She spent time showing me how to blowdry and style to reduce frizz and damage to my hair. This experience through and through was a 5 star experience! Being new to the area I decided to try this salon for a balayage touch up. After reading several reviews I decided to go to Tasos. This guy is the real deal!! He is professional, highly talented, engaged and very easy and delightful to talk to! I gave him a few pictures and explained what I wanted and the whole time I felt at ease seeing him work his magic. He had that type of effect and really seemed to know what he was doing! I loved the final product too! I absolutely plan on returning to see Tasos again and will recommend him to others. The salon itself was also great. The receptionist was friendly and professional. I was offered drinks throughout, and the place was clean and relaxing. I've been waiting to write this one! Hands down my favorite salon ever. I have been going here for about 6 months now and my hair has never looked better. People will randomly stop me to compliment my hair now. Back In September/August I cut it all off and Analie fixed me up the cutest lil French bob which was awesome while she helped me incorporate some reparative products and monthly haircuts and now my hair is past my shoulder! I will never go to another stylist ever again. Then recently after waiting a year to color my dark hair.... I finally did it! And Ellie gave me the prettiest most perfect natural highlights i am obsessed. These ladies made me feel so beautiful again and I couldn't be more grateful! I highly recommend Annalie at Steven Papageorge salon! I've been a dark/dirty blonde my entire life and was really looking for a change. I was nervous, however, because I wasn't sure I'd actually like how I'd look with darker hair. After a consultation with Annalie and badly describing what I wanted, she assured me she knew what would look good on me and achieve the look I was going for. The color came out PERFECT. Such a warm, rich brown, which was the upgrade my dry ashy hair needed. Not only was the color fantastic and exactly how I'd imagined, Annalie gave me the best blowout of my life. I LOVE Steven Papageorge. If you're a newer Northwestern student or just looking for a new a salon, I couldn't recommend SP more. They got my blonde right on the first try, after other (more expensive lol) Evanston salons failed. My balayage turns out perfectly and they always keep my hair healthy. I also get blowouts for special occasions (THE place to go for sorority recruitment, formals, job interviews, etc). I'm graduating soon, but I'll make the trek back to Evanston to keep my hair looking this good! 10/10 do recommend!! read more

Horrible. Rude owner. I went to this salon as a senior on a big splurge. I wanted lowlights to break up my white hair. I showed a photo of what I wanted, and $200 later I found myself not with what I wanted! I complained to the owner who argued with me. It would be $60 more to gloss the hair, that would give me my desired results, she said. $260 to lowlight very short hair?? What a total rip. And when I said I was not happy instead of making it right I got an argument and another $60 charge. I turned the gloss down and am leaving the salon a very unhappy customer. I would not recommend. Go to Mario Tricoci if you want a place where the customer is always right. I wish I would have! I have never been to such a rude, unaccomodating salon in all of my 66 years. My hair gal was nice but it's a bad hair day for me for sure! read more

You wouldn't expect someone who knows that they're doing to let you leave the way I looked when I left. (See photo) I had went for a blow out and hot iron curl, after it fell right after leaving the salon, I went back (to wait for my sister to finish) and the woman grabbed me back to fix it. She put so much hairspray in it it didn't move. And I mean an inch. She also didn't section it at all so I just looked flat out silly. What SOMEONE should have done was noticed I didn't look good (or happy) and washed my hair again and just given me a blow out. I had to fix it myself with so much product in it, it was quite difficult. Now I can't get my money back, I don't live in the state so I won't be returning anyway. But if you do choose this place, just make sure you speak up. P.S. the makeup artist I saw right after told me "honestly, they f***ed you up". That's not what you wanna hear after spending $75 on a service. read more

