Great store, great staff. They have the frames others don't. Their quality is superb! Would recommend to anyone in the area!

I rarely do online reviews but feel I need to do it this time---so that the other people might be able to benefit from my experience and stay away from this store. The customer services at this store deserves a "Zero star". I put down one star because the eye doctor was nice. I got a pair of prescription eye glasses with a Maui Jim frame from the store last year. Seven month later, the outside paint from both legs pilled off. I went back to the store, hoping to fix the problem. The woman, who seemed to be in charge at the store was rude and impatience. Below were what she did: 1. First she told me this was " normal wear and tear" and was not covered under the warranty. 2. After I convinced her that this was not "Normal" for a seven month old frame, She told me that I "can only use the warranty once" and asked me if I wanted to use the warranty on this "minor thing" considering the fact that I would not be able to file a warranty request again for possible " more serious problems" in the future. 3. After I told her Yes I want to use the "only once warranty ", she told me that I need to contact Maui Jim by myself and Sterling optical would be able to help me! It turned out that all she mentioned were not true. I contacted Maui Jim and was told this type of problem was 'defiantly under warranty". MJ wouldn't deal with purchaser directly for glasses with prescription lens and all I need to do was to visit one of their authorized dealers and they would handle it for me. I went to Northern Virginia Doctors of Optometry the other day, a nice lady name Pam helped me out by contacting Maui Jim and ordering new parts. The whole problem was resolved within less than 10 minutes. Although I did not purchase the frame from them, Pam handled everything professionally and efficiently with no questions asked. I am not so sure what is wrong with the Sterling optical staff but I am pretty sure treating custom dishonestly and rudely is not the correct way of doing business. Custom will make their choice to stay away from this store. Hope my own experience can provide some useful information. read more

Horrible service. BUYER BEWARE. It took FOUR MONTHS to get my contacts. When calling about the status of my order I was told repeatedly that they would "look into it" and call me back. Apparently my order was never made or it was lost- I never got a clear answer on why it took four months. This is the second time that I had problems with this store. Last year, I tried for SIX MONTHS to get my contacts. I finally gave up, and took a store credit. The store has a NO REFUND POLICY, and the Sterling Optical Corporate Consumer Service department won't help you if you have problems with your order because this store is franchised-owned and not corporate-owned. Wish Yelp would have a 0 star option as this is what I would give this place! Things didn't start off good which should have a good indicator that I should've gotten out of there. I walked in and nowhere was an employee to be found. Come to find out that the reason I couldn't find an employee was because she was busy playing on her computer? After finally getting her attention, I felt like she was upset because I took her away from her computer. Now, let me say her knowledge is not much better than her attitude. I asked if they could get my glasses ready in an hour, to which she said "yes of course". Once we began the checkout process she then tells me that there is no technician in duty so they would call me once the glasses are done. Seriously, are the employees at this place this incompetent???? Why the FUCK you tell someone they could get it done in an hour if there is no one there that can do the work? So this place is obviously paying this girl to watch movies because she's not doing anything to help customers. Don't bother or waste your time at this place. read more

I just had a wonderful experience with Sterling Optical and Dr. Anthony Kouchak. Patty who works in the Sterling Optical part was so helpful and found me a hard to find frame. She didn't stop until she found them and I couldn't be happier with the new style of frames. Dr. Kouchak was wonderful with the eye exam. He was on time with the appointment and his staff is so helpful!! Hmm, seeing the other reviews, I can only agree with Jessie Z. and Christy Y. My experience with Sterling Optical-- while having a few minor hiccups-- has been overwhelmingly positive. I needed new glasses, chose a frame, and didn't like it by the time it arrived as had chosen too hastily. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful, not to mention patient with me.:) I asked Jeff for his opinion on about 30 different pairs and he assisted me kindly, as did Rachel, and last but not least lovely Juwaun, who dealt with my order mostly. We had most contact with her and Jeff, and both had extensive, impressive knowledge on anything to do with glasses ( how do you clean them when you get pink eye, as an example.) When I changed my mind again, as I was boggled by the many options and knowing nada about glasses, and a hiccup happened when it came to the bill, which is only human, there was good, decent service recovery, which matters a lot to me. The staff are gems, know their craft very well and we'd come back in a heartbeat when we next need new glasses! Other than professional and courteous, the staff also gave great extra advice, like Juwaun telling us that stronger frames are better as one ages and distracts from sagging skin, which was much appreciated and not something any other glasses store had ever mentioned. Thanks for a really good experience, we hadn't been to an eye doctor and glasses store for 4 years and finally made it and were really glad to land at Sterling Optical this time and will definitely return! read more

