Some have great knowledge bases and answer questions on eye care with in depth, accurate, and actionable advice. Dr. Glasser is both, and arguably the best at both "sides of the coin" of any optometrist I've visited in my life. Importantly, Dr. Glasser and his entire staff are efficient and pleasant. I have no issues with the quality of the examination or my in-person interactions with Dr. Glasser (several appointments over many years). My issue is the way I was treated on my last visit by his assistant after it became apparent to her that I would not be buying frames or lenses from the practice. Her attitude immediately changed when I asked for a prescription. She stood up, went to ring up my copayment, and when she returned with the prescription she remained standing and was abrupt with me when I asked her to explain the change in my prescription, which was in a format I was not familiar with based on what I received in prior visits. I'm an educated person who wants to know how things work and what numbers actually mean, not merely to be told that "any qualified optician will understand" the prescription. I was made to feel stupid and like I was an imposition so I left and fed the prescription into ChatGPT which politely explained it to me, including how a progressive prescription can be translated into single vision distance and reading prescriptions, and what the numbers mean. AI was more polite and patient with me than the assistant. Despite having no issues with the doctor himself, I will not be returning to this practice in the future. The barriers between patients and medical information are evaporating due to AI. Doctors would be well advised to ensure that they and their staffs at least match the courtesy of ChatGPT. Update: In response to Dr. Glasser's comment, all I can say is that it would have taken his assistant less than a minute to sit down and politely explain to me the meaning of the numbers. Regardless of whether I'm dealing with an optometrist or a cardiologist, I take it upon myself to gain a thorough understanding of my heath, which is what ChatGPT provided and the assistant did not. Stay away. He made stupid jokes ("Do you drive? Well, don't drive in my neighborhood!") although I see well enough to drive (within the legal limit). Generally made me feel bad about myself. In the end, I paid $270 for an eye exam (twice what nearby places are charging) and the prescription was incorrect. I went to a cheaper nearby place and got the correct prescription, but it cost me several weeks of eyeglasses that give me headaches and dizziness. read more

I went to this location because I was in the area. I wanted to purchase another pair of Cartier's frames but before I could ask did they carry that brand I was asked did I have an appointment. When I responded no I was told how to arrange one. Never again. Dr Glasser and his staff are wonderful, and I wish I had seen him sooner. He was kind, personable, and also knowledgeable. His staff was also very patient with me as my eyes are difficult to work with with the Optomap and "puff of air" machines. When picking out lenses, his staff (Michelle?) picked out several pairs that I was interested in, and there was no judgement that my choice was "out of style" as there has been at other offices. Phenomenal work from the entire team at Glasser's office during my first visit just last week. I was able to book an appointment while my wife scheduled hers over the phone. It was quick and easy, and they worked with our insurance. When I arrived, Monica was very friendly and welcoming and helped me get all checked in. It was a super simple process - I just needed to fill out part of a form like most new patients. The first part of the appointment had me do various tests to see how my eyes are working. I really appreciated how even though the technology was old school compared to my last eye exam, you can still see its effectiveness. When Dr. Glasser came into the room, he was able to quickly and easily work with my eyes in order to figure out why my vision can sometimes be blurry or out of focus. Dr. Glasser's explanations were clear and made a lot of sense. You can really tell that he is a true professional and loves what he does. Visited during covid I have been wearing glasses since middle school... so I had plenty of optometrist visits.. he was very informative and performed some test that I never had done previously! That being said, w insurance, my annual visits are usually covered completely by insurance but My visit w dr glasses I had to pay about $50 for my visit.. that caught me by surprise but I think it's worth it. read more

