After getting my kitchen cabinets refaced, I needed the interiors of just two cabinets with glass doors painted to match the new exterior color (white). It seemed like an easy task but I wasn't having much luck on finding someone who could do it till I reached out to Steve. Once I got an estimate, he was able to get the job scheduled the same week. After painting, there were some issues in getting the two cabinet doors rehung (stripped screws) but Steve followed through in making sure additional people came by to switch out the screws before he considered the job complete. This is a work-in-progress review since Stephen Navarro's team is still working on our property, but I felt compelled to write now since I've been so impressed thus far. My husband and I recently purchased a home outside of Boston and we're still residing in our condo in the city until some work in the new place is compete (it's an older home). After receiving several quotes for interior painting of the new home, it was Stephen's honesty, demonstrated talent, fair pricing and professionalism that persuaded us to go with them. I can't say enough about Stephen and his crew. He showed up to our house exactly on time - actually, five minutes early - to assess the job and by early that evening had delivered a quote. Leading up to the week he was to start painting, he offered advice and candid feedback on paint colors, leading us to reconsider one of the colors we'd chosen (and thank god we did). We decided to hire Stephen Navarro because of the consistently fantastic reviews we had read on Yelp. Stephen and his crew did a wonderful job for us on two different projects. Stephen told us that he treats every home as if it were his own -- we found this to be true. He and his group exceeded our expectations. In addition, the price was very reasonable. We recently had to replace our porch railings and columns. At the same time we wanted to repaint the front of the house and replace and repaint quite a few rotted boards on our painted porch deck. When Stephen came to give us an estimate for the painting part of the project, he pointed out to us that we were replacing so many deck boards that we might as well consider replacing them all. That way, we could have a new wood stained deck rather than staying with our original painted deck (which even after painting might not look that good and would require a lot of ongoing maintenance). There was no benefit to Stephen for making this suggestion - his fee would have been about the same either way. He just realized and shared with us his view of what our deck could look like with natural wood. We decided to take his suggestion and we are so happy that we did. We now have a wonderful porch and deck restoration with a beautiful wood stained deck. It feels like we have added a new room to the house. During the project, Stephen had a wonderful sense for color and design. His suggestions were right on the mark. It's been less than a week, but we've already received a lot of compliments on restoration. Regarding the actual work, Stephen and his crew of Scott, Eduardo, and Patrick did a meticulous job. My wife and I have hired Stephen Navarro to do major painting projects at our Chestnut Hill home twice over the past fifteen years. The first time, Steve and his crew painted the outside of our stucco home. We had used other painting contractors prior to that, but none of them seemed to know how to do the prep work necessary to provide a superior paint job on stucco. Steve did fabulous work and his paint job lasted far longer than any previous work. The second time, Steve and his crew worked with us to find a new color for the outside of our home. Again, they did a fabulous job. Not only was the work of high quality, but Steve and his crew were efficient, on-time, courteous, and careful of the property. We have received many compliments on the house. After they finished the outside of the house, we asked Steve to do some indoor projects. He repainted 6 inside rooms, put new weights and ropes in our double-hung windows, and sanded and stained the window channels. EXCELLENT VALUE in a COMPLETE PACKAGE Stephen Navarro's crew of Pat and Scott did a great job painting our Newton house in August 2015. What sets him apart is the value you get for your money, his ability to offer a comprehensive solution -- not just painting but all the related jobs that must be done when a house is painted -- and his unwavering focus on customer satisfaction. VALUE-FOR-MONEY: Full disclosure: I painted houses for 5 years in college. I know what it takes to do a quality job -- not easy because our house is hard to paint. It is stucco, three+ floors with an over-abundance of dormers, and a sloping driveway that makes safe ladder placement a challenge. Back when I was painting, I would have run away from this job -- as did many painters who looked at the house. The few who were willing to offer an estimate would only agree to spray paint the stucco. While that technique is fine for stucco that is in good shape, it would have been at best a stop-gap for our house. Steve, in contrast, proposed to apply one coat of oil-based primer followed by a finish latex coat -- both applied by hand with fuzzy rollers, so every nook and cranny in the stucco would be sealed. His price was less than the spray-paint boys. Steve's crew showed up early every day and worked relentlessly. I was especially impressed with their conscientious approach to surface preparation. This is a critical step that is often under-appreciated by the layperson who just wants to see paint being applied. Basically, a paint job is only as good as the prep. As I watched from the ground, I was amazed at the way they just kept at it, knowing that if I were up there on the ladder I'd be tempted to do a less thorough job. As the house progressed, I noticed all the little cracks and crevasses in the stucco and trim were being identified and filled as Scott and Pat