I was a client at this Business. Mind you this was I believe in 2016 or the beginning of 2017 and then it was legit business proper staff proper classes they had during during the day like it was Geared towards helping people recover. Mind you they did things that where not let's say on the up n up. Like BILLING with clients they had a job position just for getting the clients on private pay insurance so that they can BILL them through the nose. It is a safe, relaxing, friendly environment geared to help you succeed in living a sober life after detox. I have been living in StepHouse's female sober living home in Costa Mesa for about a month. The house I stay in has a capacity of 6 females. It is very clean and all the girls I live with are friendly and helpful. Living here has provided me with a stable environment where I feel safe and am able to live clean. Because of this program I have a roof over my head, I am happily clean and was even able to start a new job! Nice Neighborhood. Nice House, most rooms have a half bath. More than enough food is provided, and there's about 8 Refrigerators, not including the community fridge. Overall a pretty clean house, just depends on the crowd. Curfew is a little later on the weekends and you can always submit an overnight pass if needed. Staff is super helpful and attentive. I had the opportunity to speak with, email, and text the owner, George V, several times. I also visited the women's sober living house in Fountain Valley. The house was fine; however, George provided false information regarding available transportation from the house to medical appointments. He said, according to my notes from our conversation and from text messages, that all the women in the house use an app called Treyo, which provides transportation. After telling George that I must have reliable and low-cost transportation for medical needs, he assured me that the app would be appropriate. In good faith, upon visiting the house and meeting some of the residents, I sent George a $200 deposit. After doing so, I discovered that Treyo is only for people on state or federal MediCal/MediCare. Within three days of visiting the house and sending the deposit, I contacted George to let him know that I would not be able to move in because of the lack of transportation. While he was not obligated to refund the $200, he wrote (on October 18th) the following: "Your $200 will be refunded." Unfortunately, despite his reassurance through several texts that he was refunding the money, as of November 6th, that has not been the case. If he had been honest and just said that he wouldn't return the deposit, I would not have left this review; however, I cannot tolerate people who do not tell the truth. read more

I love Step House! I've been through a couple sober living homes during my recovery journey and Step House is exactly what I needed after completing a treatment program. I can honestly say that this place puts recovery first. They have zero tolerance for drugs/alcohol so the people who don't want to change her weeded out so they don't bring others down. I've seen places that have rampant drug use and house managers look the other way as long as rent is paid, This is not that kind of place. The houses are nice, the rim rim rooms are comfortable and the management really care and are amazing people. I spent 4 months there and was sad to leave but it was time for the next step in my life. I admitted myself to stephouse recovery in the beginning of February. The detox house was maintained well and was perfect when I needed a place to get sober at. A lot of my success In this program is because Katie the program manager. She is extremely invested in her clients and makes sure to focus on each individual case by case. The program really helped identify a lot of the issues I was battling outside of addiction. I'm still sober today and I would definitely recommend this recovery house for anyone going through a similar situation. read more

When we first found this place for our son, we were hopeful that this would be the first step in the long journey of recovery. Alas, we were wrong. Our son spent only 4 nights in the program before calling us for help, because of the terrible condition in which he lived. They had made him live with hardcore drug addicts which were much older than him and he couldn't really feel safe. And worst, before giving him the permission to leave, the administration of Stephouse Recovery forced him to sign certain documents, so they wouldn't have to pay back the $1500+ fee we had initially paid for our son's 45 days stay at the program. When we protested, they showed us a copy of the document that our son had apparently "initialized". I would NOT recommend this place to anyone. These people only care about making money. This is just a ruthless business, not a safe place to help kids heal. Very disappointing! read more

