Naturally, I stopped into Retrofit Records and they immediately sent me here. I said, "Huh, the car stereo place on Monroe?" The gentlemen behind the counter was super friendly. Although curious on how I found out about their secret monopoly of vinyl equipment, he quickly had the replacement needle I was in search of. My first encounter with Stereo Sales started with a trip to the Ford dealer. My fuel pump burnt out and they disconnected my after market sound system because it was being powered by the BCM fuse. They didn't want to hook it back up because the power source being the BCM fuse is what shorted my fuel pump.. in a 2016 vehicle. Stereo Sales charged me $130 to run a new power supply, parts and labor. The work was quick and efficient. About two weeks or do after that, the digital signal procezsor, a JL fix 82, stopped working. An employee from stereo sales told me it would.be $300 for the part and $75 for labor over the phone. I authorized it. I then went to the store to pick up my car and was told $350 for the part and $75 for the labor. I was called a liar when I said I was told $300 on the phone. Then I found out that stereo sales actually installed the system back when the previous owner of my car. So now I learn that I was charged $130 to fix a problem Stereo Sales created... That also caused my fuel pump to die. Admittedly I got angry at this point and raised my voice, but ultimately told them to remove the replacement part after I was called a liar. I paid for the labor since they did have to do work. I called several days later and came to an agreement. I would pay nothing more labor but would pay $300 for the part if they wanted to keep my business. The owner agreed. He said he would have to calibrate it though to make it sound right. I said no, I'm not paying any more than I already have. The system, upon completion sounded like reverb instead of bass, and my highs and mids sounded tinny and had 0 soul to them. I thought my front six speakers were blown. I returned to stereo sales. They agreed to calibrate the digital signal processor because I thought the speakers were blown out. After nearly an hour, my system sounded better but still the front speakers sound hollow and empty. They barely work. The bass still sounds more like noise than actual musical notes. The system used to sound like a choir of angels. Now it sounds like something at a low budget car show. I haven't taken it back to Stereo Sales yet because I refuse to give them anymore money to fix a problem that should have been done right the first time. Even if that means going an hour and a half away to find another JL dealer. read more

Just reading the other reviews about places to get stereos, I decided to give this one a try and give an updated review. This is the nicest stero shop i've been to ever. I shopped around looking at other places, not based on Yelp, and I was not so imporessed. Like Michael W, I did not want to go to Best Buy and invest in something like a new radio for my car. They are not car experts and I'm trying to become a supporter of the local economy. The man who helped me out, i'm not sure of his name (i'm very sorry because you were awesome and very helpful, might hae been Ben, but that also could just be the name of the person who rang up my purchase?) was amazing and did not pressure me at all. To be fair, all I needed to do was switch the radio in my car, but I was super excited with my choice. He explained exactly how to use it and tehre was a sale going on (not unusual here) that gave me a $20 discount ont he radio iteself and then there were no instalation fees. I strolled in their an hour before they were going to close and it took exactly an hour for me to walk in there, select a radio and have it installed. Everyone was very professional and helpful. They also offered to help me out with another cosmetic issue in my car for a minimal price. I was very impressed and if I ever decide that I need something done with my car speakers or stereo in the future, with no hesitation I will be making the trek back here to get helpful and friendly assistance. read more

Excellent technicians. The guy that worked on my car did a very good job of planning out the locations, installation, putting my car back together and spent a long time tuning everything to make for a great setup. Let it be known that this was not some tricked out system--I invested around $400 in a sub-woofer, amp and new door speakers. The result is absolutely amazing. My only complaint would be the waiting area. Filled with sofas taking off the street. Kind of gross and the folks waiting around taking all of the places to sit didn't seem to be having a car worked on. It's all good. Good 'normal' guys; sold me a good setup at a reasonable price. Wish I could give 0 stars!!! Came in here 5 times. 1st time had my amp removed then came back 2nd time to have installation done in a new car with same amp. Amp now doesn't work after the owner the old guy removed it, was only sitting out of car for maybe 2-3 weeks like maybe. 2nd visit I informed the incompetent no brain guy Travis I wanted installation and amp mounted on back seat in truck. Why the hell did I get to car and it's under my seat like why why why. And now amp doesn't work but of course they did installation and wrong at that. Cursed the guy Travis out and informed them I would be back when I came from out of town. Came back and had them re do installation for the location I wanted it. That was my 3rd visit. 4th visit I came back after I had to purchase a new amp during my lunch break. The guy that did everything wasn't in the shop so then had to come back for a 5th visit. During my 4th visit I had to curse Travis out once again. First off I paid too much for installation, then my amp all of a sudden is going red at the top like wtf and then u put my installation not where I wanted at. The only reason I came back was because the installer I had Brian did a great job and had really great service customer. Whoever the "head" installer is needs some communication skills. Travis stated they were informed by the head installer to put under the seat. I am the customer I am spending my money you put it where I request it at and if you can't do that then give me the option to accept or decline working with you. They dont even deserve one star! My daughter went there to purchase a stereo for her car. The employee locked her keys in her car. She saw the employee trying to break into her car! A locksmith was called and SHE had to pay for it! What a joke of a buiness. read more

They didn't solve the problem I had in a total of about 3 hours. And I paid $200 for an irrelevant part. Went to audio addictions and they solved it in 30 minutes and I only paid $50. read more

This may be the only place local to acquire replacement styli but it should be mentioned what is commonly referred to as new old stock is just that old. The suspension has likely stiffened over the years. Since there seems to be no stock for styli of some carts they will try to sell you an old cart but my major stipulation here is there doesn't seem to be any discussion of compatibility with the tone arm it is to be fitted on and when I asked what the mass of the cart being sold was I didn't get an answer. I suppose we can just forget what the compliance is and pretend there is no resonant frequency. For most people none of this will likely matter but anyone that acquires a mid to high end vintage table fitted with a high end cart these things will matter. Word to the wise Soundsmith can retip and repair the cantilever for virtually any cart and Jico is making new styli for a large number of vintage carts. read more
