I was a patient with Dr. Fehrenkamp beginning in 1993 until he retired decades later. After living with Type 1 diabetes for 31 years now, I have to credit Dr. Fehrenkamp for me not having any diabetic complications! I'm shocked at the low rating he has here on Yelp. He knows his stuff better than any other endo I have since worked with. He's very direct and I guess some people are too sensitive to deal with hearing the truth. But that's just one of the many things I have always respected about Dr. Fehrenkamp. His wife, Lisa, worked the front desk and I also think the world of her. They made a great team, had a wonderful caring staff, and, on the rare occasion I had an emergency and needed to see him quickly, they would go out of their way to find a way to make that happen. I miss having Dr. Fehrenkamp as my endo and will be forever grateful to him for his decades as a truly dedicated and outstanding physician! read more

I was talking about (which you'd think a doctor would understand, but not only is she not the doctor, plenty of MD's I've spoken to before about treatments I've had have responded with. "I see." or "Really." or "Huh. That's funny, I never heard of that.") Like Kendra Z, I did not have a lot of chat time with Dr. F, but he did agree with most of what Amy had to say. What n.p. actually confers with, and gets the doc in there with you during the same appointment? NOBODY. THAT'S WHO. Well except Amy and Dr. F. Now I dunno if they're going to be able to fix me or not, but at least it's nice to know there's somebody that actually knows wtf I am talking about (and cares!) - and - can haz genuine medical training and degrees. As the other two reviews have mentioned, Amy is awesome. I was incredibly happy with my care until she was out one day and I had to see Dr. Fehrenkamp. He was rude, abrupt, condescending and did not listen to anything I said. He apparently did not even glance at my chart, judging by some of the questions he asked me. At the end of the very brief visit, when I was near tears and he still had not reviewed my latest test results (the reason for the visit), he walked out on me. He was suggesting I take steroids to treat some symptoms. I expressed concerns about side effects and wondered about treating symptoms rather than the underlying cause. He said "well then, I can't help you" and walked out. read more

Rude & un-professional staff/doctor. I will say that the nurse who took my blood pressure was nice. The rest of staff, including the Doctor, were rude and un-professional. I get that there is sometimes a wait, and that it's difficult to determine availability, however we I expect that this explained at the onset of the appointment... i.e. "the doctor is running behind today..." I expect that a doctor & staff that appreciates/respects my time as much as their own. Some background - Earliest appointment was 4 months out from my referral... I was then asked to arrive 25-30m earlier than appointment, to fill out paperwork that I had filled out previously and printed off for them... I arrived 25m early, I re-formated my paper work, paid, and then waited 20m to get ushered into a room to get my blood pressure taken. I then waited another 20m, at which point the doctor walked, in I said hello, and with no reply he walked right back out of the room, leaving me there another 25m with no communication. At this point I had to leave, having been there over an hour. 15m after I had left (a full hour after my appointment was to start) I received a call asking if I wanted to reschedule my appointment, as I had not showed up. when I explained what had happened, she explained that he's a very busy man. Not worth any amount of money. All he does is throw pills at you for everything. Even pills that haven't hit the market yet. Won't work Medicaid or Medicare. And won't listen to you about what is causing you problems medications wise. On top of that the front desk is snobby and rude on the phone when you try to work with them. Dr Fehrenkamp is very friendly nice he listen and gives perfect ideas and responses to issues. HOWEVER, the receptionist is extremely rude she has no experience in communication. She always show that she is having the worst day. She doesn't smile she speaks in a rood way things like "yes!" "sign here!. " She made me feel very uncomfortable she only smiles when the doctor is there and jokes. She knows how to be friendly and nice but not with customers. If she only has taken one communication class in college she would know that her way of dealing with customers is wrong and that makes them feel uncomfortable she has done that more than one time with different customers. I've been in doctors Fehrenkamp office for 3 times and every time I enter the clinic I feel uncomfortable the way I've been treated from the receptionist. he is a good doc when you have insurance, i lost mine and i got a very terse letter basically dumping me as a patient. extremely terse, i expect to find insurance and work with his practice again but if i do, it won't be with his. Not after this letter. I thought he could wait but i got the letter 2 days after informing them of my situation. This treatment tells me all i need to know about his practice. read more

