Just celebrated my 60th birthday with my beautiful wife and my Dad at Darcy's for breakfast! It was the BEST home cooked meal I have had since Mom passed and no other birthday meal would have done! At Darcy's cafe before 11AM on a Sunday. Lady was quick to ask if we wanted a seat. We said yes. She told us it would be a 35 minute wait, even for the counter seats. :( At least they call you when a table is ready. That's why we saw so many folks just sitting and waiting in the car for their table to be ready. Husband felt this place was bit sketchy from the outside and inside. No call yet after 50 minutes. While in town checking out UND law school we came here after many recommendations. Seating is tight but the food is amazing! We ordered the chicken fried steak breakfast, biscuits and gravy and corn beef hash. The biscuits and gravy were amazing. I really enjoyed these and will be back for them. The chicken fried steak was equally delicious and would order that again for sure. I am not a fan of corn beef hash but my husband and daughter love it. They both said this was one of the best they have had. Service was amazing. We will definitely come back here when we are back in 3 weeks moving her in. read more

I really enjoyed the breakfast but area is really small but overall the food and service was good. I will say this is a true greasy spoon. The whole restaurant could use a coat of paint and some degreaser. The bathroom is old and gross. Again if they would do a lot of deep cleaning the place would be fine. read more

We came here on a Sunday and they told us about a half hour wait but honestly we waited 10-15 minutes. It's a hole in a wall type of place and a staple in Grand Forks. They're known for the cinnamon roll pancakes! My fiancé and I were greeted quickly! We got the number 1 with upgrade of the cinnamon roll pancakes and it was worth the wait! We honestly finished everything on our plate. Everything was savory and delicious! Patrons know to not loiter after you're done since there's not much seating area. I flew into Grand Forks from TX for some training about an hour west. It was 1130 and we all decided we wanted sone breakfast. I found this little spot and we proceeded to head that way. Upon seeing the cafe a few of the guys were skeptical because of the outside. They were even more skeptical once we went in to sit, very limited space, a few tables and a counter with small seats, and a very enthusiastic lady that was seating everyone. Very friendly and polite and she made us feel at home. I ordered the Dave's Special Hash browns or American fries topped with sausage, bacon, ham, onions, mixed peppers, cheese, and two eggs; served with toast or pancakes, I had over medium eggs, hash-browns hard and white toast. The food was excellent. One co-worker ordered the #6 which is an 8 oz. top sirloin, two eggs, hash browns or American fries, and toast or pancakes with hash-browns he loved it, one guy ordered the Piggy Burger Smoked ham, bacon, smoked cheddar cheese, and BBQ sauce, minus the bbq sauce and I am not sure what the other two ordered, however they cleaned their plates. Unfortunately. The last 3 times I have been there for breakfast i have been dissapointed with the food. I have had the Daves special. Omelets and biscuit with gravy. The biscuits with gravy were particularly bad. very salty and bad tasting gravy. Coffee tastes bland like drinking colored water. The place is always crowded with uncomfortable seating if you are not lucky enough to get a seat at a booth. Sadly overrated. read more

I really enjoyed my omelette with the hot sauce they offer. It was cozy breakfast food great for a weekend morning. Conveniently attached to a Barber Shop and featuring a sign that reads "Better than your Grandma's, as good as your Mom's" it was around 10:30am that Darcy's Café was found mostly full, a collection of construction works having recently bellied up to the bar flirting with two waitresses who did their best to be pleasant while at the same time taking orders, clearing tables, settling tabs and serving Food. At one time a gas station but later converted into an eatery by Darcy Fonder, her retirement seeing the space suited for at-most forty sold to a former North Dakota Fighting Sioux, guests entering she shabby building will quickly notice just five tables and three booths surrounding the center island, a first come-first served policy often leading to long lines even when the weather turns frigid and in particular on weekends. Featuring a two-sided laminated menu plus several specials, a 6am opening Monday through Friday with slightly later Weekend hours making Darcy's the top spot in Grand Forks for all-day Breakfast, it was passing over Soup and humongous Sandwiches that eyes focused squarely on Pancakes, the bottomless 99cent Coffee as good as the $2.49 stuff in Cafes elsewhere and always piping hot. No doubt a meeting place for locals, persons of all ages engaged in conversations of varying volume, it was less than ten minutes after placing an order that two items arrived simultaneously, three fluffy Flapjacks upgraded with gooey Frosting and lots of Cinnamon far better than their $6.58 pricetag would indicate while Bread Pudding baked in a Coffee Mug was unfortunately a touch dry at the bottom even though the top half was buttery, rich and full of plump Raisins. read more

A very (and I mean VERY) small local establishment. However, if you have the time and flexibility to wait... the food is INCREDIBLE! The Cinnamon roll pancakes are worth the wait. (See picture). The coffee cups are huge (see picture). The wait staff was very friendly and helpful and service was quick. They don't want you to linger after eating (because they need to free up tables for the waiting customers). There is not a waiting area (they ask you to wait in your car or outside). I wouldn't recommend taking a large group. We were a party of 3 and it was the perfect breakfast/lunch spot. read more

I decided to go with the breakfast #2, which includes German sausage, kraut, onions, two eggs, hash browns or American fries and toast or pancakes. I personally didn't get the kraut or fries, instead went with the house potatoes which were delicious. The place, thanks to its GREAT food, my favorites are pacakes,sunnyside eggs, sausage smothered in syrup,and service is always, on it's game under the owner, Michelle's watchful eye. The only negative thing I can think of is that there may be a wait during peak hours to get in. OMG, what great food and outstanding service. The folks there are friendly and patient while I decided on what to order. The hamburgers I saw being served to other customers looked huge and delicious, definitely not anything close to the typical, skimpy, fast food burgers. I ordered an omelet with hash browns and the cinnamon pancakes which were prepared and cooked to perfection. The omelet was filled with fresh ingredients and the pancakes were so light and scrumptious. Highly recommend Darcy's! They open at 6 so I can understand why they close at 2pm. read more
