I was very impressed with Dr. Shoemaker's staff and clean office. They fit me in their schedule quickly and I was very pleased with my evaluation and treatment of my neuroma. After a much-needed surgery after 2years of painfully walking on it, the surgery was exactly the right thing for me. Dr. Shoemaker also gave me the option to use the lasers to speed up my recovery. I opted for one of the lasers, to help the appearance of my scar on the outside of my foot. I also opted for the other type of laser for the scar tissue inside my foot. My foot looks absolutely amazing and you can barely tell I had surgery and I am back to running and wearing high heels in just a few months. So pleased with my experience!!! I've struggled with ankle and foot pain since November 2014. I've seen many doctors, and physical therapists and no one seemed to be able to help. I saw Dr Shoemaker and he listened and thoroughly helped examine why I've been in so much pain and why I've been swollen for so long. After lots of x rays, and a MRI he knew exactly how to help fix my foot. I had a birth defect and no one over the years has been able to see it. I met Dr. Shoemaker and his fabulous staff a few months ago when I was having severe foot pain when walking. Dr. Shoemaker's bedside manner is beyond fantastic. In my humble opinion - if your feet are causing you pain - go to a Podiatrist. Do not go to your Family Doctor, do not go to a shoe store. I learned the hard way, with a painful foot surgery years ago (by my Family doctor). Then when it needed to be done again... I went to a Podiatrist - no pain and no more problems. A few years later, after moving to Sac, I was lucky enough to find Dr. Shoemaker. I met Dr. Shoemaker when my son broke a bone in his foot (skateboard fall). Dr. Shoemaker put in a screw and helped his foot heal completely - son went on to play college level Lacrosse - wouldn't have happened with foot problems. So when I started having a lot a pain walking, I asked for help. He examined my foot, we discussed what was going on and he told me his opinion, and that to confirm... he would recommend an MRI that insurance won't always pay for (like chiropractor and other medical procedures). We discussed all costs, likely out comes and my options. I said let's go, stop my pain. Did the MRI, determined that special ortho inserts should solve. and 10 days later I walk fine, I'm hiking miles and I don't hurt. Thank you Dr. Shoemaker! read more

I definitely do NOT recommend Dr. Shoemaker. Although he was a preferred provider for my insurance, he ignored the negotiated rates and expected me to cover the difference in what he feels should be charged for the office visit and an orthotic. The 2nd expensive orthotic he made for me was faulty and he first offered to sell me another orthotic and then said I can come back for another paid office visit so he can fix the orthotic. Do not be deceived by Dr. Shoemaker's friendly demeaner, he is just out to make a lot of money at his patient's expense. He sees 40 patients a day, so don't expect too much quality time with him. read more

Dr, Shoemaker was the 3rd Podiatrist I had seen over the last 15 years. The first 3 were completely unable to help me. One even told me I would need surgery but "since it was usually unsuccessful I should avoid it until I could no longer walk." I would not have even tried a 3rd doctor save for the recommendation of my best friend. Her husband was a patient and he was thrilled with the results. With considerable skepticism I made an appointment. Dr. Shoemaker did a thorough examination, he had equipment I had never seen before. At the end of the exam he told me that he did not agree with the previous diagnosis I had received and he told me his diagnosis and how he would treat the foot if I wished to go forward. He wanted to make an orthotic for me. I told him flat out that the previous two doctors had done that and it had done absolutely nothing, not even for five minutes. In the end I agreed, and boy am I glad I did. The pain vanished, I can now walk with no pain at the time, or later. Honestly, it has been my own little personal miracle. And to think I've been suffering with this for at least 20 years. Yikes!! Anyway, I can't recommend Dr. Shoemaker enough. He is honest, and I am sure if he cannot help you, he would say so. He listens to his patients, is interested in what you have to say, and encourages your active participation your care. I've been seeing Dr. Shoemaker for a liitle over a year now and since day one Dr Shoemaker and his team made me feel like I was visiting lifelong friends. They never have anything less than a smile and they all actually know there patients. Not only that, they have a new CT scanner that if you're insurance won't cover it, he charges less than half of what you would pay anywhere else. They get seven stars in my book! read more

