I had to have all my teeth removed from a bone disease. Dr. Kollander has the best bed side manners that I have seen in awhile. I went in for sedation and the staff made me feel so safe. In the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic - Dr. Kollander came in to save the day!! After several traumatic dental experiences throughout my childhood, I have developed severe dental anxiety. I usually can't even get X-rays without shaking/crying just from the thought of the dentist. This lead me to put off dealing with an impacted wisdom tooth for years. I finally reached my breaking point when the impacted tooth broke the one in front of it in half and left the entire nerve exposed. Of course, this had to happen right as the world is suffering from the corona virus and many dental procedures were restricted. I was going to try and wait it out but woke up one day and the pain was more than ibuprofen could handle. After hours of calling and being denied by oral surgeons on account of covid-19 restrictions without anyone even looking at my teeth situation, Dr. Kollander had me in his office for a consultation the same day, and approved an emergency extraction using IV sedation the next day after! I was so relieved to finally put this to rest - but still terrified of the unknown procedure. If you're like me and reading some of these reviews - please don't take the negatives to heart because I have no clue what dentist these people are talking about but it couldn't be Dr. Kollander or anyone of his staff members. I was treated with respect and such warmth - even in the middle of a global health emergency. I felt sorry for putting the workers at risk by coming in to the office, (not that I was showing symptoms - but we really can't be too careful) and not once did they make me feel sorry. They were professional courteous and polite the whole way through. Dr. Kollander explained the procedure prior to starting and answered all questions I had. This was by far the most extensive work I've had done in one sitting - two extractions right next to each other - yet it was the most comfortable I've ever been at the dentist. I did not feel a THING during the procedure, and here I am the next day with minimal pain, just some soreness. I highly recommend Dr. Kollander and his staff for anyone in need of some serious dental work with anxiety like mine. I was even shaking before the IV was in and the wonderful assistant was so empathetic and really made me at ease. I am so grateful to have found this place - especially during this crazy time in the world, as it was really hard to even find anyone to look at my teeth! I recently visited Dr. Kollander for an extraction of a lower wisdom tooth that was giving me fits. From the moment I sat in his dental chair Dr. K put my mind at ease and assuaged all the worries swirling around my head. Once the local anesthetic kicked in Dr. K went to work and when he stopped I braced for more extraction fun...NOPE, he was done!! From the second he began to the moment he was holding my decayed wisdom tooth in his blue latex-clad hand was no more than 90 seconds. I have had routine fillings that took longer. I cannot stress just how quick and painless the entire extraction process was!! I would strongly recommend Dr. K to anyone in need of oral surgery, he is a consummate professional and the women working in his office (i'm looking at you Jackie!!) make the experience pain free in every sense. read more

Went to see Dr. Kollander off of a recommendation from my main dentist. I have two wisdom teeth that have been giving me problems. It would have been my first time undergoing an oral surgery. So as you can imagine I was nervous and Dr. Kollander's bedside manners did not help it at all. First of all, he entered the room didn't greet my husband or I. Went straight to talking about my X-ray, his waiting room was filled, I felt as if I was being rushed and then to make the situation worse he insisted on me getting all 4 of my wisdom tooth's removed at once and when I asked him if I could do one or two at a time he stated, not with me! Maybe with another dentist. So rude! Then he stated he will call me the next day to schedule and I still haven't heard from his office. Thankfully, I've found a fantastic dentist and don't need his services anymore. read more

If I could give this place a 0 star review, then I would. I came here to get all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed and one tooth was completely sideways. I had Dr. Kollandar and he was HORRIBLE AND VERY RUDE. He removed 3 of my wisdom teeth fast but when it came to the sideways one he had to drill it out. A few months later, I started feeling pain whenever I ate where the sideways tooth was. When I put my finger back there and checked with a light I saw and felt a piece of my tooth still there. I went back to him and told him that there was still a piece of tooth left and asked him if he could check and he seemed upset and confused that I told him there was a piece of tooth left. He made it seem as if I was overreacting and asked if I was even feeling a lot of pain back there and told me that it was bone and not a piece of tooth. He told me if I was really feeling pain then he would just "DRILL THE BONE DOWN" and immediately started to recline the chair. I told him I needed to think about it and had to make a quick phone call to my father for his opinion because I knew for a fact that it wasn't bone. I could tell he got annoyed when I told him that I needed to make a phone call first so he just left the room and told me to let him know when I was ready. When I called him back In the room and told him my dad wanted to just ask him a question he got upset and told me"YOUR NOT A LITTLE GIRL YOU CAN SPEAK FOR YOURSELF. TELL YOUR DAD IF HE WANTS TO SPEAK TO ME HE HAS TO COME IN. ITS JUST BONE, IF YOU WANT ME TO DRILL IT DOWN I CAN" then he walked away. When he came back in the room I asked him if he was sure that it's just bone and he told me "IVE BEEN DOING THIS JOB FOR YEARS, IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, ITS NOT A TOOTH, I REMOVED THE WHOLE TOOTH". He didn't even do an X-ray to see if it was tooth or not, he just put his finger in my mouth and felt the area and assumed it was bone. So I went to a different dentist to get a second opinion and it turned out to be a big piece of tooth that he left in. I had to go through all that pain all over again to get it removed. DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST, THEY CLEARLY DONT DO THEIR JOB!!!!! (AND OF COURSE HES GOING TO ACT LIKE HE DOESN'T KNOW WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT) read more