I really like this place - especially Dr Kouchak. The service is great. He is the only optometrist I have had who is able to quickly adjust my prescription and be accurate 100% of the time. He doesn't play those "which one is better, 1 or 2" games when the two are the same - people with glasses or contexts know what I mean. In short, he is fast, friendly, and accurate. The worst experience of my life! Very rude, over priced, the staff is so disrespectful. Terrible terrible place. The staff is conceited and act as if my business was burden to them. The three women I had the regret of meeting there had severe attitude problems and were lazy, one made a huffing sound when she had to get up to assist me. I recommend going to lens crafter which is in the same mall, they are more polite and helpful. DO NOT GO TO STERLING OPTICAL in TYSON'S! read more

I have my own eye doctor so I came in with my own prescription. The girl who helped me pick out frames was named Rachel and she did a really good job of finding frames that look good on me! I've only had the frames for a few weeks so I guess I can't speak to their quality yet, but so far so good. read more

Awful! Awful Awful! The optometrist was absolutely rude and condescending. He kept making me refer to him as "doctor" even though he's really not an MD and may not even have a college degree. His billing was very suspect too. My insurance covers an eyeglass prescription, but because he also gave me a contact lens prescription, he charged me $100! Horrible! I left without filling the prescription. I went to Lens Crafters, a floor below, and was treated professionally and incurred no hidden charges. read more

Terrible service. Stay away! I spent over $500 on glasses and lost them on vacation. When I called to get the Rx so that I could get an emergency pair I was told by the manager that that was not their job and I should call the optometrist. read more

Avoid! Avoid! Avoid! I dealt with the owner over the phone regarding an order that was placed for trial contact lenses. Now common sense tells you that it is a TRIAL pair, which means if you try it and it doesn't feel right, work correctly, etc. you certainly aren't going to agree to pay for a supply of lenses (we're talking disposable contact lenses). Well, according to their way of thinking, yes you are! They charge you IN FULL for the cost of the lenses when they should only charge you for the cost of the TRIAL pair. I called to let them know I would not be ordering the lenses as they were uncomfortable and he basically told me that I had committed to purchasing the lenses by ordering the trial pair. Huh? And to make things worse, he hung up on me when I told him that was unacceptable. Thinking maybe my cell phone dropped the call, I called back. Guess what, he was just as rude and nasty, reiterated that he would not refund my money and hung up on me again. Enough of that. I contacted Sterling Optical corporate in New York (evidently stores are franchises), let them know about my horrible experience and supposedly they are issuing a credit to my credit card. As insurance, I have also contacted my credit card company to make them aware of the situation should the credit not come through. I can't emphasize enough to steer clear of this place. Questionable business practices are bad enough, but rude, nasty and lousy customer service BY THE OWNER is downright unacceptable. On the bright side, Dr. Davidson next door is awesome. See him for your eye exam, but take your prescription elsewhere to get filled. read more

I had some problems last year with computer glasses and progressives I had made at this store, but they have new staff there now and they are taking care of the problem. I appreciate their willingness to take responsibility for the issue that I complained about. read more

It took more than 8 weeks and four tries (two weeks per try) plus convincing and help from extremely helpful doctor next door (Dr. Davidson) until they were able to make correct pair of prescription glasses for my wife. I am not complaining about the cost of glasses (Almost $800.00 including the extra visit to Dr.) which I think was reasonable for the quality of lenses and the frame my wife selected but the staff and service is much less when compared to the others specially when you pay top dollar for quality work. This store will not refund your money even when they are at fault. They have no respect for your time. I will not recommend this store if you value your time and like quality work. read more

