I made an appointment with Dr. Goodman for a root canal. When I arrived at the office I was the only one in the waiting room and they took me back right away. As soon as I got in the room the hygienist informed me that my insurance was not accepted, even after I had called the previous day to make sure it was, and that Dr. Goodman would be in to talk to me about the cost without insurance. Although I knew it would not be affordable I figured I would still hear him out. Dr. Goodman came in and began asking about my problem. Before answering I told him that apparently my insurance was not accepted. He said "we'll get to that". Then he began a 20 minute lecture about how if I want quality care done by quality people that I need to pay the money no matter the insurance. He told me that every dentist under the umbrella of my coverage was terrible at their jobs and that I should not settle for less than great work. After nodding until he stopped preaching he finally took a look at the X-ray I brought with me. He then put his blue gloves on and asked me to open my mouth. He touched my tooth once. He reflected back to the X-ray and told me that it would be a complicated procedure and he wants to refer me to a specialist that he recommends. I was confused because I had made an appointment for a root canal, not for another examination for a problem I already knew about. I then asked if he could do anything for the excruciating pain and he told me he could begin the procedure and take away the pain for 250 dollars. When I said I could not afford that he said "don't you have a credit card". I repeated that I could not afford that and he said "Well, then I'll just charge you with an examination fee for today. 75 dollars.". 75 dollars for this man to lecture me, bash my family dentist and touch my tooth one time. 75 dollars for this man to do zero for me and tell me what I already know. I immediately left the room and told the receptionist how messed up it is to not inform me that I would be charged such a ridiculous amount just for stepping foot in the back room. It is absurd that this excuse for a dentist can talk to me like I'm an idiot, do zero to help, and then rob me. The staff has no regard for feelings and this man just seems to want a big paycheck at the expense of a patients health. I would NEVER recommend Dr. Goodman and I am going to make sure I spread the word about my ridiculous experience in this office. read more

my had some bad dental work done and I was in excruciating pain , I googled Dr. Goodman and although he didn't have a five star rating and I read the reviews. I called him and left a message. Dr. Goodman called me back and I was very impressed with that. I told him I was In A lot of pain and he took me the next morning. His office is nice and his staff was awesome, they made me feel very comfortable. I'm a scaredy cat but Dr. Goodman is really good he knows what he's doing . He was very nice and completely explained what he was doing. He took my pain away , I had an extraction of my wisdom tooth and I barely felt it. If I felt pain he used more Novocaine. Found Dr Goodman on an Internet search for a geriatric dentist. I have a family member with severe dementia that needed a replacement bottom denture. This family member was not very cooperative with the facility dentist who in my opinion had no patience. If you are familiar with dementia you know they can become very agitated very easily. Dr. Goodman was a god send, he has a great bed side manner and with our help was able to get the necessary work done for my family. Originally it was supposed to be over 4 appointments but he was able to complete it in 3 visits. His office staff is also top notch. When I found him on the Internet I sent an email explaining my dilemma. Olivia called me the very next day to say she thought that the doctor would be able to help and arranged my appointment for the next available time. Thanks to Dr. Goodman and his staff my loved one can now enjoy eating normally again and has their new dentures marked with their last name so they can be identified if ever lost again. Honestly, I wasn't expecting much. But after the first visit which was the roughest, I thought there was a chance it would work. Lo and behold, it worked even better than I imagined. My mother made me an appointment here because of a cracked tooth. She was thankful they were able to take me. But she made he appointment for 10 am not knowing I was at work. I received four phone calls from four different numbers three of them which was 718 & one from union New Jersey, I called back the Jersey one first and Dr. Goodman answered and told me how rude and how shameful I was that I wasn't able to call yes I understand calling to cancel and appointment but when other things come up in life people should be understanding. He was so rude and nasty to me and spoke to me like I was garbage I wouldn't recommend anyone go to a man who is so disgustingly nasty over the phone I could only imagine how he is in the office! I acquired Dr. Goodman as my dentist when I acquired my wife. He's a great dentist and I even drive to Staten Island from NJ and pay the $12 toll to see him. That may not sound like much but he must really be good if I am willing to fight the Brooklyn bound traffic to see him. He doesn't participate in Dental Insurance IN-Networks. Claims are paid with your insurance companies out-of-network benefits option. I don't have good dental insurance but go to him because he's worth the extra out of my pocket. Dr. Goodman is, quite simply, the best dentist I have ever met. He not only quickly diagnosed my problem (after being misdisagnosed by my other dentist), but he found a few other potential problems (all viewable on his advanced digital imaging system). He made a quick referral to a root canal specialist for me. End result: After suffering with dental pain for almost a year, I am now completely pain-free. His rates are reasonable; his expertise is invaluable. Moreover, his office is clean; the staff is courteous. I wish I had met him years ago--I would have had fewer problems. read more

Went to Dr. Goodman and thought he was polite and a good dentist. What was not good what his dishonesty. After my visit, I was billed for $150.00 more than what my insurance paid. I called the office and the secretary explained that my insurance didn't fully cover my treatment. I believed her, paid it and moved on. I thought it was weird since I was seeing another dentist for several years, had the same work done, and never was charged extra. I needed to go back for more work on my teeth, and I returned and I explained that I will NOT sit in the chair unless I know what I have to pay BEFORE work is done. (This is what my other dentist did for me, and she worked with me to know the schedule of when I was eligible for certain things such as cleanings or x-rays, and would schedule me accordingly, therefore saving me from extra charges and keeping my dental care on track). The doctor HIMSELF explained to me that he was very sorry about what happened and that it will absolutely not happen again. Well, guess what happened again, but worse this time. I was billed for $348.00. Never have I had to pay a dentist so much money (having my insurance which is GOOD) and I know that this was due to incompetence of the billers he has. I called and spoke to his secretary, and she explained that she was sorry they told me I wouldn't be charged but they made a MISTAKE and I owed that money. I told them I wanted to speak to the doctor because Dr. Goodman himself explained that I would not have to pay anything out of pocket for this procedure. Dr. Goodman was on vacation so I would wait for a call back from him. He didn't call, I forgot about it, and a month later (not 6 months, not 3 months, ONE month later) I checked my credit report and noticed that there was a collection account on my credit report from Dr. Goodman's office. I immediately called the Dr. office and got ahold of the doctor. He informed me that the debt had to be paid and that sometimes his office makes mistakes and it happens all of the time with these insurances. I made a payment plan with the collection agency and I am unwillingly paying the debt for Dr. Goodman's office's incompetence, and his incompetence as well as far as running an office. If your credit score is important to you, then stay as far away from Dr. Goodman's office as possible. There are many other good dentists out there. I went back to my old dentist and things are normal again. read more