I got 3 of my wisdom teeth extracted by Dr Kollander yesterday. I didn't want to write a review so soon- but I am so impressed I can't even help it. First of all, he is a VERY calming very sweet person. Second of all, he pulled all three in under 3-4 minutes- I felt NOTHING. Then he told me I probably won't even need the pain killers. After numbness was gone, I kept waiting for pain to kick in, but there was barely any. Finally when I woke up this morning, it feels like NOTHING happened.. I mean seriously- that is so impressive! Dr. Kollander is the absolute WORST. I am sorry that I was ever even referred to him. He refused to pull my daughters wisdom tooth (which got approved) b/c they wouldn't approve the other 3 that needed to be pulled, b/c he was billing for more work then what needed to be done. Absolute worst service ever. I called to confirm my appointment time and the receptionist said she was too busy told me to call later (it shouldn't take more than 30 seconds to look that up, plus let's not forget that is your job!) So I call back later, with an attitude I got the information I needed. I then ask if authorization was obtained for the procedure and she couldn't answer that either I basically was told how come I don't know . (Bec I don't work there ) so after coming here many years and getting below average treatment by staff (the dr is amazing) I cancelled the appt. went with Kalman on woodhaven and don't regret it his office gets an all around 10/10!! read more

Dr. Kollander is great. The office is very busy and hectic, but he is well worth it. I was referred to Dr. Kollander by my general dentist. They got me in within a couple of days to get an impacted wisdom tooth out. The process of the tooth pulling lasted all of 20 minutes, included waiting for my mouth to be numb. My tooth healed with no problems at all, and the medication he prescribed left me in no pain. I love him! read more

At the beginning of May, the office called me and said they were starting to take patients again because the rate of COVID-19 was slowing down. When I went in for my appointment, I had to wait about an hour because there was an emergency surgery before another patient and I (a heads up before coming in would have been nice though from the front desk). Dr. Kollander extracted all 4 of my wisdom teeth in about 45 minutes with pretty much no pain! He was whistling throughout the whole thing, which put me at ease. He numbed my mouth and once it was numb, I pretty much felt no pain! He was very gentle with the injection of the anesthesia as well. One of my teeth was very impacted, so that one started to hurt a little bit and the anesthesia didn't work on that tooth. Dr. Kollander had to leave a small piece of the root behind, but I didn't mind. The dental assistant was very sweet and called me the next day to see how I was feeling. I went back for a post-op two weeks later and when I got to the office, the front desk told me he's not in that day (when I already scheduled an appointment). They claim they forgot to call me. So I went in the next day for a 5 minute post op visit and Dr. Kollander said everything has healed nicely. He did a great job with removing all my wisdom teeth at once. I would highly recommend Dr. Kollander for any oral surgery you need. Just make sure, you stay on top with the front desk. I would recommend calling the office the day before your appointment to confirm. read more

I had four wisdom teeth removed all at once this past summer in this office and did not experience any pain during it and minimum pain afterwards. I was explained what I should feel after the procedure and how to reduce the swelling and avoid any kind of infection. I was scared out of my mind going in and shaking and thanks to the staff there, I was able to relax and went through the procedure. I was so afraid to get my wisdom teeth (all 4) extracted, especially since 2 of them were impacted and I've had some horrible dental experiences. Dr. Kollander was very gentle and explained everything he was doing. This made me feel very at ease. The medical assistant was also super nice and patient with me. I needed to get my molar extracted and decided to go here. Let me just say it was a complete waste of time. They stated they sent the authorization form electronically to the insurance and I needed to wait about 3 days. After patiently waiting the insurance stated they have not received the form and it should not have taken more than 72 hours especially if its electronically. I followed up with staff which was very friendly, however did not call back when they said they would. (Try to take away a tooth pain with kindness). Then Dr. Kollander stated he will resend the form and I kept waiting, and of course there was still no form a few weeks later..... Long story short it took them 27 days to get back to me to let me know I was approved by the insurance. Meanwhile, I went to another oral surgeon and went through the whole consultation appointment, insurance approval and molar extraction all within 4 business days. Regardless how much they tried to blame the insurance the pieces of the puzzles were not connecting. As a doctor your priority should be patient care. Dr. Kollander seemed in a rush and agitated when I questioned the authorization form submitting process. The other oral surgeon I went to explained thoroughly the whole molar extraction and was open to questions. I actually felt comfortable. I would never go back to this office again unless I wanted to intentionally waste time in my life. read more