Very unprofessional. His front office staff, specifically Nancy, is very rude and does not follow up on what they promise. It took several request to get the doctor to call me back. Nancy even hung up on me. She claims I was rude to her. I guess she calls a customer rude if they expect her to do what she promises and follows up. I was charged a deposit of $250. When I inquired why, no other doctors ask for a deposit, they said it was in case the insurance does not pay. I was quoted a cost of $70 for Orthotics after giving them my insurance. They never returned my deposit even after billing my insurance. It took me over a week to finally get them to return a portion of my money. They only returned $90, $90 short of what was promised. Now I know why they get the money up front. They want to cheat you. Also, the doctor tried to push an expensive laser procedure for minor nail fungus. When I said I could not afford it he sold me expense cream that does not work. Go to someone else. There are many other doctors that will put their patience first, not their bank accounts. read more

Dr. Shoemaker and all of his staff are awesome! I recently went in to get orthotics for my shoes because my plantar facia pain was not going away. It's been about a month with the orthotics and my feet already feel better than they were before I had them. They are fast and good at what they do in there. I also had to get an ingrown toenail surgery on both of my toes and I went in the first week for the first toe and then two weeks later for the second toe. Dr. Shoemaker is awesome at making you feel a little less stressed when going in for the surgery and cracking a few jokes. 4 weeks later and the toes are basically healed! No more pain! If you are looking for a great podiatrist and a great staff, this is the place to go! read more

It takes alot for me to take the time to write a negative review, but here goes... NEGATIVE FIVE STARS We saw Dr. Shoemaker for a second opinion after a foot surgery performed at a different office. I believe he is concerned with one thing: MONEY. He will very agressively sell his laser treatments to you...at a rate of $200+ a visit. He will also sell you some "medicine to go" in a plastic container, which we do not believe it legal. His office will continue to bill your insurance for absurd amounts of money, that your insurance will decline. Once you pay one bill, another is on the way. For instance after we paid an invoice for an x-ray that our insurance declined to pay, a few weeks later we recieve another bill for "ESTABLISHED PATIENT EXPANDED": $110.72. What is this? This is the worst we have ever been treated from a doctor's office. I called and no one from the billing office (Patrice) will return your call. Please, Please think twice. If you are in the area and need a podiatrist, please go see Dr. Neil Van Dyke. read more

I actually was recommended to Dr. Shoemaker by a family member. I was really nervous and didn't know what was wrong with my foot. Dr. Shoemaker took the time to get to know me and answered all of my questions. The staff is amazing!! They work around my crazy schedule. I have read the comments about him "pushing" the laser treatments. I understand their points, however, I actually had the treatment done and I can understand why he prefers it to the traditional method. It was a huge difference. I think that he is a wonderful doctor and has an amazing support staff. Also, I have not had the billing issues others have described. I would recommend this practice to anyone. I have seen several podiatrists and none of them even came close to Dr. Shoemaker. After years of bunion pain I went to him and he immediately discovered bone splints and nerve damage. I am an incredibly active 25 year old who was hesitant to have an operation. He have me some great options other than surgery but getting the operation was the best choice. He did an amazing job. When I had questions late at night on a Friday after my surgery the nurse got hold of him right away and he called me within 15 minutes!! I have been healing quickly and he has helped me so much, im so fortunate to have been referred to him. His staff is wonderful, friendly and helpful and I genuinely enjoy all of my visits there. Im not much of a yelper but Dr. Shoemaker is an incredible doctor and surgeon! I highly recommend him. Cheers to great docs, they can be difficult to come by. read more

I wouldn't go back to this guy no matter how much pain I am dealing with. I went to Shoemaker for pain and numbness in my foot. After four visits and hundreds of dollars, I still have pain and numbness in my foot. I happened to go to Shoemaker based on a recommendation of a co-worker, who by the way is just as unhappy as I am with his service. We went in with two different issues and came out with the same treatments "X-rays, ultrasounds, and orthotics". He was even kind enough to offer some laser pain therapy for a hefty price. Of course, this is not covered by insurance because it doesn't work! This guy is a fast food service, one size fits all kind of doctor. You would be better off with an internet search to figure out your problems and treatments. This guy only seems to care about his bottom line. Don't go to this guy! Find a doctor that cares about your wellbeing and is willing to provide you with an understanding of what's going on and can offer some options that aren't all that expensive. read more

