This is one of the best optical stores I've ever been to. I love collecting glasses and have an embarrassing number (so I'm not going to reveal how many. The employees at Apex don't merely sell you just any frames. They give you perfect personal attention, wanting you to be satisfied. I was floored with how incredibly rude the service was. I went in asking for assistance with eyeglass nose pads for a specific brand of frames. I was promptly dismissed and told that asking for "Lindberg 8mm tear drop nose pads" was just "not in his terminology." Upon asking what I could do to explain more helpfully he stared at me blankly as if it would be better I just leave. Very very disappointing. I would strongly recommend getting eyeglasses and accessories elsewhere. read more

Apex provided timely, excellent, and honest customer service. Some background: I actually stopped by at APEX by chance, to see if they could fix my eye glass frames (the screw had broken on one side). I had gone first to another store on the same block as APEX (which I won't name), and the employee at that first store told me not only that my glasses were "not fixable," but also that I either had to purchase a whole new frame (from them) or call up the boutique in New York where I originally purchased my glasses "to see about having a replacement part sent." The guy then recommended that I "superglue" the broken part on my own at home, but that my glasses would then no longer be "bendable." I left disappointed, and happened to walk by APEX after I left. So I decided to get a second opinion and went inside. I am SO glad I did. Optician Youssef Ezzaki was excellent. He took one look at my glasses and said he could fix them. And he did so in about five minutes! Apex provided awesome (and honest!) customer service. I will definitely be coming back to Apex for my future eyeglass needs and for new glasses, and I highly recommend them. read more

Apex Optical is an outstanding place for quality glasses and repair. In addition to helping you with new frames, its friendly, knowledgeable staff can replace lenses on site, and in some cases while you wait. In my case, I had a favorite pair of frames that required new lenses and i was able to go the coffee shop next door and the glasses were ready by the time I 'd finished my espresso. I was walking by and decided to stop here to get my Pradas and Warby Parkers adjusted. I believe, from other reviews, the gentleman who helped me was Youssef. He used heat on both frames to adjust the glasses but ended up using a little more hand strength to fix the WPs. Both pairs sit better on my face until I sleep in them or drop them. It's a clean store and when I walked in, it was a quiet, peaceful shop with no one around. I've been going here for years, and the service and quality is simply outstanding. The selection of frames is huge and their advice is sound. A few years ago my glasses broke and I had no spares. They made a set of lenses on site and put them in a frame to lend me while they ordered new glasses (mine are pretty complicated). And they didn't charge me for the loaned glasses. View good is that? I spent the lovely Fall day walking around the city, and brought my glasses to be adjusted, just in case I walked by an eyeglass business. I spotted Apex Optical and walked in through the construction. I was warmly greeted by Youssef, and asked if he would consider bending the arms down on my glasses as to not fall off. He agreed and I handed over the glasses. No, I did not buy glasses from there, but they still fixed them for me. How nice. Another business in Old Town did the same thing for free for my first pair, which was also nice. Most businesses shouldn't charge you for this small favor. Upon looking at my glasses, he quickly noticed the Warby Parker logo (yes I love Warby Parker), and he said he was having a discussion about WP with his co-workers. They obviously do not care for Warby Parker, as one of them stated, "they are taking away their business". Yes, that may be so, but as I sat there I began getting interrogated by Youssef and another one of his co-workers about my decision to buy two pair of Warby Parker. I explained to him my reasons, and continued answering all the questions he kept throwing at me....thinking to myself, perhaps he should contact them for further questions. Not really sure about that other guys' ego/personality/issues, he seemed a touch offensive to me...but Youssef was super nice, and after all he did fix my glasses for free. I do like and support small business, and from what I saw walking around the store, they have a really nice selection of frames. Very stylish. If I were not a devout Warby Parker fan, I would most definitely consider getting my glasses from them. read more

I've bought lenses here a number of times because I have a tricky prescription that they seem to get right, but I don't agree with the people who give the business high marks for customer service. They absolutely never call to tell you your glasses are ready -- it's on you to check in with them. And on a recent visit picking up a pair of reading glasses, I found some frames I liked for a future purchase of distance glasses. I brought them to the man who was helping me and watched him make a note of the frame model number in my chart. When I came back to place the order for the new glasses, they could find no record of that information. WT? read more