First of all, the receptionist, Evelyn, was really nice setting up the appointment for me. I had an appointment as soon as possible. I went in not really prepared to get teeth pulled but Dr. Kollander convinced me that it would be quick and painless but of course I can wait for another day so I could be mentally prepared. So I took his word for it and I am so glad that I did. The numbing process was smooth (and fun haha) and when it came to pulling teeth both he and his assistant did well in making me feel comfortable. Before I knew it, 5 teeth were gone and I hadn't felt a thing. I was outta there in a good amount of time with my prescriptios and gauze and was sent on home to heal. Pain subsided quickly and I was 100% better in about a week. I would definitely reccommend Dr. Kollander for an amazing dental experience. read more

I'll start by saying I never leave reviews on anything or anyone but I had to for Dr. Kollander. I went in for a consultation for an impacted wisdom tooth extraction, fast forward to today and I could not be more pleased. I was taken into the room right on schedule. I was 100% terrified going in because I was afraid of the procedure but Dr. Kollander assured me time and time again that everything would be alright and that I'd feel no pain. He calmed my nerves from the second he walked in the door and I immediately unclenched my fists. Talked me thru the entire procedure, I personally loved this, I'm curious and ask a lot of questions and he was VERY comforting. He and his "mini-me" Farrah worked so well together, they made a great team and ironically made me laugh during my procedure. I've had 2 separate extractions done before and I have to say Dr. Kollander is hands down the best oral surgeon I have ever experienced. I must give credit where it's due. He made it so painless that I wouldn't mind going back for another surgery but he removed my last one I recommend him 100% read more

first i have to start by saying i have super anxiety and i was very clear about this. steven kollander was super rude his bed side manner is horrible he acts as if he is gods gift to dentistry. first he numbs one side but puts an ejection on the other side that's not numb i freak out and he stops and asked me to leave and go somewhere else. i left given no choice with my whole right side numb. i would never recommend anyone here. lucky i was able to be seen at wycoff dental emergency and they were so patient and understanding and i was able to get my wisdom tooth pulled they are the real MVP read more

Had my wisdom teeth pulled and didn't feel a thing!! Went to work the next day too. Dr. Kollander walked me through the entire process and made sure I was comfortable. I had very little swelling and of course there was pain after and still have some pain but that's normal. The receptionist even called to see how I'm doing the next day! Went in for a "consultation" and wasn't even seen due to them already having my x rays from 2016. Literally handed in my referral and the front desk said the authorization decision would be available within two weeks. Waited three weeks only to find out that Dr. Kollander mistakenly sent only one authorization request for one wisdom tooth when my referral clearly stated two wisdom teeth needed to be extracted. Very poor attention to detail or intentional act? Who knows. Not to mention the careless act of not adding notes specifying the conditions of my wisdom teeth (pain, swelling, decay) etc. So he sends in my x rays from 2016 and doesn't add any notes about the present conditions (obviously my wisdom teeth have become much worse since 2016). When I called the office the receptionist tells me "the doctor said if you want to see him as a private dentist the procedure would be $600." At this point I'm just done. This Dr came highly recommended. Unfortunately, it was the worst dental experience I've ever had!!!!! I do not recommend going to this office at all. Not professional AT ALL! I was told my procedure would be $1,500 even though I had dental coverage. I called my insurance carrier and was advised that my cost shouldn't exceed $400. When I approached the situation they told me "we charge you $1200". I whipped out the price sheet from my insurance company and a few minutes later they reduced the price to $744. Go figure!! At this point I just wanted my teeth out so I said f*ck it. They took me into the room and prepped me. The doctor walks in and he seemed a bit agitated. After poking me more than 7 times he tells me I can't find your veins. This is the first doctor to tell me that. I have never had a problem before. Maybe if he would have listened to me he would have. Then he tells me he will just give me a local for the same price...are you kidding me?? I told him to forget it that I will go elsewhere. He tells me he's the best anesthesiologist, grabs my file, and storms out of the room. If you were the best you would have got my vein on the first shot like the other doctors and nurses have!!