My youngest got some kind of stye in his eye / and it was making him really uncomfortable / so I found Dr. Glasser. I had my first visit with Dr. Glasser and his team last week, and the experience could not have been better. The reception staff was terrific, the whole team was friendly, checking in was easy, and the waiting area was quite pleasant. The office also practices stringent social distancing protocols. Juan and Dr. Glasser explained in detail everything they were doing and the reasons for it. The doctor also explained the test results in detail. Dr. Glasser also paid a lot of attention to my description of my work and sleep habits, which helped in making his diagnosis. He was also incredibly personable and funny and stressed that if I needed anything I should not hesitate to be in touch. I needed a new prescription, and Juan expertly fitted both my current frames and a new set. In addition to their friendliness and professionalism, the office is also incredibly efficient. I wish I had found Dr. Glasser years ago to oversee my continuing OrthoK treatment. I learned more in one eye appointment than I have in over 25 years of annual lens fittings! No eye doctor has bothered to explain what they are seeing when they look at my retinal images or provide advice in how to keep my OrthoK lenses fitting comfortably for longer. I had only ever been to the eye doctor at Walmart or Costco prior to seeing Dr. Glasser and I was blown away by his expertise. He said I had a problem with my depth perception which I wasn't aware of prior but made sense with my vision problems that I had just been dealing with for years. The new glasses lenses he prescribed me (with prism lenses) have helped me so much with driving and focusing on a computer screen. Dr. Glasser is outstanding! My eyes have been quite fickle over the years. For a couple of years, my left eye wouldn't change and my right would fluctuate. Recently, with the heavy burden of a law student, my left eye has been playing catch-up. Unfortunately, the many optometrists I've visited over the years have never done a satisfactory job to combat this situation. My eyes would feel so dry and tired after wearing my contacts for just 8 hours. I went to Dr. Glasser's office because of the wonderful reviews and the coincidence that he shares a last name with one of my best friends. I couldn't be happier about the result. My vision with my new prescription is crystal clear when I am wearing my glasses and my contact-wear is less strenuous. My glasses came in a week after I placed the order. Refused to give me a 1.5 year expiration on my contact lens prescription. Even lied and said that the FDA requires a 1-year expiration. It seems the FTC (not a health regulator) enforces a _minimum_ 1-year expiration to protect consumers. I just wanted a 6 month extension so that I can use my vision benefits effectively. On the plus side, Dr. Glasser is better than the other OD I saw in DC. And he seems to enjoy skiing, which is nice. Maybe some day competition will force OD's to treat consumers well. read more

Best optometrist I've seen in years of dealing with eyesight issues. Not only was there practically no waiting time, Dr. Glasser was warm, friendly very informative and extremely thorough, ; He asked good questions, clearly follows the latest advances in the technology and research in eye health and treatment, and recognizes the benefits and limitations of digital diagnostic devices. For example, the last place I went for contacts measured my eyes using digital devices, and though they double-checked all the results, I wasn't happy with the resulting contacts. They were comfortable, but never properly focused. Dr. Glasser explained Why this was happening, fitted me with new lenses after examination, and instructed me to return the following week in case "tweaks" to the prescription were needed to make sure I received the absolute best results possible; he said its rare that the first contact fitting is correct, as your eyes adjust to the new lenses, even the chemical composition of your tears changes, effecting the fit and focus! No one had explained this before, or taken this care. As long as Dr. Glasser is in business, I will be recommending his practice and going back to him. read more

I went to Dr. Glasser once, over a year ago. I tried him because he was closer than my prior eye doc. But Glasser did not listen well and ended up giving me a prescription that did not work well. I went back and still no luck. So I went back to my former eye doctor and all is well. It wasn't a match for me, no big deal. Glasser was nice and professional. So why the one star review? Ever since I saw Glasser those two times, I have been getting incessant automated spam by text and email and phone. His office has not responded to my requests to stop. Be warned! Great office. Doctor had great patient etiquette and was thoroughly informative of my current glasses and his test and explanations of what is needed to make my new pair more efficient for my eyes. Office staff was great as well and very nice having prompt service. Hours are extremely limited compared to some competitors. Open one Saturday per month, but that said Saturday cannot be used as a pick-up day for your eyewear, so just be aware if you are someone that works a "standard" 9-5 or so. Glasses came in like 3 business days which was much, much quicker than originally estimated 7-10 days. read more