I am so sorry I didn't check yelp first before choosing to go to this practitioner! I have thyroid issues and recently got new insurance, so I decided to switch to someone in-network. I was asked to show up early despite having already filled out the paperwork. I showed up 20 minutes early, they checked me in in a matter of minutes, and I waited in the waiting area for half an hour before even going back to a room. Once I got in a room, I waited another half hour before I finally started wandering the halls to tell someone I needed to be seen. I eventually saw their PA, Stacy, and she was pleasant and thorough, but not enough to offset the rest of my experience here. There was a dead beetle in the corner of the room, and the whole place seems run-down and dirty. Not what you'd want to find in a doctor's office. The real kicker is that even though my thyroid levels have been stable for years, I still had to have repeat bloodwork 3 months after my initial appointment, and of course go back to the doctor and pay another co-pay. All in all, it would have been cheaper to stay at the doctor I was seeing before. And finally, the girl who answers the phone and checks you in for your appointment is rude, dismissive, and unhelpful - one of these people who acts like giving you basic information is extremely taxing to her, even though it is her job to do so. Why people who have no interest in being professional and kind go into a helping profession is beyond me. Once I am approved for a year's worth of medication, the search for another doctor begins. I wish I could actually give a review of the Doctor himself. I can't. I've been working 3 weeks to get in past the front office and don't seem to be much closer. Staff have stringent rules for whether you can be seen based on providing X, Y, Z BY the prior Doctor referring you. BUT, when you do provide, which my other doctors staff did religiously 3 TIMES IN A ROW, they can't seem to find the fax. "oh, they are all brought up to me but I don't see anything in there for you". "Really, because they got a receipt confirmation. Twice." Don't dare ask them to speak to the other doctors office directly about why they can't seem to receive a simple fax. "WE CAN'T DO THAT. YOU HAVE TO REQUEST." "But I did request, they know I'm trying to get the records to you." Of course their response is total BS. And do they operate with some sort of modern methods? Like E-Faxing or receiving via email where it's tougher for them to say it got lost? No. Or if they do, that access is tightly controlled as well. Then, do they actually call to make an appointment (which is already booked 4 months out) after the other doctors nurse has called, faxed, stayed on the phone, and confirmed? No. I don't know what my primary care doctor at ARC was thinking sending me to this clinic. I need one that sees patients and actually cares. If for some odd reason I do end up seeing Dr. Fehrenkamp, I'll update this review. I'm not holding my breath. read more

Can rarely get a telephone call answered. Their fax machine is obviously collecting a bit of dust from my Pharmacy faxing, faxing and faxing again. Again communication is horrible. Can't get my prescription for insulin filled. What is one to do now without insulin -_- read more

Dr F is amazing. I have been a diabetic since childhood (for 26 years now). He has been the only doctor during my adult years whom I have felt tlike knows more about how to care for my disease than I do! He has helped me through 2 pregnancies and I have 2 beautiful children who arrived safely and I was healthy and safe to care for them, and I could NEVER have had this amazing blessing without Dr. F. He always takes so much time with me and cares about me as a person and a patient. Please trust me, if you are a diabetic, Dr F is definitely who you want to care for you! read more

Best endocrinologist evar! I started going in the late 90s when Dr Wenzel was his partner, but was moved over when Dr w retired. Sooo happy that happened. I can see Dr W getting complaints for eudeness since he was a typical Jersey boy, but not Dr. F. He is down to Earth, a straight shooter, and never talks down to me. Nor is he afraid to admit when you ask him a question that's 'outside his wheelhouse'. I've been a Type 1 Diabetic since the 80s, and saw him exclusively til I got my kidney/pancreas transplant, and now I see Amy, but I still asked them to keep an eye on the 'new' pancreas since the transplant folks only seem to watch the kidney. Sometimes the wait to see the practitioners is long, but based on how much time and attention they give me, I know they're running late because they're doing the same for their other patients. I cannot recommend him highly enough. read more

I'm baffled by all of the negative reviews. I've been a patient of Dr. Fehrenkamp for 30 years. He is knowledgeable and caring. He always spends plenty of time with me. He was there for the birth of both my children and always makes sure to ask about them. He never tells me that I HAVE to do something. Instead, he asks me how I feel about it...like when I went from one daily injection of insulin to two...and then to three...and then to the pump. He's very up to date on all the latest treatments for diabetes and explains them in a way that I can understand. He always returns my calls and, on occasion, has called me as late as 7:00 or 8:00 st night with lab results. I highly recommend Dr. Fehrenkamp! read more

AVOID THIS OFFICE AT ALL COSTS!! Never got to meet the Dr. personally but his office staff anf what the "say" he told them to tell me when making my new patient appointment were HORRIBLE. and FALSE. At 27 weeks pregnant they told me the thyroid meds I as currently on Nature Throid - from previous Dr- would NOT be continued my Dr F if I became a pt of his because "of the implications that drug had on causing defects in my unborn babys heart" WHAT!!! FREAKED out as you imagine I called 4 other Endocrinology offices, my OB, my midwife and 3 doulas!!! ALL said what I was currently taking is a class A drug and safe during pregnancy. I got online did my own research and found that to be true. On webMD Synthroid and Nature Throid are stated to have the same RARE side effects, but the benefits are far worth it. This QUACK of a Dr either isnt familiar with Nature throid or doesn't get paid as much from their company when he gives it to his patients. I'm not sure which is correct but either way I urge you to avoid any Drs office who chooses to use SCARE tactics vs facts and honesty!! read more

