Their complex needed a large dead tree removed plus stump grinding and some dangerous branches removed from another. My sister told me the cost was $1,600. I told her she might be missing a zero. I was wrong. I live in the Seattle area and got two quotes last year to cut 2 branches off a tree that drops needles and clogs my gutter. Both estimates were around $2,000 and only 1 included removing the cut branches. Not quite sure where to begin. Maybe it's with the fake 5 star reviews from their employees (included photo of one), padding their rating? Maybe their piss poor communication? Maybe their subpar quality of work? I'll just take it from the top. I called them for a quote to trim three oaks on my property because I wanted my driveway, roof, and future fence cleared of potential falling limbs. Stevens quotes me $1800 and says they won't be able to start for three weeks due to being backed up. I tell them that's fine, as it gives me time to source other quotes and he assured me they would verify with me before confirming a date to complete the work. I DID sign the quote, unknowingly entering into a contract with an incredibly shady company that would take it upon themselves to do half-ass work and demand payment. Unfortunately, I had to travel out of the country for a funeral and had to stay longer than expected due to contracting COVID. During this time period, they called me and left voicemails and sent letters, forms of communication I wasn't able to receive. When they didn't hear back from me, they took it upon themselves to just show up and half-ass the job. I came back to an $1800 bill and look up over my driveway... Sure as shit there's a canopy of limbs threatening my cars. Above my roof? Mostly trimmed, but still some stragglers. Around the perimeter where the fence will go? Not a solitary cut. I, understandably confused, call Stevens Tree Service. I'm essentially told, "deal with it or we'll put a lien on your property" in response to asking why they felt entitled to billing me for incomplete work that I never confirmed. When I asked why they would simply move forward, they stated, "we have your signature on the contract and that's all that matters." I know I'm foolish for having signed anything without reviewing it first, but caveat emptor when dealing with this immoral company. They don't care what the customer wants. Stevens tree service came out to remove a large palm that was dead and also remove the stump. They brought a large crane too. They did a fantastic job and cleaned up everything very nice. They also trimmed another 6 queen palms and did an outstanding job. I will use them again. I bought my house in Clearwater and moved in early 2022. We had another company remove a 40 foot palm and a 20 foot Juniper as well as grind both stumps for $900. When we were ready to remove our 40 to 50 foot Camphor we though that other company's quote of $3,300 was a little high. I did some research and found tree removal in Clearwater ranges between $300 and $1,200. I know prices have gone up with everything now a days and this was a large tree so I asked 4 companies with high ratings, arborist, and have been around for a while to come out and give me quotes including this one. The other three companies quoted us $3,000, $2.900, and $2,250. This company came out last and quoted us $5,900 which is insane. Our tree is about as simple a cut down and grind as it gets. Not over power lines, in the open with no fences, and not hanging over anything for the most part. Grinding a stump in Clearwater alone is about $200 give or take a hundred so I have no clue how this guy Tom Curry came up with this quote. My advice is this look up other top rated Tree Service companies in the area that have arborist, have been around a while, and you'll get a better deal. These guys are more than twice as much as these other companies and they all check the same boxes one should be looking for in a tree service. I would not recommend this Tree Service to anyone. I own a property in Palm Harbor, Fl. On February 28,2023 I received an estimate for $ 6,500.00. The other two estimates for the same tree came in at $3,300.00 and $3,500.00. Stevens quote was totally insane. (Double the price). If they do not want to service residential property, then they should disclose upfront rather than waste the consumers time. Very pleasant, and timely; BUT didn't fully do what was requested of them. When their licensed Arborist came back out to see what the issue was he said I should buy a cover for my truck, that they couldn't remove the branch over my driveway that I had wanted removed, and paid to have trimmed back from my driveway. The "licensed arborist" didn't suggest that I get a truck cover when seeking the contract to trim back my trees from my house and driveway. I made the mistake of not being present at the time of the work being done, and not being very very careful to have ALL the details of the work spelled out specially- Don't you make the same expensive mistake. read more

Use this service only if you want issues with your neighbors. They have zero respect or consideration for other people's property. They did work on a property on my street. Despite abundant off street parking by the curb, they decided the best course of action was to park on my new grass and irrigation lines. Apparently newly mown lawn means overflow parking to these people and they get offended when you ask them what they were thinking and to move. Glad I did not put in the shrubs and flowers yet. Good judgement, common sense and consideration passes on to the quality of work...this company possesses none of those traits in my interaction. read more

