I don't know if this is specific to this location, to the franchise, or to the eyewear industry generally​, but the lenses I've gotten here the past several years--four at least--have lost the protective coating within a year or so. That shouldn't happen since I always get the extra protection, and I use a special lens cloth to clean them. Glasses are all but useless once that happens. I don't recall that ever happening before. The prescription sunglasses they made for me, at substantial expense, are an optical mess. Wavy lines, visible color prism, ill-fitting--unbearable. My Eye Doctor gave me a thorough and comprehensive eye exam! Their office was staffed with highly trained professionals who also had excellent listening, communication and interpersonal skills! The environment was relaxed and friendly, and they actively helped me find the perfect frames. Their selection of frames was substantial, and they had a wide range of prices to fit my budget. I liked the "option" of scheduling my appointment online; their webpage was easy to navigate, and it provided me with selection dates and times to schedule. I was also able to pre-register on line. I walked into this location of MyEyeDr in late 2024 to fill a prescription for new eyeglasses. I went to this store because my insurance covered it and because the location was convenient to Metro. The sign out front said that walk ins were welcome. When I arrived, staffers were busy scanning eyeglasses. I walked around for a while, looking at frames. When I was ready to select frames, I waited and waited and waited. Eventually, someone assisted me and helped me to select frames. I ordered frames and paid the entire balance upfront. I was told they would call me when my glasses arrived. This call came in the evening, the day I made the trip across town for another errand. It took me over a month to find the time to get back across town to pick up my glasses. When I arrived, I waited and waited and waited again, and when someone finally bothered to help me, they could not find my eyeglasses! They LOST MY GLASSES! I ordered new glasses and picked them up promtly when they were ready. The fit wasn't great, so I asked the person who helped me to adjust them so they didn't slide down my nose. This person BENT THE FRAME of the glasses, rather than adjusting the nose pads, which is the customary fix for this issue. I didn't realize this until I got home. I seldom wear the glasses because the bent frame misaligns the lenses and distorts my vision. I will be taking these to a different optician for repair. I will not use this optician again and cannot recommend them for basic optician services. read more

They required you to sign a waiver so they are not responsible if they break your frames. These wayfarers -- not exactly exotic. What did they do? They broke my frames. But hooray -- I could buy another frame if I wanted to! And at 50% off (due to my insurance). Yuck. My eye exam was fine and I got a referral to some specialist that I needed. The contacts I ordered were sent to my house and arrived quickly. My glasses are where everything fell apart. I had my initial eye exam March 12 and still don't have my glasses with updated lenses and it's July 1 on Monday. I didn't like any of the frames at their store better than the ones I currently have, so they were going to replace my lenses with the updated prescription. After not hearing anything for 6 weeks, I called and something must have happened because they still weren't ready. Then when I brought the glasses to have my new lenses put in, the lenses were apparently cut wrong, so they took my frames and sent them to have the new lenses put in. Then, I'm not sure if they put in the wrong prescription or cut the progress lenses wrong, but it was nearly impossible to read with my new lenses. I've worn progressive lenses for over 3 years, so it's not that I'm new to these types of glasses. I was irate that after over 2 months of waiting for my updated prescription lenses I was seeing far worse than before, especially given how much this type of lens cost. So I brought them back and the guy said that my pupil had been measured wrong. So, he remeasured And assured me all would be fixed. Four weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything, so I called and apparently they never got sent out. So she said she would put a rush on them. Then this Friday June 28, I go to pick them up - mind you this is already the 3rd time I've tried to get them. So, he hands them to me and they are BIFOCALS with the little box. I was like, what is this? I ordered progressive lenses. They were like no, it says here this type. And I said "No. I originally ordered these in March and I have NEVER had bifocals, I've only had progressive lenses". So the manger looks them up in the computer and apologizes and said she misunderstood the update when she sent them. My husband told me I should ask for a manager, but she is the one who has handled my issues every time and they are still not fixed. I'm super angry because I've been using glasses that are 5 years old and not progressives and by the time they actually get it right, it will probably be time for new glasses again. Do not, under any circumstances try to get glasses - especially progressive lenses - from this store. The worst experience of my life for glasses and I've been wearing glasses for over 30 years. Absolute worst experienceS of my life! Front desk staff is horrible. Trying to make an appointment, also horrible. The General Manager of a particular location wouldn't only NOT talk to me, she grabbed her purse and walked out the door without acknowledgment. My first prescription was wrong, and when I tried to make another appointment, it was near impossible - it literally took the entire year when I was forced to go back since the rx was expiring. Tried giving them another chance, absolutely horrible. This time though, I got customer relations involved and it was even worse. I stood in the parking lot bawling in 100 degree heat because they wouldn't let me see the dr without paying the entire out of pocket portion upfront - even though I had insurance! What?! Then, for all the trouble I experienced, they offered me $35 off if I ordered a year of contacts. Why... on... earth... would I ever do business with this place again?! I promptly scheduled another appointment with a different eye dr which I will have to pay out of pocket because they've since billed my insurance company for this awful experience, even after the wrong prescription and trial contacts! read more

