In March I dropped off all of my tax information for personnel and business. A month later I called because I hadn't heard from anyone just to find out my contact person was no longer with them. Very poor follow-up with calls and emails. The day the taxes were due I got a call saying I needed to come in and sign for the taxes and the kicker was they closed at noon on that day, so I had to scramble to get there, it was 10 am. I have two teenaged sons that worked part-time each one had one W-2 and this firm charged me over $200 each to file a 1040EZ form. They did offer to sit down and go over the numbers with me but after they charged such an exorbitant price for my son's taxes I lost all confidence that they had my best interest in mind. read more

I'm still in complete shock of what they charged me to do my taxes this year!! My total was $1,300+ and they gave me a 20% discount so it ended up being $1,096!! I've been a client for years--they changed their fee structure without warning or informing past clients--said nothing during my first appointment and I signed my agreement like usual. It's always been a flat fee of about $450 per return and now it's just 'whatever they feel like charging you based on ???. Our tax return was not really complicated--both my husband and I work and we have no rental properties, no business anymore--(no business income this year)...just a pretty normal return. And they deemed my taxes were were so complicated it was $1300??? I truly don't get it! After they had done my taxes I saw the bill and was completely floored!! I was so shocked I could barely say anything. I managed to say "oh wait I thought you had a flat fee...she said "no we went with the Covid thing, prices are increasing and we were understaffed and the accountants we have charge a lot." SHOULDN'T I HAVE BEEN MADE AWARE OF THAT???? (I didn't say that cause I was in shock)--She said "oh well it looks like you paid $800 the last time." I didn't think to say it at the time but YES we did pay $800 when we filed 2 returns because we filed married but separately. And now it's $1100 for one!!???? WTH!!!??? TRIPLE!! 3X I was so livid!! And our total return is $2000 and they are taking HALF! They explained their price change at the very end, after they did the work and said "well we take credit card!" Completely shady!!! Worst customer service ever. Do you expect better service when they charge almost twice as much as anybody else. Do you have an appointment to drop off your documents and the second appointment you should meet with your tax preparer. A W-2 was lost either by us or them in and at our second meeting the lady couldn't even explain our taxes to us. In the past, I have always used H&R Block, but 2 years ago, I made the switch to a CPA firm thinking I was going to get possibly more expert advice to decrease my taxable liability. First, my best interested was NOT considered as expenses were not placed in the place where they would benefit me the most. The lady I picked up my taxes from did not explain anything, but simply said 'compare it to last year' when I asked "why I have differences". No mention of penalty was given when I picked up this year's taxes until I found it on the 1040. They never mentioned of how I can avoid a penalty next year Last year, I had my taxes done by them too and my 'extra income' was placed on line 21. Same income as this year, but it was added to a schedule C this year. When I questioned it, I was told that last year's form was done incorrectly and should have been done using schedule C instead of putting the income my form 1099-Misc on line 21. So now, I may have MORE penalties and owe more taxes for last year! So, they did my taxes for the last 2 years and both returns were wrong! read more

Both times I've gone into this office, I felt like they really weren't listening to what we had to say. The first time they wanted us to just hand over our paperwork and didn't explain anything to us at all. The second time, they pretended to listen but the notes being written were not what we were saying. They also misplaced our last years tax returns and filed the complete opposite of what we had explained that we needed. Not to mention overpriced!!!!!!! We will most definitely be going somewhere else next year. Where do I start? Like most of the other negative reviews I was very displeased with the service that was provided to my wife and I. This was our second year trusting the Vogt group and I should have trusted my gut and went somewhere else. Last year we were promised that Steve would call us after tax season to help us reduce the amount we owe every year. That call never came, even after I called them as a reminder. They promised to call us in a week or two as they were still busy with everyone's taxes. No call was ever made to us. This year the service was so bad. Our first visit we meet with a CPA to review our documentation. We were given a list of what we were missing. We met a second time to hand over the rest of our documents. This was with a different CPA. We had to explain ourselves all over again. On our third visit we were to pick up our taxes and sign. Lucky for my wife and I, I asked to review the taxes before I left. I noticed that whomever actually did my taxes left some of our charitable deductions off our