StepHouse Recovery helped turn my best friend's (who is like a sister to me) life around. It was hard enough to deal with the fact that she had an addiction, and it was even harder for me to figure out what the right treatment was or who I could trust to help her. I just wanted to be sure that she could get the best care possible. I had another friend's son who was treated at StepHouse, and naturally she referred me to there. What's great about the people here is that they put an emphasis on face-to-face connection and make you feel like a member of their own family, instead of a case number or a statistic, which was comforting and unexpected. Even the CEO of the center George Vilagut was on hand throughout all of her treatment and stay to reach out to me, personally check on her progress and answer all of the questions I had. I also thank from the bottom of my heart Lana Richards, one was the counselors that was essential to Clarie's recovery and is someone who she speaks of fondly and looks up to. I don't do many reviews but I feel this one is important, especially because I hope this helps someone else who is looking for treatment for themselves or someone they love. My family member was a client at Step House, and everything was pretty good at first other than a month after he signed a contract for cash payment they increased his payment by $250.00 with only giving him 3 days notice of the increase. We dealt with that and he stayed almost 6 months. Right after Christmas 2017 we were given 1 1/2 weeks notice that Step House would be closing it's doors, and that ALL clients would have to find other programs and/or leave by Dec. 29th 2017. When we were notified almost all support staff had already been laid off, clients were no longer being drug tested, not given rides to meetings, and no groups or programming. The only staff they really had for that week and a half was some therapists & administrative staff, most of them desperately trying to find programs for all of the clients. Many of the clients including my family memeber were not able to find another program. Without private insurance they could not find a program, and if they did find a program they couldn't get in because they were sober at the time. Come Dec. 29, 2017 they were kicked out, all of them. Some with their belongings on the grass, locked out of the houses. Many of them relapsed after this. Come to find out Step House didn't close. The owner George notified me that he had "restructured" the program. This time when asked the cost it had increased by more than 4x the amount my family memeber was paying. Stay far away from Step House the owner is money hungry, and doesn't care about the well-being of the people looking to recover. read more

I met some really good people here. Some I have called my sober companion and others I called my friends. Dolores , Rita, Ana and Patrick are the most professional people working there and they really care about my recovery and well-being. Even after my stay, they help me to continue on the path of staying sober with life tools to use outside of treatment. It's bitter sweet, because I hope to never come back to treatment but am going to miss these guys with how well they treated me. Keep up the good work y'all. BIG MISTAKE RUN LIKE HELL!! A serious crime (felony) occurred to myself while staying there the other day to which I'm bound professionally to report. At first I tried to blow it off but then when I realized how big it was I had to call the cops to check into it. Guess what? The unprofessional and clinically dangerous staff woke me up after taking sedating medication and kicked me out for calling the cops! Are they that blazingly stupid they throw a mental health professional out like they won't seriously regret it? They expected me to drive! the sober living house multiple residents pass out dangerous psychotropic meds like candy- residents with psychosis go untreated. I am calling every available licensing agency in AM on these people. Don't trust them with a house plant. I'm telling you- men breaking into women's rooms- could have had a 5 keg party and they wouldn't have known. Completely clueless no idea about dual diagnosis whatsoever. Will call city council tomorrow due to danger in neighborhood. Resident walked out of front door and down the street at midnight and staff said nothing - mentally ill resident!! Nice guy but against supposed rules. No talk of recovery just stuffing humans in rooms- big mistake on me though- I have a license and a voice- I don't disappear. I currently live in this house...i have been here 20 days. If You have gotten to this point of reading this. I understand the severity of your situation. Please take heed to my warnings about this place. Having to pick an ab109 inpatient Recovery House, I chose this home because the appeal of only six people living here. My bad for not further investigating. If by chance you've already phoned this place and spoken with either a Dolores or George. You have already been in the snake pit. The truth be told they're using our insurance and ab109 as a Straight Cash Cow. I have seen 6 counselors fired and 10 different people exit the home in just 20 days. There is no set schedule their program is a joke and it's very obvious what their goal is here..To charge ab109 and Medi-Cal money for you which goes through every Friday. why the most kick-outs happen Friday night and The weekend. I've witnessed counselors physically putting their hands on clients snatching remotes out of their hand. Health department has been out here for the rat problem and bed bugs cover all beds. There is no counselor appointed to you or a therapist to talk to. Don't put yourself a family member or friend through this place. When I was tired of being tired Stephouse was there to pick me up (2014). I came from off the streets and stayed with Stephouse for nearly 1 year. I believe you're recovery is your responsibility, and if you want it bad enough, then NO MATTER WHAT, you will stay clean. Stephouse showed me a new way of life, love, and responsibility. They introduced me to the rooms of NA/AA. I got a sponsor and the faculty at Stephouse set me up to succeed. I am now working in the treatment field as a counselor so I can give back what was so freely given to me. People will have their opinions wherever you go, but my experience here was one that saved my life. Stephouse will forever be my foundation for the life I am capable of building today. My daughter went to the sober living facility. When we moved in it was not at all like the photos we had seen. We had asked for photos before moving in but did not receive any. After arriving at the place, I immediately knew why. It was 1,000 a month out of pocket and not nice at all. The room that was open for her was dirty, bed was tossed with the last clients bedding, old pack of cigarettes on the floor, old coke can, etc. Had not been cleaned. The floor was spongey like it had water damage. The smoke alarm was having from a wire. There was rotten food in a fridge in garage and it smelled like cat urine for some reason. Needless to say we didn't have any other option for her so she stayed. The roommate was so rude she yelled at me because I parked in the driveway (to move in) and did not say hello or one word to my daughter the whole next 3 weeks. My daughter went from a loving rehab and being sober 6 months to this nightmare and needless to say has since relapsed. There is no house manager and no accountability. When my daughter relapsed I found out and called the facility to ask about her belongings. They didn't even know she wasn't at the house and she had been gone 10 days. I do not recommend. There are much better options. Make sure not to get bait and switched if you go here. Insist on seeing the property first. read more

