Megaformer at Stellar Bodies the Works location
    Gloria S.

I recently joined Stellar bodies (about 2 months) at their new location at the Works (1235 Chattahoochee Avenue Northwest suite 160). I had the pleasure of having Kathryn (IG: kathrynann_np) as my instructor. She is amazing! The instructor you sign up with matters because when you are new to pilates on the megaformer machine, it takes a bit to understand the instructions and keep up due to the pace of the class. Kathryn does a great job because she models the positions AND keeps the pacing thereby meeting the needs of all levels. Not every trainer everyone does this. Each instructor has their own style. With Kathryn, it will not matter if you have been at this for 2 years or 2 days, her classes allow for all participants to experience the class and be able to feel (and eventually see) the difference in their bodies because they are doing the positions on the reformer correctly.

I've been coming to Stellar Bodies for 2.5 years now and it never fails to kick my butt. It's the only workout studio that never gets boring and never gets easier -- there's modifications for newbies and challenges for veterans. Plus the entire staff & owner are the nicest and most personable people I've ever met. You will never find a better fitness studio than Stellar Bodies!

What is megaformer? If you have tried pilates reformer, just imagine it is triple times harder. If you haven't try reformer before, its a system of springs and pulleys which use your own body way for the workout. You can call it a miracle machine or torture device depend which way you look at it. I have been to Stellars twice, I had reformer classes before and thought I should be able to handle megaformer. Boy, was I wrong, I almost passed out the first time I tried. It is very intensive and require strength and energy, not the type of exercise for anyone. I went today again after 1 full month of hard core barre classes, surprisingly I felt a little stronger on the machine this time, but the class was still very tough. My full body was sore after the class, I can feel it working on my muscle. I believe its very effective training if I want to see quick result.

    Megaformer... New machines!

I've since moved out of the area, but was back in town scoping neighborhoods for when I return to ATL. I decided to stop at the Blast Buckhead location for old time's sake. Unfortunately, my experience didn't live up to my memories. The class that I attended was a 5 min block class which I never cared for in the past and didn't care for this time bc there's not enough time to work up a good sweat at each station before transitioning since the clock keeps running during transitions. This location also has zero COVID safety protocols: because of the constant switching, there is no time to wipe off the shared equipment and wipes aren't even provided on the floor. My biggest gripe, though, was the instructor and his music. I enjoy boutique fitness classes and the playlists usually get me pumped for a great workout. This instructor played LOTS of pop and rock and a handful of 80s/90s R&B songs. By the time there were 20 mins left in the class I hadn't heard a single hip hop song so I asked if he would mind playing some. His response? "Umm... we have to play stuff for everybody." I responded "yes I know. I just haven't heard any [hip hop] so that's why I asked." His response rly annoyed me. I am not a fitness class newbie. OBVIOUSLY most instructors play a variety of music for "everybody" but completely excluding one genre of music doesn't seem like you're playing music for "everybody." Am I not a part of that number? Also, I've been to countless studios-- OTF, Solid Core, Barry's-- and the instructors there ALWAYS welcome requests from participants bc we are the ones working out! I don't plan on joining when I move back. Ugh what a bummer.

I arrived a few minutes early for my first class and was warmly greeted by the front desk. She checked me in and gave me a tour of the space. The restrooms and shower area was fully stocked with goodies in case you left something at home. Good to note if you are headed to work after a workout. I dropped my keys into a locker and waited for class to begin. The instructor, Denae, called me into class a little early and showed me the equipment and treadmills and how everything would flow during the workout. These treadmills go up to 30 incline, woah! Cold water bottles and towels are provided too, so amazing! Class began and we warmed up. I was already breaking a sweat and feeling good when the first block began. The class is broken into smaller blocks of floor and cardio work. After the intervals on the treadmill, it was time to swap to the floor. A super intense workout with long and short resistance bands were killer. I needed to change my band for a 'beginner' band, which the instructor noticed and assisted me so I didn't have to move from my station- Thank you! Fast forward 60 minutes and we were finished, cooling down with some stretches and lite ab work. I left feeling awesome, it was a great experience.

Joining Life Time has been one of the best decisions our family has made…read more Like many busy professionals, I had built a great home gym over the years. What I didn't realize I was missing was the energy that comes from being surrounded by people pursuing health, wellness, growth, and recovery. What sets Life Time apart is that it isn't just a gym. It's an ecosystem built around helping people become the healthiest version of themselves. One day I may run laps on the indoor track. Another day I may focus on strength training, core work, boxing, stretching, or recovery. There are machines and training areas for every fitness level and every goal imaginable. Treadmills, weights, functional fitness spaces, recovery tools, massage chairs, stretching equipment, steam rooms, hot tubs, infrared saunas, traditional saunas, cold recovery spaces, and more. And yes, there are televisions everywhere filled with sports. Lots and lots of sports. The atmosphere is contagious. You are surrounded by people investing in themselves, challenging themselves, and pursuing healthier lives. One of the lessons I recently wrote about in my article Dynamic Stretch + Recovery is that growth doesn't happen during the workout alone. Growth happens in the recovery. Muscles strengthen when they are challenged and then given time to rebuild. The same is true in life. The best leaders understand this. The healthiest people understand this. Strong performance requires intentional recovery. Life Time has reminded me of that truth. For me, the traditional sauna has become a favorite place to reflect, pray, recover, and simply be still. It is often in those quiet moments that I find clarity, gratitude, and perspective. What has surprised me most is how much our entire family loves it. My daughter is having a blast with the pools, water slides, and activities. The outdoor beach club atmosphere, music, and weekend events make it feel more like a resort than a gym. My husband has found a place to exercise, stay active, and invest in his health as well. We joined thinking we were purchasing a fitness membership. What we found was community, family experiences, wellness, recovery, inspiration, and joy. In a world that constantly tells us to do more, Life Time reminds us that our health, our families, and our well-being are worth investing in too. Grateful we made the decision.

It took probably 45 minutes for anybody to do anything which again didn't help me very much. I went into the sauna and it's similarly filthy. By looking through the spaces between the cedar planks you can see Band-Aids and other crap there. Just really dirty for something we pay so much for. There is also no direct way to contact corporate about this. The offer was to talk locally to the concierge but I guess that's really the problem isn't it. What we talking locally do if this is how they maintain the club anyway. It's just terrible that I have to do this every time you know every other month it's this way.

Serious Safety & Liability Concerns - This Gym Puts Members at Risk…read more This gym is playing fast and loose with member safety, and it needs to be called out. The sauna has a clearly posted warning sign stating a maximum safe temperature of 185°F. Despite this, staff and management insist on running it at 200°F, knowingly exceeding their own posted safety limits. That alone is reckless and a massive liability issue. What made this worse: I entered the sauna first at a safe temperature. Another gym member then came in and turned the temperature up to 197°F, completely ignoring the warning sign. When I pointed out the posted safety limit, this individual became aggressive, threatened me, harassed me, and disturbed my peace while I was simply trying to protect my health. No member should feel unsafe--physically or verbally--while using a wellness facility. Management's response? Dismissive and unconcerned. Instead of addressing: * the unsafe temperature settings * the violation of posted safety guidelines * the harassment and threatening behavior by another member ...the manager failed to take the situation seriously at all. This gym is exposing itself to serious liability by: * Ignoring its own safety warnings * Allowing saunas to operate at dangerous temperatures * Failing to intervene when a member is threatened Saunas are supposed to support health--not endanger it. Until management starts prioritizing member safety, accountability, and basic respect, I strongly do not recommend this gym. Consider this a warning.