return. This information I wrote on the paperwork we left originally. Their response was a quick laugh and yep looks like we over looked that. We will add it in and review again. By the way, who's doing the tax return me or the firm I had to pay $296.00 for a simple return. That price was after a 20% discount. So I came back for the forth time and noticed that my annuity was also missing from our tax return. I was told they didn't have the proper form and I needed to produce one for it to be added to our return. I know I left that form with them originally, as it was with my wife's annuity form. I also know that since they didn't ask for it in our first visit the document was there in their hands. There was never an apology that the document was missing, just that I needed to get it to them. After all of that, I was told that I would most likely receive a letter from the IRS if the annuity amount wasn't added. There was no change in what we owed but who whats a letter from the IRS. On the fifth visit I finally had the same CPA and he couldn't remember he told me the IRS would be sending me a letter. What I did get was, "It's ok, the annuity won't change the outcome of your taxes" Also, what's my confidence level when the CPA I'm working with needs to step away to get help on my questions? So after all of that, guess what, they still charged me full price, even after they made a mistake that I had to find. Great customer service right??? I felt like I was taken to the cleaners. I would advise everyone to look elsewhere when it comes to having your taxes prepared. Taxes are very important right. This is why all of us pay specialists to prepare them. This post would've never happened if they sat down and talk to us and reduced the amount of money they charged us. We know everyone makes mistakes but usually if someone does make a mistake especially on your taxes you think they would admit it and give you a break on an already over priced service. read more

This review is solely here to ensure that probable future customers and intrigued current customers do their research on this company and continue to read all reviews from all sites and consider that there are better options. Accountability - Customer Service - and... "Excuses are the nails that built the house of failure" These three words and phrases have been nailed into my head since I started in the industry that I am in and have been in for 26 years. Without customer service and holding yourself accountable to your job description duties and realizing that excuses ARE the nails that will build your house made of failure is very true, but.... That is not trained to the associates at Steven M.Vogt, CPA, EA. I have been coming to Steven Vogt's office since 2008, back when he was in a dingy strip mall behind the bowling alley in Chandler. It was great to watch him grow and become successful. I even had the pleasure of sitting down with his lovely wife Leslie at the Queen Creek office for my 2016 taxes, she was awesome and great to talk to, but, this year I am now finding out some of the tax laws for child dependent care and the way it is being delivered to me by Steven's associates has been handled very poorly. The short story, my ex-wife (who is also a customer of Steven's) and I did not know the details of child dependent care when it comes to divorced parents and... why would we, we aren't tax experts. That is why I hire and pay for the service that I need from Steven's office and his associates. I am being told that this affected my taxes for 2017 and 2016 and I am being told that as of this week. Sadly, the detailed questions that would have been greatly appreciated and received by myself and my ex-wife from the associates that prepared our taxes weren't given to us so there is now a lot of un-needed stress and confusion that honestly... no every day American wants when it comes to the IRS and taxes. The delivery of this information holds 50% of the reason why my ex-wife and I won't be using Steven's office any longer and that delivery was made by Melissa at the front desk at the Chandler office. Hands down the rudest and most unprofessional woman I have ever dealt with. Which is sad because I was interested in setting something up at the Queen Creek office to go over ALL the services that Steven's company could offer me outside of tax preparation. I enjoy and appreciate a one stop shop take on financial services and was looking forward to setting that meeting up soon, but not now. In closing, the issue is being resolved but the issue was presented poorly by Melissa and the fact that I now must go through a paperwork process with the IRS to get resolved to me is not customer service. This company is the worst. No communication what so ever. I cannot recommend them. They LOST our tax returns. Then when we went to go pick them up, they provided us with someone else's returns. They spent about a half hour trying to locate ours. When they finally found them, they never once provided an apology. We paid an astronomical fee for a simple tax return. Then 2 days after they were supposed to be filed, they call us and tell us they filed an extension for us because there was a note on our file to hold for our review, mind you, we were in there a few days earlier before the tax deadline to review and pay for them to be filed. Steer clear of this company. They over charge and are not organized at all. read more