I received a routine eye exam (with the addition of an optional Optomap retinal scan evaluation at an added price) and contact lens fitting from Dr. Glasser, an in-network VSP Advantage Plan provider. He and Keisha, throughout the whole process, explained to me each step of the evaluation process very clearly and concisely. In addition to regular eye tests, by specialty of Dr. Glasser, he also conducted a couple extra tests to check whether or not I had eye strain and even asked me about how I work with my laptop, presumably to evaluate the ergonomics of my working condition. I learned a lot of neat little facts about the eye. I even learned (as he checked the shape of my eye) that I have a sort of astigmatism where the warping cancels out, eliminating the possibility of using hard contact lenses. Unfortunate, but cool! I visited initially with the intention to see whether or not I'm an Ortho-K or CRT (corneal refractive therapy) (those overnight contact lenses that correct your vision for the following day) candidate at the recommendation of Dr. Weiss (a reputable optometrist whose office is in Rosslyn). But my myopia was a bit too bad to be a candidate (-5 diopters). I have VSP Advantage Plan and paid $180 for the eye exam, retinal scan, and contact lenses fitting, which sent me home with 5 pairs of dailies and solution, and that apparently covers the follow-up appointments too. Not bad at all! It was easy to make an appointment, the receptionists and assistants were helpful, and they even gave me a case to take my glasses home in. I sent out a tweet asking for eye doc recommendations who accept VSP and got a glowing rec from one of my friends for Dr. Glasser. Farragut North is a bit out of my way for a doc considering I live and work in Maryland but I really did want to go see a private doctor rather than at a place like ForEyes or MyEyeDoctor. It had been years since I had a proper eye exam (or eye doc coverage) so I wanted to to really wanted to do this right. Well, I was not disappointed. Dr. Glasser was accepting new patients and offered Saturday appointments (well, just 1 Saturday a month) but it worked for me! Before my appointment, I filled in the online form which saved time from having to do it by hand on my actual exam day. His staff are very friendly and attentive. They were with me each step of the day- from the retinal scan (do this instead of the drops!), to helping pick out new frames to making sure my insurance info checked out- simply top notch service. Dr. Glasser was very funny and personable. He was very straightforward and helpful in explaining everything along the way through the exam. Also: he LOVES England and castles so if you get him going on that, it's pretty hilarious. (I was about to leave for vacation to England.) When my glasses arrived, I got an email notification to call to schedule a pickup/fitting. I was actually able to come in on the same day which was nice. If you're on the hunt for an eye doc and have VSP, definitely schedule an appointment with Dr. Glasser. read more

Dr. Glasser provided the most outstanding service I have received from an optometrist. I totally enjoyed my visit to Dr. Glasser's office. His office personnel were courteous and professional. Not counting completion of the required forms, the wait time to see the doctor was minimal. Dr. Glasser took time to review my medical history and provided complete explanations and comprehensive answers to all of my questions. He also took time to learn a little about me as a person. My experience was very professional and personal. Without hesitation, I recommend Dr. Glasser because of his skill, and personal interaction with me. ...and he is a Philadelphia Eagles fan. Having worn glasses and contacts my entire life, I'm picky about optometrists. When I got to D.C., I asked a friend (with her own eye challenges) for a recommendation, and she named Dr. Glasser, saying that he had been able to address her eye issues better than any previous doctor. My experience has been exactly the same - he worked with me (through several different iterations of contacts) to find the brand that was most comfortable for me, and I'm seeing better than ever. He's also aggressive about my eye health - he tells me what parts of the eye exam really are necessary - which I appreciate immensely, since I don't always have the money to splurge for everything but do want to stay healthy. He also has weekend hours (the first Saturday of every month), which is super helpful. You often have to schedule those appointments further in advance, but it's worth it to not have to take the time off work. read more

You did a good job. What I am saying is, your ASSISTANT makes me feel pressure to PURCHASE A PAIR OF GLASSES, especially the FRAME at your store. When I say I do not have time to look at it and I do not feel comfortable to buy when I am in rush, your ASSISTANT suddenly loses any interest to answer my questions and acts like wanting me to leave ASAP. As I said, your ASSISTANT is the first and last impression I have at your place. This is not a happy experience. I have been to other clinics before, it is really the first time I experience being treated this way. And I write my first comment on Yelp because of this experience. Seriously, I spent most of my time at his office just cracking up--with an eye infection, mind you. Also, he took the time to explain everything very clearly to me, in plain English (rather than medical jargon)--I was a premed once, and majored in life sciences (so I'm hoping the medical jargon wouldn't have been too over my head), but I really appreciated the simple, straightforward explanations. Also, super plus--I called in at 10 or so in the morning (my eyes were driving me crazy), and I got an appointment for less than TWO HOURS LATER. They also take the time to make sure all adjustments are made with my insurance company before I remit payment. I've been going to Dr. Glasser for years. (He has the second-most appropriate last name for his profession I've ever encountered. My barber growing up was named Larry Evilscissors. No joke.) Anyway, he's very thorough, though I can't help but feel he pushes exams that may be helpful, but aren't fully necessary and certainly aren't covered by insurance. Also, his frame selection is kind of lacking - certainly not the hippest set of frames I've ever seen. He's a nice guy and the turnaround for classes (about 10 days) is reasonable. read more