I recently went to the Oxon Hill location but due to the rules I was 10 mins. late so they didn't see me but my daughter had an appointment 20 mins of mine they saw her but during the whole time we was there over 30 plus mins. no one came in are was seen. Everyone was so friendly and helpful - I got me a full eye exam and a year's supply of contacts for half of what I paid at another eye doctor or on 1800Contacts, all in less than 30 minutes. Update as of 4/3/19: I have my glasses back. LeJon was very helpful, and he was able to fit my new frames perfectly. Contrary to what the first store associate had informed me of in my initial review below, they do have the machine that allows for metal frames to be adjusted. They wouldn't be my first choice for anything glasses-related, but I do think that with the exception of the first store associate I dealt with, the people who work there are considerate and helpful. -- Update as of 4/1/19: a couple weeks later and I still am without new frames. Not only am I still without, but I had to reach out to this store twice to find out they were delayed. After reaching out again to their customer service today, I was promised a call or email from the store before the end of day to let me know when I could expect my frames. That clearly hasn't happened. Worst store to have to deal with. -- *To be updated if addressed I went in this afternoon to have my frames adjusted. They're metal and only a month old. I had never visited a store by this company, but I just needed my glasses to be slightly smaller so that they would stop falling down my face. Two seconds after they're in the glasses tech's hands, the side is snapped -- not even enough time to ask her to stop bending them. She was able to find them in their distribution list and ordered a new pair (thank goodness) but then, as she's taking down my information to create a profile with the store, mentions that they don't have the machine necessary to adjust metal frames and I should have taken them to another place in town. She also then mentions that the profile should have been up before anything else was done, and that I should have had to pay 50% of the newly ordered frames. Because the profile wasn't up, I should be able to pick up the frames without additional cost, but will update this review depending on how they handle it. I mentioned that I'm leaving for travel Friday night, so the tech said they would be in by Friday afternoon. Again, update to come. While she did arrange to address the situation in that moment, an apology would have gone further than her telling me I should have taken them elsewhere. read more

The staff were very nice and welcoming and the store clean, but the exam itself was the worst eye exam I have ever had. I went in for my first eye exam in 2 1/2 years (I have been out of the country) and to get a new prescription. They read my glasses in a machine at the front desk (I did not have a copy of my last prescription. If you go, make sure you have a past prescription, maybe the result will be better) and then I went into the exam room with the optometrist. The entire exam, every lens option she flipped through was blurry, and hard to see through, which I told her. Eventually she said she had found my new prescription and put lenses into a practice frame, but the prescription was impossible to see with, I could not read the letters she told me to, and told her repeatedly that the prescription was not right. Her response was that my astigmatism is so bad I can only hope for 20/30 vision and so this was the best she could do. I have been wearing glasses for 16 years, my astigmatism is moderate, but completely treatable, and I have only ever had my prescription change in minor increments each year (all of which I told the optometrist). I have never had an eye exam that did not end with a clear, and use-able prescription (and until the last two years, saw my optometrist annually). She refused to try to find a different prescription and suggested I go see my old eye doctor (who is in a different state) if I didn't like it. Then I was taken to the front desk, I told them I would not be taking the prescription and was charged $99. Stick with your old optometrist if you can. read more

Horrible customer service - I booked a contacts fitting appointment, showed up, forked over the money, and left with what I later learned was a glasses prescription. When I called to get this corrected, I was told that the doctor (Dr. Nick Neagle) hadn't actually done the fitting that I asked for and If I wanted an actual contacts prescription I was free to pay another $115 and come back in. They were clearly just trying to get me to buy glasses from them in-store. As soon as I was done with the eye exam I was sent out to the lobby to be pitched various pairs of glasses that I had expressly not come in for. Again, this was a contact lens appointment. It sure looks like this is a business that makes their money on selling high-margin items in store rather than simply providing a service. read more