One of the worst experiences we have had with a tax company. They over charge and don't explain anything until its to late. Bad customer service and you have to enter all your info into a computer system so they can just copy and paste it into their forms but they charge WAY more then anyone else just for you to do all the work. IRS sent a letter concerning taxes on 2015 that were filled using Steven M. Vogt, CPA, EA services. On that letter IRS stated that a mistake was committed and needed to pay $8,648 ($1,365 in penalty and $460 interest). Immediately, after receiving the letter, I went and looked the package that the CPA gave us after finishing the process. I detected the possibility of the mistake by finding, in the package given, the amount that IRS was referring. We (my wife and I), contacted the office and gave the information they asked, including the package for 2015 taxes. We also asked for an addendum that my mortgage company sent. It was solved by the CPA office. Problem comes with the IRS letter. After around 15 days and different calls/e-mails, we finally had the appointment. The CPA office asked for an extension for the IRS. The first employee, very kindly, explains the addendum for the mortgage and the final statement for it. When explained the IRS letter and 2015 taxes, she says that the IRS was right (as I noticed when I reviewed in my house) and that they "never received the second W-2" that was in the package. I basically said, "it looks like it was a mistake, and I think you didn't see that second W-2 because it was in the package". She immediately asked if we wanted to talk to the "Director". I refused because I thought she was going to say exactly what the employee was explaining; however, she insisted and called the Director. As suspected, she said exactly the same, inferring that we inserted the "new, not seen W-2". I said, "This is a difficult situation because I had your package and the document was there, but I have no proof, but at the same time you are accusing me of trying to cheat". The proof that the CPA Director had: a) We don't see a staple mark in the new W-2 b) We don't have the document scanned in our system c) The documents are not in the right order in the package Of course! Could it be that you (CPA) didn't see the document, so you didn't staple it, scanned? Could it be that I checked the documents when I received the letter and I didn't know the "right order"? Could you have made a mistake? To me, YES. To the CPA, NO. Again, inferring that I inserted the second W-2 to mislead them, and being dishonest. The Director said, "I am not saying that you are lying". NO she didn't say it, she directly implied it! The only proof, that I had with me, was the time that I and my wife checked the package and saw the second W-2 that the Steven M. Vogt, CPA, EA office missed. The Director did give us a good advice: "call IRS and ask for a "first time penalty....", I don't remember the right term. As courtesy, she said that usually they charge $75 for the addendum but "to keep me happy", she wasn't going to charge the amount. I refused and paid the $75 (my mortgage company assumed the cost and their responsibility on the mistake). To me, the Steven M. Vogt, CPA, EA had different mistakes: a) Not assuming responsibilities for the mistake, or at least, if no real proof was found, try to share the responsibility as I tried to do. To me, the staple, scan or order in the documents are no valid evidences. As my word that I found the document in the package and that you saw there, was no proof for you (CPA). b) Inferring that your customer lied or tried to cheat. I was not arguing about the taxes, I pay all my taxes; it's the right thing to do. I was asking about the penalty and interest that, due to the CPA mistake, I had to pay. Also, I was expecting the CPA to assume responsibility c) Believing that $75 could "keep me happy". Let me explain; $75 don't "keep me happy" when the company that I trust my taxes makes a mistake and don't assume responsibility. $75 doesn't compensate the penalty and interest. $75 don't "make me happy" when you are inferring that I am dishonest and doubting my integrity as a person. A different picture, take a look (I think the CPA should have done this): a) CPA: Dr. Rodriguez, we detected a mistake and we really can't say that it was our mistake or it was yours for not giving the second W-2. We believe that you didn't send this other W-2 but we have no real proof. You are saying that the W-2 was in the package and we don't have any reason to doubt on you and your integrity. b) We will help you to solve the problem. "We" can contact the IRS and try to get the penalty avoided. By the way, we'll call together, we'll contact the IRS with you and "together we'll solve this situation" c) About the $460 in interest, and because we think that this can be a mutual mistake, you have to pay it but we'll not charge the $75 for the addendum. We know that it's not complete fair, but is this ok? d) We'll review the 2016 taxes, just in case. Is this another different scenario? To me, YES. You (CPA) are assuming responsibility, helping the customer, not inferring that your customer is dishonest or lying. read more