I was promised a refund. I went to the intake and stupidly paid the $2500 down payment without doing any research. The next day I got a text from Delores stating "you are not a good fit and you should expect a refund within 3 business days". That text was totally random. How was I not a good fit? I needed a rehab just like any other struggling addict!! Apparently someone called asking questions about the facility and their procedures right after my intake and that sketched them out. Goes to show the whole place is a scam. I've asked many questions to multiple rehabs. None of them told me I was not a good fit because I asked questions!.... So very strange. I paid out of pocket and never even got to see the living arrangements. Unfortunately it's been ten days and still no sign of the refund. I will be reporting this to the local government and they will be investigated. PLEASE do more research before getting dooped like I did. Just because we're addicts doesn't mean we should get taken advantage of... and $2500 is NOT some pocket change. I needed that money and unfortunately Entrusted the wrong people. read more

For the first time in 13 years I am truly sober and to be honest if I was in any other place that would probably not be the case. People say that recovery only works when ur ready and that might have been why it worked this time around.. but i cannot deny that stephouse was a HUGE reason why i have finally been able to save so many relationships and turn my life around for the better!!! i had been searching for a nice and reasonably priced rehab for months when i luckily came across stephouse. i spoke to the owner george and staff member eric the day after i called them and they were extremely understanding about my situation. we were able to come up with a payment plan my family was comfortable with and the next six months were as good as it can get in rehab. stephouse is different from most treatment centers; instead of enforcing a strict schedule of AA and groups all day long, they have a more realistic daily regimen. stephouse provides beautiful room and board, assists clients in acquiring EBT/GR etc., have fun group sessions, individual therapy, and AA. joo, the therapist, was able to help me not only with recovery but also life in general. the therapy sessions are not grueling at all unlike at other places. the staff here genuinely care about all clients.on my first day, clinton and eddie took me under their wing and made sure i was comfortable. clinton is the operational manager and alays makes himself available to clients for any reason! eddie and christina are also amazing!!! christina is an ANGEL! she truly understands and cares about her clients, always checking in with us but also giving us space. david is another great staff member, i was able to relate to his experience and learn from him. honestly all of the staff at stephouse made a huge impact on my recovery. there are so many options when it comes to recovery but stephouse is in my opinion, the right one. thank u for everything u guys have done for me, i have been able to stay 6 months clean with ur support. read more

