love letting the kitchen make us a large family platter that has rice and a couple chicken dishes, salad, sometimes fish, sometimes lamb ... whatever the kitchen throws on there. Did a take out for lunch. Tikki Marsala, extra spicy. Pleasant guy on other end asked if I wanted a full order or the smaller lunch sized. I ordered the lunch size and Wowzers it was HUGE! Was delicious, the rice was perfect and the spicy chicken had a pleasing bite back to it. Very creamy tender sauce. No way would I ever be able to eat it all in one sitting, and I like to eat! Been to a few places in Fargo for Tikki M and paid like $15 bucks for what I got for $9. This place is amazing, clean and staff were super inviting. We just went in for the first time. First the service was so nice and helpful on explaining the items on the menu. The tea was amazing! Don't leave without trying it. The food was equally as good. The guys who work here have some things to learn about service, but the food wasn't bad. I want Steers to succeed since Grand Forks is sorely in need of something aside from pizza and burgers. It was immediately apparent that our server wan't experienced. Expect a bit of a language and cultural barrier. My party felt like we had to go through half the menu before we found something we wanted to eat that wasn't out of stock. I ended up having some of the beef samosas and fried tilapia. Went here with a couple of coworkers on a weeknight, first time any of us tried Somalian food (didn't realize that was Middle Eastern). Food wasn't bad, but the descriptions on the menu weren't very helpful. The server was very friendly, he explained the different menu items to us and let us try the mango juice for free (it was not fresh). The tea they served was amazing (very sweet, good for dessert). For dinner, we ordered the samosas and the chicken, rice, and salad entree. Next time we will ask for some spicy sauce! read more

What a dissapointment, I used to live in GF and visited steers when it was first open and loved it, authenthic Somali restaurant with good taste, excellent portions size and delicious, then they change it to some what Buffet type which was still good. Now I think they are confused what to do, they are no longer authenthic Somali as ther menue is completely change!!! there best Items were the goat with rice, lamb wiht rice and chicken drumsticks with rice not on menue any more... order 10 dollar gyro sandwich was tastless, over price, ask for sauce and they dont have any hot sauce?? kidding me and gyro on Pitta serve with plain rice,!!! who do that.... read more

Just had a great meal here. Pleasant and clean environment. We were greeted right away and got drinks quickly. The tea is awesome but very sweet. The beef samosas were great. They said if you call ahead, you can get veggie ones. We both had lamb with rice and salad and it was delicious and a big serving. The lamb was really tender and flavorful. Good food and excellent service - just the kind of variety and novelty that Grand Forks dining needs. We went for dinner and the meat samosas served before our entree were fresh, light, and well seasoned. Didn't have a chance to try the vegetable samosas, but certainly will next visit. The lamb, rice, and salad entree was more than ample, and the meat was extraordinarily succulent. The chicken version of the same entree was a little dry but also well seasoned. Both were served with an excellent, savory, and very spicy hot sauce (on the side). At $11, dinner was reasonably priced. The restaurant also serves lunch and breakfast, and while there was plenty to choose from, our waiter mentioned that the menu would be expanding. This is a welcome addition to an area with relatively few good, interesting independently owned restaurants. read more