Twice they booked "the wrong type of appointment" which made the wait even longer. Poor communication and terrible customer service... I understand that Covid-19 and social injustice issue affected my order and I've been very patient but waiting 4-5 months is getting ridiculous. The lack of communication and initiative they're taking to resolve my order is unacceptable. Initially, I was told that my lens were back ordered, then I was told the office was looted so they have to re-order it, and 2 weeks later since my last call, I still haven't heard anything. What am I supposed to believe? I called today and asked for the office manager to call me back with an update but that didn't get a call. If you come here be sure you know exactly what they will be charging for ahead of time. Felt like I got nickle and dimed. It started with an extra cost for some test that elminiated the need for dialation (I would gladly have waited the 30 minutes had I been given the option). Then a minor adjustment to my prescription. And of course the high pressure sales situation at the end of the visit where they try to sell you all types of products which you can get elsewhere at a better price. Unfortunately, this type of money game seems to be standard practice in this field, but I still don't appreciate it. They're getting 2 stars because the visit was quick at least. So why am I writing YEARS later with a 3 star review? THEY WILL SPAM CALL YOU FOR YEARS!!!!! I moved to another city and asked for my records to be transferred. Still got robocalls from them about "missed appointments" even though I went to a new dr. Ok, understandable but still a tad annoying. I'd had a good experience here a few years ago, but something has gone terribly downhill. THE UPSHOT: They twice produced glasses (specifically, the lenses) that I did not ask for. And now they won't return calls. They've consistently been horrible at getting back to me. THE LONGER STORY: I was there at the beginning of the year and it's now just about October as I write this. I admittedly took ridiculously long to work out what frames to get after that visit, as I was hoping to find a new pair of the model I've been wearing these past few years. (They couldn't change the lenses in-house, so I'd either have to go without glasses for a few weeks--NO--or buy a new pair. Fine.) I tried and tried but couldn't find this model, it's not made anymore and I couldn't find online, so then I needed to get something else. But, even though I was in touch with them about holding onto my lenses--which they assured me was all good, we were staying in touch--and then e-mailed them when I concluded that I needed to figure out a new frame, I didn't hear back, and then found out that they sent my lenses back *after* I had gotten in touch with them about going in to choose a new frame. Okay, fine, it happens, and they were able to get the lenses back. (That may have taken a few extra weeks?) Possibly to have a new set re-cut on their dime given their error, I don't know. I went in and settled on a new pair, and since January I had been arguably comically set on trying as much as possible to replicate the look that I've had the last few years. The lenses are longer horizontally, not at all round. I knew what I wanted and made it clear. I nail everything down and pay for it--HUNDREDS of dollars out of pocket, despite insurance--and wait a few more weeks for them to come in. I get the call that they're ready and a few days later go pick them up, and find that the lenses are ROUND! Very very very much NOT what I had adamantly made clear I didn't want. They acknowledged their error and sent it all back to be re-cut. I had to wait weeks more. Get the call again that they've got the new ones in. I make it in a few days later. They seemed about right. It was getting close to closing and so I was trying with my blurry eyes to see how they looked on me and I figured they seemed right. Hard to tell, since there was a change of prescription and my eyes weren't seeing right out of these when I put them on to see how I looked. Yeah, well, later on, at home, I saw that they were half an inch wider--this may not seem significant, but I have a small, narrow face, and it absolutely DOES make a difference! I figured these would be maybe a few millimeters wider, but not half an inch! I called and left a message for the woman I'd been dealing with--never heard back. I called a couple days later--she was gone for the day. I e-mail--no response. I e-mail again and she tells me that the manager will call me by the end of the day. THAT WAS TWO WEEKS AGO. I've followed-up, no responses. It is getting close to a year since this new prescription was set and I've not been able to make use of them, how much more will my eyes even change before I'm able to stat wearing these "new" glasses?! Hundreds of dollars I've put into this! (No, I don't want to wear these in the meantime because then when they finally start screwing around, I have to give them back and have my eyes RE-adjust to the old pair, which I'm wearing right now. I don't want my eyes to have to keep readjusting.) I was extremely patient at first. It was even my fault the first little while that it was dragging, but this is unacceptable and I need MyEyeDr to remedy this situation. Really, ideally, I need my eyes checked again soon to see if anything has even changed requiring an adjusted prescription, these lenses may be close to useless at this point! UPDATE, WEEKS AFTER I POSTED THE ABOVE: They invited me back for a new, complimentary exam, given how long this has gone. I even talked on the phone to Armando to arrange an appointment. I get there, long wait, expecting to see the doctor, but instead Armando sits me down and asks, "So, what's going on?" He KNEW what's going on, that's why I'm THERE. So I explain the situation again, and learn that I'm not actually having an exam that day, I'd have to take MORE time away from work to go back the NEXT week for THAT. Turns out, I have a new prescription. TWO WEEKS later I finally hear back from Armando, and all he has to say is that they can't fill my needs (??) and they'd provide a "full refund." For three weeks since then, he's silent over the exact amount he's referring to and whom I may meet with, and to also please provide me my new prescription for me to take elsewhere. I have paid hundreds of dollars to these people and am wearing 6-year-old glasses that don't provide me proper vision, these people are absolutely incompetent and THIEVES at this point. I went for an initial examination for new eyeglasses at the Hyde Park. My eyes were examined by Dr. Muroski who would not dilate my eyes because he was afraid to damage my ocular nerves. When I asked for an explanation, he appeared to be anxious about telling me why. He recommended an ophthalmologist who was not near where I live. His reluctance to tell why made me anxious. Despite that he gave me a prescription for glasses. I chose glasses that I liked. The person who fitted me tried to persuade to buy a more expensive pair. I wasn't sure this man was even an optician. He also pushed me to follow up with this specific doctor. I was told that I would be called when my glasses arrived. I never received the call. I had voice mail on my phone and no calls and plenty of room on my vm, so I would have known if they has called. When I called two weeks later, the woman who answered and told me I should call later as they had not come in. I waited a week to call and the person who answered said that they had come in the week before. I asked if I should make an appointment with the optician. I was told I should just walk in. I did so and a woman who was shuffling papers ignored me until she had finished. She handed me my glasses in a box and walked away...no fitting, no nothing. They were too loose on my face and she reluctantly tightened them. The broke 4 months later. The practice that Dr. Muroski sent me to was like an assembly line with an irritable doctor at the end. I found a better doctor within a mile of my house. Now I'm getting incessant robocalls from My Eye Doctor. No Thanks! read more