swarmed over the house, inch by inch, not once but three times. COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION: Before the house could be properly painted, it needed a bunch of minor repairs, ranging from bits of missing stucco (usually in hard-to-reach spots) and wood trim, to removing a wobbly pergola over an elevated deck, to an old TV cable dangling off the side of the house 30 feet up. Most other painters said, "well, as soon as you get those fixed, I can come and paint the house." The problem is, tradespeople understandably don't want to come fix a bunch of small jobs, or they must charge you for all their time to set up a ladder and scaffolding just to reach one missing 8-inch bit of stucco. Either way, I was up the proverbial creek. Steve, in contrast, could call on a carpenter and a mason as needed and could synchronize those repairs with the painting so that one did not delay the other. When Steve's carpenter took down the pergola, he carefully saved the weathered redwood and used it to re-build the railing around the deck so the wood on the "new" railing matched the wood on the old deck; they look like they were installed together. Bits of missing stucco high up against the chimney were repaired quickly when the painters already had their ladders and scaffolding set up for surface prep. Ultimately the old TV cable was attached neatly to the house with insulated staples, but only after the crew asked us exactly what we wanted. One small detail that speaks volumes: the crew painted the cable to match the house, but also painted those sections where the cable crossed the trim to match the trim. FOCUS ON CUSTOMER SERVICE: Steve repeatedly told us "I want you to be happy with the job." Then he walked the talk. Two small incidents illustrate his approach. We had a difficult time deciding on the dark green paint that was applied around the window frames. In addition to bringing us the usual paint swatches, Steve recommended a color. We thought was too dark and were torn between two lighter shades. Steve got custom samples from the paint store and had the crew paint a couple of frames so we could see just how the colors looked on the house. We chose the darker of our two shades and Pat finished a half-dozen windows before quitting time. Only next morning did we realize that our "darker" choice was still too light. Off went Steve for yet another custom-mix paint sample, which Pat applied to a test window. Finally, we were happy with that color and Pat proceeded to paint all the window frames, including re-painting the ones he'd already done. The other incident happened on the last day. Deep in the basement, I found the storm door "insert" that goes into our front door in winter. The insert is divided into multiple glass panes and it's two sided. It's a *lot* of painstaking work to paint. Finding it on the last day, I was hoping that maybe it could at least be prepped and primed -- this really was a last-minute "curve ball" to throw at the crew. Stephen and his crew recently painted my new condo in Belmont. He is truly top notch. When we bought the place we had no idea how much work was actually going to be needed to make the walls look even halfway decent. The sellers strategically hid a lot of problems with furniture placement and when it was all out, we were shocked by all the issues. Enter Stephen, Mike and Scott! They repaired all the problems so fast! By day two, the place already looked 95% better. Once they had completed the job (in 6 days, coming in a day earlier than projected) it looked like a different (and much, much nicer and cleaner) house. Stephen and his team painted the ceilings in my home in South Boston. We had water damage from a leak in the roof and some badly-done fixes to the drywall. Stephen and team did the fixes, added stain protection, and noticed some problems with our windows and added those into their job! They were very professional and friendly and did a terrific job. You'd never know we had any problems now. I've never seen anyone work so quickly! They did everything - moved what needed to be moved (and we had a closet with stuff piles up to the ceiling that they had to empty), covered everything with drop cloths, cleaned up afterwards, put everything back. I'll definitely hire them again when I need painting done in future. One note on scheduling: We had this work done in June. This is the busy season for painters; they're working on a lot of outside jobs. Stephen scheduled our inside job for "the next rainy day". He called the day before to set the time. I'm going to second what another reviewer said: These guys are as good as it gets. I picked Stephen because of his stellar reviews on YELP. We had already had other painters in to quote the ten rooms we needed painted, but we had an instant connection with Stephen. His quote was very reasonable, but it was more than that. When you talk with Stephen there's just a feeling that this guy knows what he's doing and will deliver on everything he promised. And he did. Without exception. When Stephen and his team showed up, there was minimal disruption to the house. And I mean, minimal. They painted the upstairs first so we'd have our master bedroom back as soon as possible. The team uses drop clothes, moves all the furniture themselves, and then clean up all the dust and paint afterwards. These guys are slaves to detail, they go back and check every room after they paint it and will clean up any inconsistency before you can even mention it. One other thing I wanted to mention is that four of our rooms had wallpaper. Really awful wallpaper stuck on with a glue that took half the wall with it when it came off. The team essentially had to re-skim the entire dining room. We know this added at least another day of work to the job, but Stephen honored his quote. I just don't think other painters would have done this. I have recommended Stephen and his team to everyone I know who is considering painting.