I was a resident in Step House Recovery for 11 months 09/10/15 - 08/2016. l have a little over 20 months sober... Step House helped me get my life back together, they took me in broken, and I discharged with my head lifted high. Thank you to the Staff my Therapist, Sponsor and GOD!!! Life couldn't be better, even though i went through a what could of been fatal, emergency surgery on 2/4/2017, I came out alive and have recovered well. I'll be graduating from Law School to be a Paralegal on 8/11 this year, which is HUGH accomplishment for me. I have a great relationship with my son and family today. Be aware : Step house recovery A Soberliving My name is Michelle I moved into the Sober Living to stay sober David and Clinton lied about everything! George and Eric we have text messages with all proof!! They agreed to give me a downstairs room for $1000 a month. When I arrived they put me in a room upstairs the size of a closet! I don't even think it's a legal bedroom! Within the first month I woke one morning doing good in my recovery and they told me they wanted more money or I had less than 24 hours to leave ! I stated it isn't even the even the end of the "the month yet" The month is not even over my rent had been paid "it's already paid" ! David and Clinton said I can stay if I pay more money or I had less than 24 hours to move out I said let me decide when the month is over "please" they said you have till this evening or you have to move out ! They wanted $700 of more They also claim they have a therapist on the property ,groups every single day and they take you to Meetings seven days a week. Not true at all!! They will also try to get you to see their own doctors and pay cash out of your pocket, even if you have insurance they had me go see one of their doctors and the medication he gave me could of killed me !! I passed out in the kitchen hitting my head and the doctor called George the house manager and the doctor said to George what were you thinking etc This is a very bad place for people trying to get sober!!! David and Clinton are people only out to get your money!! read more

Run as far away as you can from this program, it is the biggest waste of money and is actually counterproductive to recovery. I just got out last week and have more PTSD from this place then I could ever have imagined. Baker house is a Nightmare, we never had food in the food we received was usually expired or expiring the next day, multiple people were let in with drugs and were using drugs while there and let back in after being clogged, two people were arrested in the driveway while I was there and one girl was overdosed on medication and we had to call an ambulance. Let me reiterate this was in 30 days and they obviously don't pre-screen the patients because three males they had let in were absolutely psychotic and went berserk. We had to lock ourselves in the office with all of the knives and sharp objects because the back door had no handle on it to be able to lock the house up. The staff has a bunch of interns who have no clue what they're doing and they just don't care, even a patient who was diabetic often was out of insulin and lancets for his diabetes and they didn't even care when it just required a simple go to the store and pick them up. They will not give you your paperwork so you cannot see all the rules policies and procedures they are breaking by the law and of their own policies. I wrote several letters to the states, to the compliance board, and to my father which two none were ever received the office intercepted them and never sent them out. It's no wonder all the clients there were relapsing over and over, staying sober in that place is near impossible. People there are even drinking hand sanitizer to get through the daily BS there, and staff can't even figure that out. I was the only girl in there with a bunch of men and felt so unsafe it was ridiculous, they never took us out for walks but twice while I was there. You are locked in that house all day long and groups are very short and the topics are very kindergarten and unhelpful, good luck seeing the actual psychologist she is an old marriage counselor Since I left June 18 there have been no new clients and there have been no groceries for the one client that is left And he still is out of insulin almost every time I'm there. I can't say enough about Stephouse and what they have done for my daughter. She had been in and out of programs at home with no success. It got to the point that every day I was wondering if that was the day we would find her dead. She finally went to a rehab for 60 days out of state where she did wonderful. When she completed the program they convinced her to go on to sober living and she chose Stephouse in CA and she LOVES it there. She lives in a beautiful, clean home, she attends AA Meetings, Group and one on one therapy. The staff is awesome and has gone above and beyond to help my child and because of them I now feel like I have my daughter back. Even though she is 3000 miles away from home I would rather have her there happy, clean and sober than home running with the same crowd, doing drugs or even dead. I KNOW she is in very good hands where she is and I can't thank Stephouse enough for everything they have done my child and my family. This place is wonderful especially for being in such a generous position. I have been to a few facilities on my journey to recovery this time around (I'm no treatment hopper just bad luck..with solid landing's closing down unexpectedly I snowballed here luckily!) I'm actually confident I will make it this time around. This place is exactly what you need and more. I am grateful they took me in on short notice, George absolutely does what he can for EVERYONE. Some folks had no insurance and still have all their needs met, this is no halfway house by the way. Nonprofits get a bad wrap when it comes to the judgment but STEPHOUSE is phenomenal and an overachiever amongst the average!!! I wish facilities like this could receive more acknowledgement. Don't be fooled by the glamorous facilities that pull in insurance with greed to drop you off at the next bus station, they are prone to drop you for anything or nothing at all and don't offer the reality assistance and real world guidance that stephouse does. I feel sorry for those who had to go through my experience on the way to recovery this time around.. stephouse is the mother teresa of treatment centers. I see so much beauty in the staff selection, and being a nonprofit it is miraculous how much they offer for the clients involved.