Recommend by my sister in law who frequents the salon, I took my daughter to get her hair colored. Dropped her off and when I came back to pick her up, Ming (her stylist) had done an unbelievable job. My daughter is naturally brunette but wanted to switch to blonde. Ming absolutely crushed it! I chose my stylist carefully and couldn't have been more pleased!! Elise did a fabulous job with my color. I like chocolate brown with subtle highlights. Often, even at the best salons in the city, I end-up with harsh blond highlights, ick!!! Elise totally nailed the color. Then suggested I go shorter with my hair. I admit, I was nervous. But her cut probably took 5 years off my face. My friends, family all commented on how cute I look. She also didn't try to oversell products, which I appreciate. This is officially my first non-restaurant review, but it had to be written! This past Saturday, I had my hair and makeup done because I was emceeing a Northwestern event that night. Although pricey ($150 originally - $135 after the student discount), everything was done perfectly. If you come, expect to pay a lot, but also expect to be super pleased with the results! I called for a hair appointment around 1pm the day of, and they were able to schedule me in at 3:30. I believe my hairstylist was named Nicole. I showed her a picture of my dress (a one-shouldered black gown) and told her that I wanted some sort of hairstyle with my hair gathered on one side. She took into consideration all my requests and created a beautiful curled, low, side ponytail. With lots of hairspray and bobby pins, it was able to stay in place from 4pm to 5am. I was actually planning to do my own makeup, but after seeing how great my hair turned out, I asked if their makeup artist (Elizabeth) was available -- fortunately, she was! It was $60 (including fake lashes) and took about 45 minutes. The lashes she used were separated, with 5-6 on each eye, instead of the long strip that I usually use (I'm not sure if I'm just really inexperienced with makeup, but I found them really cool). Also, she asked to see what kind of jewelry I would be wearing, and purposely made my eye makeup lighter to bring attention to my necklace and dress. The only tiny thing I could possibly complain about is that she made my skin tone extremely light in comparison to my normal skin tone; although it looked amazing in person, my face looked scarily pale in flash photos. Overall, HAIR- 5 STARS and MAKEUP- 4.5 STARS. I'm just going to round up to 5 stars because they were super professional and courteous (offered me tea), had a student discount, and really made sure the hair/makeup fit with my dress/jewelry. I'd definitely come back again if I needed to be prettied up for a fancy event! read more

I was randomly searching on Yelp and luckily found this salon! I wanted to redo a balayage that I had done earlier. I was with Ming who really listened to what I wanted. She came up with a suggestion that teasy lightning instead of balayage would be better and explained her reasoning. I'm so glad I listened to her because my hair has never turned out better. She is so talented and has such expertise, anyone would be lucky to have her. I've had less than great experiences with dying my hair because it's so dark, but she knew exactly what to do! Steven Papageorge has got to be my favorite salon hands down. The salon is in Evanston and close to campus (a huge plus for Northwestern students like me) and all their services are top notch! When I first came to SP my hair was a faded yellowing blonde, dry, and overall not in great condition. SP helped me not only reach my dream hair color, platinum blonde, but they also helped me take care of my hair and get it back to looking, feeling, and being healthy (and not expensive either) Thanks Analie!! Now I go and get blowouts at SP frequently, they do a great job and I always feel more confident leaving the salon than I did coming in (when my hair looks good, I feel good!) After two failed experiences at a salon in Winnetka, I took a recommendation from my husband's colleague and decided to make an appointment at Steven Papageorge Salon for a cut, color and gloss. Analie and I spent about 25 minutes talking about my hair and what was not working, what was working. I liked her a lot since I met her. She's an amazing person, she listens to you and to your ideas and make them to become true! Got my hair done today by Nicole. She was great. She did a very good job. I would go back to her. Unfortunately, I was quoted $45 over the phone. No one warned me of any possible uncharges. So this rating is for the establishment. Not my hairdresser. They charged me $75 dollars for a BLOWOUT. BEFORE tip which wasn't even an option to be left on the card. Cash only tips. It was disappointing and a little shocking. If I were prepared for almost double the quoted price AHEAD of time, it would be a little different. I went in for a hair consultant and appreciated the effort and time two of the stylists put in to see if they could remove pink dye from my hair. Unfortunately they couldn't and thus they were not able to do the full highlights I wanted but I'm super grateful that they tried to make it happen and when they knew it wouldn't work, they were honest with me and didn't just take me to get money out of me. (plenty of cut, color, and perm there) When you enter the salon, you will be greeted by sweet, friendly and helpful receptionists! They seemed to remember EVERY clients they have and I witness they treat every clients with the same level of attention, regardless of new or old clients. I have always booked ahead and they are very on top of their time.(awesome time management) I have never had an experience at SP that I booked ahead then had to wait at the salon for long.