While on vacation from NY visiting my dad in Sacramento, I broke four metatarsals in my right foot. I found Dr. Shoemaker and he was an extremely informative and assuring Doctor. He always took the route that was safest and best for me personally. I had my first surgery and everything went well. The surgery center he uses is literally across the street from his office and was very clean and the staff was nice. Two weeks after my first surgery I had a small fall on my knee scooter and Dr. Shoemaker saw me the next day as an emergency appointment even though the office was closed and he had been in surgery all day. Unfortunately I needed a second surgery but again he was very reassuring and the second procedure went well, too. The staff at his office were always kind and welcoming. At one point there was a new medical assistant helping out and it was nice to see that Dr. Shoemaker still made time to teach the MA. All in all I had a great experience here. I am now about 6 weeks from the second surgery and I am already walking in my boot. Baby steps but better. Now that I'm back in NY I miss his office and haven't found a doctor with his kind of bedside manner yet. Thanks Dr Shoe !!!! read more

My experience with Dr. Shoemaker was great and I found the staff to be extremely friendly and knowledgeable. They did a good job of communicating what my charges were and why. It seems "Mark F" is either a troll for another podiatrist or he didn't carefully read what the charges were and tried to talk his way into a discount. While I was there in the waiting room another patient was trying to brow beat the staff because they didn't know the limits of their own insurance and became hostile. It was so bad that I was going to say something, but I have to give credit because the gal up front kept her composure and did her best to explain to someone who obviously would not listen. read more

Wow what a hype this doctor is. I fractured one of my toes and right away he tried to sell my lazer therapy to "speed up the bone healing". Well I was gullible enough to try it. What can I say, I was desperate. After $2,000, yes that is NOT a typo I was not any better. Then he took another xray of my toe, but did not take the correct angle on it. He said it was all healed, and that I could do whatever I wanted. I tried jumping and pilates and had so much pain I could hardly walk. I waited another month and went to an orthopedic surgeon. He took the correct xray and the toe was still broken. Needless to say, I had to rest my toe for still a couple more months until it finally was cleared by another xray. Dr. Shoemaker is a total hype. I would not send anyone there. If it was possible to give a NEGATIVE STAR RATING, I would. This Dr. Is a quack! They over bill your account, charge every office visit as 'extended service' to increase the billing fees, conveniently don't credit payments to your account, etc. if you are looking for a great podiatrist, call Dr. Perez with US Davis. He is very smart, thorough and ethical. Dr. Shoemaker was always late to my appointments, didn't seem to read my chart before he came in to meet with me and always seemed to need another test or procedure to really determine my diagnosis. On my first visit, he charged me $50.50 to tape my toe. Then, my second visit, he gave me a brace that did the same thing, for an additional charge of course. Then, my next visit he said I needed a $300.00 boot. After, an ultra sound, X-ray AND MRI... He couldn't determine a diagnosis. On my first visit with Dr. Perez, he knew what the problem is... And, this was without my file I took from Dr. Shoemaker... Capsulitis! He was able to diagnose my problem just based on my symptoms - wow! read more

I could barely walk because of inflamed Achilles tendons. Shoemaker charged me $ 500.00 (not covered by insurance) for orthotics inserts that just caused more pain. I had serious misgiving about his office from day one. They seem primarily interested in signing me up for as many appointments as they could, racking up as much billing to the insurance as humanly possible even sending obnoxious text messages urging my return, very annoying! I had three appointments, one of which the doctor didn't even attend. The orthotic was very cheap despite the high price. After 3 weeks I was still in a lot of pain and the orthotic was making it worse!! So I a went to another Foot Doctor who told me it was not what I needed and advised me to "throw them away". This new doctor provided me with relief within hours. Thanks to the new Doctor I am running again. I called Shoemakers office and told them that I was disappointed in them and told them I wanted a refund of the $500.00 piece of junk. I threatened to tell all in a yelp review, something they had the gall to ask me to write after the first appointment. As you can see, they ignored me. Enjoy the $ 500.00 bucks doctor. read more
