Some of the delicious things to buy!
    Kay O.

Honestly walking in, it was a bit of a shock for me, but overwhelming in a curious way..... I wasn't too sure what this store was selling, but I wanted to find out! The was an outgoing older gentleman that could perfectly say each chocolate with the proper accents in which the chocolates derived from. There was a a FREE chocolate sampling and great history regarding the origins of the chocolate, as well as pairings! I wish we had more time to try everything, but sadly our car was on a parking meter and it was on the other side of town. So I quickly brought a couple bars for my Dad, since he loves dark chocolate and big-heavy cabs! Hee I'll definitely be back for more!

Ricky and the Steinhouse team are fantastic! We had a chocolate tasting and really enjoyed both the chocolate and the staff! The chocolate was authentic Belgium chocolate and transported me back to walking around the chocolate shops in Bruges. This is a definite must go in Santa Rosa!

This is now the 2nd time at Eric's shop he always is friendly and gives out the best samples!

Wow, this place is a gem! Eric is a wonderful host and owner of this small business and gave us delicious samples of chocolate, chocolate barbecue sauce, and balsamic vinegars! Everything was so wonderful. He had some Dubai chocolate too if you're looking! Will definitely be back soon.

Calling this place charming feels too... weak. It's like American Pickers opened a chocolate store as a side hustle and found the most engaging shop owner one could find. Saw on the website Eric's nickname is "Muscles from Brussels" which is just the cherry on top. Everything inside is for sale! Lots of vintage license plates, steins, Harley Davidson items, Coca Cola memorabilia, and other super cool items. As for chocolate, the selection is sure to please. Organic chocolate, vegan chocolate, biscoff cookie chocolate, Côte d'Or chocolate in various flavors, tequila brittle, Chardonnay brittle, truffles labeled with what wine they pair best with, fudge sauce, and more that I've already forgotten. I had a few samples and I also bought a few bars. Basically, if you're craving chocolate, need a gift, or enjoy having authentic experiences and want to support local - go to Steinhouse Chocolates. Bodacious, that's the better word for this place.

The owner is so lively and welcoming, he gave us a lot of samples and it was all good. There is a lot of chocolate variety with a side of conversation with the owner.

It reminded me of an apple pie through and through! I wish the apples had a little more bite to them though because it was hard to get a clean bite. It imparted a nice fragrance with no bitter notes. We also shared a canelé which featured that delectable caramel crust with the perfect custardy center, it's so hard to make and yet Sarmentine just kept them coming! The only part of our meal that was a bit meh were the drinks. My mocha was certain milk forward which probably ended up masking the espresso and chocolate. The matcha latte boyfriend had was generous on matcha powder but it didn't quite have the same body as others tried lately. Still, when you're on your way to the vineyards from Santa Rosa, this is a great little stop to pick up some food to go!

Inside, the booths are comfortable and one wall is papered in whimsical butterflies. We have always been treated like royalty by the staff. There was a new item on the appetizer menu. Artichokes. Not like any other artichoke you've ever had. It was an artichoke heart served on the stalk in a bowl of broth. That's a keeper! Both the chicken and steak au frites were just right. We decided to forego sweet desserts and went with the cheese board instead. Good choice. Three cheeses with honey, jam, nuts, and crackers. And then the espresso martini. What makes this martini superior is that they use brewed espresso, rather than a packaged mix. Yes, you can tell! Augie's is open for lunch and dinner with a newly opened Happy Hour.

There is a good variety of food with the stars I think being their escargot (the garlic butter being the best). Lots of little touches of snail decor around the restaurant is really cute. I've had their ahi Niçoise salad and it is excellent. The potatoes and ahi were a surprisingly good combo for me. Oysters are a refreshing appetizer but I recommend the frog legs (tastes almost like a very lightly fried thinner chicken wing). I often paired it with a side of mushrooms. My family has gotten a variety of their menu. Onion soup is good and ahi tartare is great to share and munch. Warmed baguette bread and butter are always available. They have such good appetizers I think they even beat out the entrees. But I can say their steak and poulet/chicken frites are not bad too. I'm very glad they can do substitutions for the frites with roasted vegetables and got my poulet with green beans instead which still were a good pairing for the meat. Desserts are great too to share and finish your meal. Creme brûlée is standard in a lot of places and theirs hits the mark but I love Augie's Crepe Suzette more! A tangy orange based crepe topped with vanilla ice cream with bits of crispy orange bits throughout. I hope I come back again to try more dishes. A lovely spot in downtown. Reservations are easily made online too.

Parking can be challenging but you will find a spot if you don't mind walking. It was fun to stroll down the blocks and see the various shops and restaurants along the way. I almost missed the tea shop! It is a tiny storefront next to an art gallery and I entered the gallery by mistake. The shop itself is tiny but organized. The lady working there told us that we could smell the teas as there were little jars above each package of tea. She explained how the teas were organized by herbal, black, green, and a few white teas. The loose teas are already packaged and ready for purchase. They come in 50 gram size (little less than 2 ounces). The majority were blends with the ingredients and price listed on the front of each package. They sell individual tea samplers too if you want to just try a cup. They offer a really nice variety. There are lots of cute gift items and chocolates too. While we were there, several groups of people came in to buy and quickly left. They must know which flavors they like. A darling place to visit with friends and family.

My absolute favorite is the Dang Dazy milk chocolate--its velvety texture paired with crunchy almond and hazelnut bits creates the perfect balance. The Earl Grey dark chocolate was also incredibly good. While the richness of the dark chocolate leans slightly dominant, you can still catch those subtle, fragrant notes of Earl Grey in each bite. At around $3 per bonbon, it's definitely on the pricier side--but considering the quality, creativity, and variety of flavors, I think it's completely justified. It's especially heartbreaking to share that this is widely considered one of the best artisan chocolate shops in California, and they're now closing their only store in Yountville due to slow business and rising costs. Earth & Sky Chocolates is actually in one of the converted train cars. They don't have a hanging sign, just one posted on the nearby pillar, so it's not immediately obvious which car they're in. If you're coming from the "front" of the station (where the depot is), it'll be the last car on the left. This is actually their second location, with their main shop in downtown Napa. They also have a website where you can purchase VEGAN and non-vegan boxes or even subscribe to a monthly box. Calistoga Depot is a recently opened market(?) along their main street (Lincoln Ave) repurposing the second-oldest train depot and train station in California. All the train cars had their interiors redone and are so worth the visit, every one of them seems to have a unique aesthetic. Be aware that each car is an individual shop. We had thought that everything was closed because of the tinted windows, not-quite-open businesses in some cars, and very few people at the time. But Earth & Sky Chocolates WAS open, and we got some great treats from there. Bonbons, brittles, little caramels, and (most importantly) HANDMADE MARSHMALLOWS! My friends and I each tried a passionfruit mango caramel and were shocked at how much it REALLY tasted like passionfruit, which made the caramel very light. Main thing for me is that this was all very pricey. Definitely more of a special occasion kind of thing. But with the local Calistoga Depot Distillery next door and the wineries down the street, they're also a convenient stop if you're looking to do wine-chocolate tastings.