NEVER AGAIN! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!! Read my review until the end. So after speaking with their customer service on the phone, they convinced us to come back and said that it would not cost more than $99 for the frames and glasses versus the $200+ quote they previously gave us and that this would be a much better experience. On June 11, 2011, we picked out the frames and glasses and paid $99. They said it would be ready in a week for pickup. They suggested to pick them up so that they can make any adjustments to the frames to fit properly. They also offered a free pair of sunglasses upon pickup. We let them know that we needed to pick them up before June 22, 2011 because we were going on vacation and my boyfriend needed them on our trip. On June 18, 2011, one week later, the glasses are not ready. They said they would ship them to MyEyeDr in Vienna, VA and they would be ready for pickup on Tuesday, June 21, 2011. On June 21, 2011, we called the MyEyeDr in Vienna, VA. They do not have the glasses and have no idea what I am talking about. I don't understand why I need to track down these glasses? Why wouldn't Embassy Opticians call us to let us know when they would be ready and where they would be? On June 22, 2011, they arrive at the house?!?!?! That was never communicated at any given point in time. We went on vacation from June 22-26, 2011. What a great idea, ship them when no one is home. WHAT HAPPENED... -What happened to picking them up at MyEyeDr in Vienna, VA to ensure a a correct fit and to avoid an additional trip to make any necessary adjustments? -What happened to the complimentary sunglasses? -What happened to making this a better experience the second time around? -What happened to providing great customer service by communicating to the customer that the glasses were not ready and where and when they would be? I placed an order in October for a pair of prescription glasses.... I have called several times and left messages 4 times now all telling me that I should be receiving an update soon and to "just call back". It has been now 2 months of back and forth and no one has been able to give me a correct update on when I can expect my prescription order placed over 2 months ago. This location used to be the dependable location- now I'm extremely disappointed to say this location is very disorganized and I'm convinced they straight up forgot to place my order. Would recommend checking out a different location till management either hires more help, or figures out a solution to not lose orders and stay on top of their account management. Yet Selection of glasses that I or WE who have Medicare and are on disability and Medicaid as a secondary cannot afford there so-called Frames to choose from are SLIM,, being on a fixed budget stinks and the 2 ladies working at the front desk, didn't try to help at all, I was explaining to them how I got a discount last year and they would not even budge...to try and help me, didn't care that I didn't have any extra money or bother to say, hey.. let me show you this or that, just GO TO THE BACK WALL and pick from a certain color tag, no smiles, no help, very disappointing.. will never recommend or say go there.. as my friends have asked where I go.. A simple smile, or help... just more friendliness can go a long way. I said no thank YOU, and thanks for such GREAT SERVICE (sarcastically) and said just give me my script and I will go elsewhere. No complaints with the quality of the eye exam. However, the sales staff is high pressure. On multiple occasions I've felt like sales staff have pushed the priciest options without laying out alternatives or listening to what I wanted; they've also presented commitments as reversible and easy to get out of, and then put up roadblocks when I did try to change my mind. Maybe I'm just a pushover, but I've repeatedly walked out regretting purchases and felt pretty bad as a result. If you go in for an eye exam, I'd take a hard "no" on buying any glasses or contacts from them, or at least insist on making zero commitments during your first visit. read more

