I'll give downtown Blue Ridge a five out of five. We rented a cabin about 10 minutes away from…read moredowntown. When we arrived downtown, we saw parking on both sides of the street (if you don't get designated parking in downtown, you'll have to wind up paying to park). There were cute restaurants, boutiques, and shops lining the streets. Everything from a bear store (literally, it had toy bears lol), to cute coffee shops and ice cream shops, to restaurants (they had everything from pizza to perogies). They also had a bunch of t-shirt shops, ladies clothing shops, to toy stores for the kiddos. Downtown, you'll also notice a train (where you can take either a 2 hour or 4 hour ride....in the nicer weather months and during higher peak times like spring break, I'd recommend purchasing your tickets online, as they sell out regularly). The downtown area is walkable, but there is a bit of a hill, so beware for those that may have mobility issues. This is def worth a trip if you're staying the area, get out stretch your legs, and shop locally. Also, be on the lookout for their free range roosters and chickens that you'll hear regularly downtown and you'll be able to figure out why the chicken did cross the road.

When I brought some friends up here I had a hard time finding the area where all the shops and…read morerestaurants were located. It doesn't have a name but all the store and restaurants are all grouped together on the main street....I actually just typed in Blue Ridge Olive Oil Company because I know last time I was here I came specifically to that store and I know there are other places in the area... Since there isn't technically a "downtown" at least that's what one local person told me. I suggest if you're coming here you just type in E Main Street Blue Ridge, GA 30513 into your GPS or https://goo.gl/maps/avJ8TnjH1nxxtAtk6 You can also type in Blue Ridge Scenic Railway which is also in the same area... https://g.page/blueridgescenicrailway?share The area has at least 3 dozen or more fun and unique shops and there are lots of free and paid parking...most of the parking places I saw charged $5 and you have to bring cash.... The olive oil store is great, make sure to sample the expresso balsamic it's yummy and taste so good over vanilla ice cream. Southern Charm restaurant is clean, food is fresh and yummy. Make sure to get the mozzarella bites. Get the full order, they are that good. If you want some fresh amazing poke bowls you have to try Poke Jon's. We enjoyed this place so much. We had fresh tuna, spicy shrimp and spicy crab. They have perfect Yelp reviews for a reason. I look forward to our next visit. Spring is so beautiful here.

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall

The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall

We had the opportunity to see the beautiful traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall when it visited Blue…read moreRidge, GA from Oct.3-7-2019. The wall itself is a 3/5 scale of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington DC, it stands six feet tall at the center and covers almost 300 feet from end to end. The wall like the one in D.C has exactly 58,272 names on it. The Vietnam conflict (it was never declared a war by Congress) lasted from about 1955-1975. As many of us know the conflict divided the country deeply and when the soldiers came back from the war they came back not as honored heros of a grateful nation; Instead their presence was greeted with scorn, anger and some soldiers were reportedly spit on and called baby killers. To add insult to injuries there were no such thing as wounded warrior projects or PTSD or any problems to help them get reacquainted back into society. As a result many committed suicide, turned to alcohol and drug-use. Most that served in the war that are still alive are all in their 70's, 80's and 90's and beyond. Many of them never talk about their time there and this memorial is a loving tribute to their friends, colleagues, and brothers who made the ultimate sacrifice. My friend came looking for his captain and his sergeant. His captain John M. Harrington was on panel 10E and line 118. A West Point graduate he along with SP4 Manzie Glover Jr. were assigned to Headquarters & Headquarters Company (HHC), 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry, 196th Infantry Brigade. On September 19, 1966, they were occupying a night position about 5 1/2 miles from Tay Ninh City when a friendly forces artillery round fell short and landed nearby. Both suffered fatal injuries in the incident. Sixteen other soldiers were injured, three seriously. His Sergeant Joseph R. Martinez was only 23 when he was KIA in Feb. 1967. From what I understand he left behind a wife and two young children. When we were there there were people from all generations there some bringing framed photos and flowers of their loved ones. The wall was made possible by the Fannin County Veterans and the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church who generously donated parts of their land for the display and allowed visitors to park in their church parking lot. You can check their website to see where they are going to be next http://www.travelingwall.us/schedule_of_appearances.htm and if you are looking for information on someone that maybe listed on the wall-you can look here https://www.vvmf.org/Wall-of-Faces/ As someone said they didn't die alone...we remember them!

I have a very restricted diet due to allergens and almost never eat out because of it but our servers, Tony and Josiah, completely changed that for me. They went above and beyond to make sure everything was safe, thoughtful, and still absolutely delicious. That level of care and attention meant more than I can put into words. The steak was, without a doubt, the best I've ever had. And the olive oil... I genuinely wanted to buy a bottle and take it home it was THAT good. Tony and Josiah didn't just provide great service they made the entire night feel easy, special, and memorable for everyone at the table. We felt genuinely taken care of from start to finish. Thank you for making a celebration like this possible for someone who usually has to sit those experiences out. We'll absolutely be back!! This place was one for the books !! :,)

The restaurant is…read moresmall but it has a nice modern, upscale atmosphere; due to the size I'd recommend a reservation on weekend nights. Service was very good and our waiter kept us well attended. The starter of Italian bread and olive oil was fresh and very welcomed as we'd had a light lunch. Perusing the menu, the tagliatelle with wild boar sounded tempting, but when I heard the night's special of cavatelli bolognese I had to try it (the waiter added his approval). It was excellent, with the pasta cooked al dente and a nice, flavorful bolognese sauce; the portion was just right. My wife wasn't terribly hungry so she had a salad as an entree and really enjoyed it. She also tried the espresso martini and it was good though not memorable. Many of the menu prices were closer to what you'd find in a larger city but so was the quality of the food and experience. We will definitely have Ferraro's on our short list of restaurants for our next visit to Blue Ridge...definitely recommended.