Yusef was very helpful, patient and knowledgeable in helping me resolve an issue with glasses that I got from somewhere else. If you have a strong RX, I highly recommend them! He made sure that I was satisfied and I'm definitely pleased that he was able to make sure my lenses didn't look too thick. I have been going to Apex optical for over 5 years. There dedication to customer service is unparalleled excellence to any store or interaction I've had in my life. Apex staff will spend a good amount of time helping you find the best pair of glasses to fit your face and needs. When you get the glasses, they will spend a few minutes with you adjusting them to for your face, and then they offer continual cleaning an adjustment as needed on your frames included as part of there ongoing customer service. Finally on top of all that, they have saved me from having to purchase new frames with quick and affordable repairs on broken glasses. It is clear that the employees enjoy there jobs and that there is a great work environment. It is wonderful to see the same faces year after year and be recognized when walking in. I have a difficult time getting adjusted to new prescriptions and glasses. At the recommendation of my ophthalmologist I went to Apex the first time about 5 years ago. I would never go to another optician. Customer service by all the staff is excellent at both the adjustment and fitting stage and the time they give you to get the right style. They have a nice selection. There are a lot of expensive frames but I knew that going in. My first visit went well, I picked a pair of glasses around $600.00 and ordered them. This is a lot of money for me but it is something I'm wearing all the time. I was informed the glasses would take a week, they did not call so I called them after a week passed and they were not yet ready. This is fine although I could have done with a phone call. A couple of days later they hadn't called so I called them and was informed they were ready, thanks for the update! I should say at this point I asked for a discount due to their lack of communication and their mistake and they refunded me 10%. They also told me they had a large number of people to call and I shouldn't be too surprised. Strange as they as they didn't look like they were doing much except waiting for customers to come in. I went in to pick them up and they had got one of the lens proscriptions wrong. They apologized and told me they would call me when it was corrected. Well guess what, they didn't. A week later I called them and they were ready again. I went in and picked them up, realizing only later I had been given the incorrect lenses. The prescription was correct this time but I had paid extra for thinner lighter glass and this was most definitely not that. I went back (this time to the Tenleytown branch as it was Saturday) to complain and they acknowledged the mistake. Great, another week. I asked them to send the glasses to the Tenleytown branch as I was tired of dealing with the L St. staff and I had hoped the communication would be better. Well guess what? To cut a long story short it took two weeks and they never called me although I called them several times. Eventually I got the glasses and everything was correct. I should say that all my interactions in person and when I actually called them were cordial and professional, they always helped me immediately and were very apologetic about the situation. However that could have been because I was standing right in front of them. If someone spends this much money on glasses then their experiences, especially through two major mistakes, should be handled much better than this, I would not recommend this business. read more

i have a very complicated prescription: i'm extremely nearsighted, (20/200) so i get the ultra thin lenses. I also need progressives. But Apex got it right the first time. Keep in mind that it's an expensive boutique, but it's got a great selection. I also have several friends who got their glasses here and they were also happy with their selection. read more

Bought my glasses online from Warby Parker and when they arrived they needed an adjustment. Went to For Eyes first and the staff refused to help me even when I told them if anything happened during the adjustment I would not hold them liable. I then went next door to Apex and was treated like THEIR customer. Youssef spent a good 20 minutes making sure my glasses fit perfectly and did not even charge me! I will go here for glasses in the future because I know I will receive top notch customer service!! read more

I went in today, after trying another optician who wouldn't help me and wasn't at all kind about it. These guys are wonderful! I brought in a pair of glasses I didn't purchase there and they were super nice and adjusted them perfectly for free! I even tried to pay and was told they have a price for adjustments, but they almost never charge it they are happy to help. The gentleman being helped next to me was clearly trying on his first pair of bi-focal lenses and the eye doctor was taking his time to talk him through any and all learning curves he might have with them. I will certainly bring them my business when I next need glasses, they were kind, knowledgeable and the kind of business we should all support! read more

My nine-year old frames broke this weekend. I have nearly new lenses but the frames are discontinued (they still have the original order on file). Not to worry. He solved the technical problems and alignments with my progressive lenses with ease. I was so pleased that i bought a back up pair of lenses [for a frame that I had] and computer/reading glasses. Top drawer operation by Mark, the Manager. They have a great variety of glasses to choose from - from some real stylish Bulgari's to lower prices functional glasses. The prescriptions always seem to be completely correct when looked at by by doc. Don't agree they are hugely expensive. Glasses have become a style-object and you get what you pay for. If you want simple wire rims, they don't cost that much at all. You want the Bulgari's as I did? You pay. So? read more

Apex on L St has some very nice frames but they are quite pricey. My first experience with them over a year ago was great as I got very helpful advice on what frame looks good on me. Recently I was not impressed when I called to inquire about the specifications of a pair of glasses that I lost. Rather than providing courteous customer service, Yousef said "Are you going to use these numbers to buy the frames on-line?" When I went into the store in person Yousef was not that helpful. I think that the experience that you have at Apex is highly dependent on the employee. read more