Seriously. When I gave them my prescription, they said they would send int he order and call as soon as they were ready, at which point they would put the lenses in my glasses in an hour. So, I called back today -- 8 days later -- to find out why I am still waiting, and I hear it takes them 7-10 business days to get the lenses in. I'm trapped because I paid up front, but this is ridiculous. read more

I have been to this Sterling Optical location 3 times and they are always incompetant coupled with extremely rude for no reason. They told me I did not have insurance because I did not have an insurance card for version and I have the insurance number. When they found out I do have insurance, they didn't apologize or anything. I was getting contacts for the first time which they were annoyed at and they called and told me my contacts were ready that I paid for when I got my trial. I went in to pick them up and they were irriatated with me that they could not find them. Then they told me that they had to order them and they were never in the store to begin with. I asked them why they called me then and they were so rude. One woman is more rude than the others and definitely hates life or breathing oxygen, something upsets her for no reason. I asked for a refund and she refused because I used the trial lenses. I offered to pay for those and she still refused. I have to go pick up my lenses in a week which I already paid for and they probably won't be ready. read more

They used to have really good service here. But since the doctor moved out and got replaced, all the staff were replaced, too. And one of them, the receptionist in the clinic, has the worst service, ever. I called day before to set an appointment at 3PM and got in the clinic on time. When I told him I have an appointment, he looked at his system and said my name was not there. The other employee, the person I spoke with day before to set an appointment confirmed that yes I set an appointment and wrote it on the paper for the receptionist to see. And guess what, i waited 30 mins and waited for further instructions only to be asked to sit because he needed to entertain other walk in guests as I was standing in front of his desk expecting I would be entertained considering my appointment at 3PM. Finally he said there are other guests before me and I needed to wait 40-45 mins. At first I didn't mind and filled in the form (again) but it has been forever since I submitted my paper it was just sitting there. So I tried to talk to him again after his chitchat with one other customer (since they speak the same language) and reminded him that my appointment was 3PM. He just said, you are not in the system, sir. I could show you my screen. Somebody else set your appointment, but it wasn't me. So I am sorry you have to wait. But I am not sorry. Because that person should be sorry. So I just took my paper (since all my info was there) and walked away. Worst service I experienced. Ever. So guys, you've been warned. read more

i went to get my eyes checked last week and the doctor was very helpful and knowledgeable,My complaint stems from the optical where i was called and told my lenses came in from my insurance that covered them but i had my own frames.A young man by the name of Carlo assisted me, from the moment he was talking to me it sounded like he didnt know what he was doing. i questioned him on things and he didnt know which i found odd since he said he was the manager.As i was looking at other glasses even though i had my own frame he wasnt assisting me and seemed like he was more worried about his cell phone and whatever gossip because he was laughing loud.At that point i let him know i would be using my own frames and that i didnt see any frames i liked. i felt like he didnt care since i told him i had my own frames .he was sitting down and on his cell phone i asked if i should leave the frames and he said that that someone will call when the lenses come in and i asked if we can place this order and he stated that he would take care of everything and that i wouldnt need to leave frame which i thought was not using common sense since i only wanted to return to pick up glasses not come drop frames and then come back to pick up glasses.When i got in today after i got called that my lenses were in i came in and a lady helped me and couldnt find me in the system and the guy on the doctor side and the guy with a lab coat was trying to figure out what was going on they were all nice trying to help me till i said i dont understand whats going on Carlo the manager was taking care of everything. Of couse my instincts were right that this guy didnt know what he was doing last week and he wasnt even there today. the staff and the person at doctors office was real nice and apologized for the error and in the end i got my glasses done but the situation upset me that the manager didnt do his job correctly and what made it worse i found out Carlo wasnt the manager. Everyone was nice and helpful but i will never ask this so called manager again to help me again. read more
