Steve Ko is a gem! My review is from the perspective of a figure model. Steve has an amazing, fun, funny, warm, and respectful personality. He's just super friendly and an awesome guy! It's been almost 15 years since I've taken any sort of drawing or art class, but listening to his direction and guidance to his students for two hours while I pose truly makes me feel like I can go home after the class and draw something myself. The way he explains his techniques during his demonstration makes me feel like I can see what he's drawing even though the board is facing his students, not me. Steve is encouraging and helpful to all of his students. He has positive yet honest feedback for everyone. He makes it known if you're doing great while also kindly offering some guidance on how it can be even greater. The way Steve teaches is really incredible. I am a trainer for new employees at my full time job and he inspires me in my own teaching! Also, the facility is great. A big, bright, and spacious room with paintings, drawings, and sketches beautifully displayed on the walls for inspiration! read more

I attended oil painting classes at Steve Ko Art Studio from the beginning of my freshman year till my senior year. Not only is Mr. Steve an amazing teacher and a recognized portrait artist but he is also just an awesome person with an uplifting spirit and great wisdom. I always had his class to look forward to after school, and his classes led me to grow artistically and as a young woman wanting to pursue big dreams! During my senior year, I was accepted to schools like Columbia (with a likely letter), University of Pennsylvania, and Rice, and I know without question that my supplemental portfolio that I built with Mr. Steve was truly a cornerstone to those acceptances. Even my region's Columbia admissions officer included in her hand-written letter that they were blown away by the supplement! He's incredibly dedicated, especially when it comes to helping high school seniors prepare their portfolios, even for students not applying as art majors. Steve took an active and thoughtful role in guiding my daughter through the application process and his support made a real difference. I only took one year of art lessons with Steve in my senior year of high school, and it was one of the most memorable and best learning experiences I've had.