I came here because of a Living Social coupon for an eye exam plus $225 toward eyeglasses. Dr. Thanh-Loan Dorsam was terrific as was Nyssa the sales woman who helped me pick out my new pair of glasses. Everyone was very professional and very easy going. Nyssa helped me pick out a pair of frames, but wasn't pushy at all - I would say she was very patient considering my spouse and I were in there for an hour trying to decide on "just the right pair". Dr. Dorsam also was able to see me for my exam that evening even though I didn't have an appointment. Most of their glasses range from about $230-500. So I definitely recommend going here with a coupon toward glasses, but all the frames were really nice as were all the people working there. I'm adding another note on my previous review. I went and picked up my new glasses and was dismayed that the price of the frames did not include the price of the lenses. I guess I thought there would be a small up charge for the lenses, but not the $180 up charge I received! I made an appointment for this location on August 5th. I had an appointment schedule for today, August 11th at 4:20pm. I was looking forward to finally see someone to update my prescription and possibly look into receiving contacts. I received 2 calls at 3:41pm today stating that they do not accept my insurance and that my appointment is cancelled. I should've been notified of this sooner and preferably NOT almost 40 minutes before my appointment. While the employee was courteous the late cancellation is unacceptable and I know they wouldn't appreciate it if a customer did it to them, so why do it to me? read more

Came here for a contact lens fitting since it was convenient and covered by insurance. Doctor was great; she did all the tests and was allowed me to stay with the same prescription and contact brands. I really like that she didn't try to pressure me unnecessarily and that she seemed focused on my eye health. So why not 5 stars? The place is small and a bit crowded. More seriously, associates were generally friendly but were incorrect in the way they tried to bill me. It took 30 minutes of question-asking (on my part) to get to the conclusion that my insurance had almost 100% coverage. The associate that helped me at the end was very calm and professional and we were eventually able to resolve the issue but if I hadn't verified what my insurance covered, I would have been out of more than $300 unnecessarily. Overall, I'd give 3.5 stars. I would go back and I'm happy with the results in the end; it just took more time and initiative on my part than I would like to get there. read more

This is a good location for My Eye Dr. The staff is friendly and service is generally quick. The only drawback for this location is a limited variety of eye glasses to choose from, compared to other locations of My Eye Dr. Hence the minus 1 star. read more

Came to MyEyeDr for a routine check up. Michael, one of the store assistants, went over and beyond my expectations! He explained everything with regards to my insurance, told me about promotions, helped fit me in for a contacts exam even after my appointment was over (same day), AND somehow I lost my (old) glasses walking to my car and he searched throughout the store and outside for me. No, we didn't recover them but he's going to help me find new frames and present me with promotions! The lady doctor, I don't recall her name, she was great as well. Recommended a different contact lens strength for my astigmatism that would save me tons of money! Definitely recommend this location! They are greta! read more

This MyEyeDr location is accommodating, helpful, and gives great opinions. I walked in on a busy Saturday afternoon with a LivingSocial coupon. I was able to see the Dr right away. Dr. Glasgow was super sweet and very informative; she explained her every move and took her time with me. Not only did the exam go fabulously, I had the pleasure of being helped by Jerome, who gave his opinion on a whole bunch of high end frames I couldn't decide between. Armando is also very helpful and sweet (he has helped me in the past when I was just browsing- but wasn't there today).