Dr. Fehrenkamp has treated me for Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years. I was diagnosed in 1960, and I do not have any of the complications that so many diabetics have. At each appointment, he remembers and asks about my family, then checks to be sure I am up to date on other doctor exams and checks my labs for anything unusual. My drive from Cedar Park to FAR south Austin is worth it because I know I'm going going to get the BEST care! read more

I was extremely happy with my experience with Dr. Steven Fehrenkamp. I was first examined by Stacy, his PA and she was very knowledgeable, more so that the Internist that I was seeing for my Hypothyroidism. Since moving here to Texas in 2004, Stacy gave me the best examination I have ever had. She was in no hurry and made sure even though I had given all my medical history on the new patient form, she went over all that once again. with me. I knew that something was not right with the way I was feeling. She looked at my lab work and confirmed that there was indeed a mistake. Dr. Fehrenkamp then came in to introduce himself to me and after talking to him I knew that I had found the right Endocrinologist and PA to take care of me. The office staff and office manager were all very pleasant, helpful and professional. I am so glad that I found a great Endocrinologist, PA and office staff. This is very hard to find these days. Dr. Fehrenkamp is the worst Endo in the city. He changed my wife's calcium med to a higher dose just from saying she has been low for a while. Well a few weeks later she is in the ER with a very dangerous calcium level and almost in a coma. The ER doctor paged & called him on Saturday night and Dr. Fehrenkamp just never called. Dr. Fehrenkamp did not ever call and we were in the hospital until Monday afternoon. When my wife called Dr. F on Monday they said they never received a call or page. Sort of funny when my wife gave the ER Dr the same number she calls Dr. F on??? When my wife did speak with admin at Dr. F's they were rude and said they never received a call. Even after all that, Dr. F never called to see if his patient was ok or allright or anything. He did nothing. The admin staff was rude and short on the phone too. He has a few good Physician's Assistants and Nurses, that is about the only good thing. The rest of his staff has the bedside manor of a pimp. Do not go to this Dr. read more

I have been a patient with this office for a long time. A pretty low key patient, I just want to be seen, get my meds and be on my way. I am not looking for a best friend, just want some common courtesy. The nurse practioner, Amy, has always been helpful. Dr. Ferehnkamp is just there to do his job and probably is clueless as to how his staff treats his patients. I needed a lab slip faxed to a lab facility I was using, not CPL, they were not sure they could that. Then when they did "get approval" they claimed that when they have faxed things to San Marcos before for some reason they did not go thru. WHAT??? In the time of iPods and cloud, you can't get a fax to a town 30 miles from you. Then they proceed to tell me that if the lab request is not there when I go, then I will have to drive to their office to pick it up. If they are contracted with a certain place then say that, if you are getting ready to close (which is what happened when I tried to call back) then say that, don't just make stuff up. I am extremely disappointed in their unwillingness to help me, wanting me to spend more gas just to pick up a lab request. Not even a pinch of helpfulness just excuses. This is not the first time they have treated me this way. I will be changing doctors. This is an update. The fax did make it to the lab I was going to. That was a happy ending to a very frustrating situation. Decide what you will from this post, but I am still changing docs. I am hoping to find a staff with a little more helpful spirit. read more

I give a 4 and not a 5 ONLY because of how long it takes to be seen. That being said...I LOVE Amy Esqueda...she is the best! I prefer to see her when I am there, but have no issues with Dr. Fehrenkamp or Stacey Williamson, as both are excellent. I was surprised to see the reviews stating Dr. Fehrenkamp was rude or too busy. I have not had that experience with him. He has always been attentive to me, when I have had him for my appointment. In fact, all three of them are always attentive with me and never rushed my appointment time. I believe it is because of this (never rushing their patients), that they are always running behind. But I hate waiting...so, I began to take only the first appointment of any given day. That way, they could never "get behind" because of previous patients. Works for me. I have never had a negative experience with the front desk ladies or the medical assistants. All have been pleasant, helpful, and professional with me. I definitely encourage all those other reviewers to contact the office manager about their complaints. If you don't get satisfaction with her, then tell whichever physician you work with. For me? My experience has been great and I would (and do) recommend this office to anyone and everyone. read more

This is one of the worst places to see a doctor, starting with his administrative staff, his office mgr., (his wife) and the doctor himself. One of the first things you are told when you call for an appointment, and also when you get there is, Do you want to see the doctor or his nurse practitioner? If you want to see the doctor himself, you are told, the wait will be longer. When I tried to complain about the rude and unprofessional treatment one is greeted with when one calls, I was told that Dr. Fehrenkamp's wife would return my call and address my concerns. She never did. What I did receive was a letter saying that they couldn't treat me - just because I had the audacity to complain about their lack of manners. What is so sad is that I am not the only person that feels this way about this office's staff; I have found out since the last time I was there that this is the norm at this place. read more