Did not get the service I thought I had asked for. Called a professional specifically to trim back high branches hanging over my roof and driveway. Crew showed up and did in 45 minutes what I could have done on a Saturday morning myself. Never trimmed back the branches I specifically needed. They might be who you call for a tree removal, but can get the same I got for a lot less. They were professional and polite when I called to express my dissatisfaction, but basically was told nothing would be done. Can give further details. I will only be truthful. We are very dissatisfied. Steven's arborist approved our request for light trimming and minimal elevation ONLY on our oak tree, documented on his quote and on Steven's work crew's instructions. We wanted to keep as much of the tree's canopy as possible for shade. The day the work crew arrived, my wife verbally confirmed with the work crew foreman these quoted and documented instructions while the work crew was setting up. Steven's work crew then ignored their own instructions and very aggressively pruned our tree, doing exactly what we asked them NOT to do. Their owner and arborist confirmed this was a work crew error. Steven's owner refunded our check in full, but the damage to our tree is done. Years of growth are gone, and we lost a large part of our tree's canopy we were assured by Stevens would not be removed. We really do not know what more we could have done to prevent this from happening. read more

Stevens trimmed a big canary palm in my front yard and a queen palm in my back yard. They did an outstanding job on both and their crew cleaned up my yard and hauled everything away. I had used another company last year on the canary palm (same price) and there is NO comparison. George with Stevens had a big job with the canary palm and it looks amazing. When they came out to give me a quote to take a LIMB off one of my oaks, and they started in with "we have certified arborists and we'll have 5 guys on the job and yada yada yada, I knew I was going to get bent over. $900 to cut a LIMB not the tree. And no way a 5 man job. The price is to justify them having to pay 5 guys when 3 of them are going to stand around with their hands in their pockets. read more

We hired Steven's to trim back a neighbors extremely large Camphor tree which was dropping huge branches on our roof. They sent an estimator first to inspect the tree and provide a quote for the trimming. Chuck arrived as scheduled and did a thorough inspection of the tree. He was very knowledgeable about the species of the tree, the growth rate, an had several recommendations on trimming it to keep our roof safe. After the inspection Chuck e-mailed us a quote from our meeting. No sticker shock here, the price was more then reasonable. We scheduled the trimming and on the day of the trim two crews arrived in large tree trucks and began work immediately. Working in teams, one would trim a branch while the others cautiously removed the large limb from over our house. The limb went right into the tree truck to be mulched. The crew was done within an hour. They cleaned up any stray branches which fell and the tree was shaped nicely, it didn't look like it had been chopped back. They removed LARGE branches from this tree - the tree itself has to be more than 50 years old. I thought for sure after trimming the tree would look like it had a bad hair cut, but after Stevens was finished the finished trim was like a nice fade from a good barber. You could tell the tree had been trimmed back but it was done neatly. We were so pleased with Stevens we're having them come back to remove some unsightly shrubs. read more

They came out in June, 2019 to give me an estimate , at that time they also gave me their license and a copy of their insurance liability . Due to family emergencies, they didn't do the tree service till Oct 11. It was a very big job of trimming many oak trees, palms, camphor and sea grape. They were here around 6 hours and did a tremendous job. Very thorough and efficient, my property looked so much better. Cost was $4,000. Well worth the price considering all they did. This company is fantastic! We had neighboring trees growing over the fence line and needed it cut back. They cut them back and all the way up (approx 20ft high). They reshaped our "mushroom" tree and also trimmed our overgrown bushes against our back fence line: 70ft of bushes cut from 10 ft high back down to 6ft high. Everything was done in less than 2 hours because they sent a massive crew to get it done! What would've surely taken several weekends if we would've done it ourselves was done in less than 2 hours. We had a small job and originally called a small local company that had been recommended on town facebook page. After three no-shows, I decided to call Stevens Tree Service. The were very responsive and the estimator came out to give us a quote. The office called me to schedule the work, and it was done on the day promised. They did an excellent job. There is a $250 minimum price for a job, so if you have a small job it might be better to wait if you can until you have a few jobs together. The $250 was definitely worth it. There are not that many companies that want to be bothered with smaller jobs, and Stevens Tree Service was worth every penny. I will definitely use them again. read more

Had Steven's provide an estimate on trimming four trees throughout our yard. In looking back, the estimate was vague and I should have questioned the lack of detail but when the work was done I was very disappointed by the lack of work done for the price quoted. Once he told us the price we mentioned we had a 20% discount flyer that their company sent in the mail. He said he would not accept it and was going to leave. We had a large stand of punk trees wrapped in tangled vines with an oak somehow growing out of the middle. Another tree service I contacted came out and said it will be expensive and didn't seem to even want the job. They recommended Stevens. Am I glad they did! The estimator Chuck told what they would need to do, provided an "out-the-door" estimate, and told me they could do it in 3-4 weeks. Once the date was set, Chuck showed up early to prep the job and the crew was right on time. They did not mess around and were not only very thorough removing the mess of trees and vines but also did a great job cleaning up. I hired Stevens Tree Service to remove some bald cypress trees for which I received a county permit. Scott Sullivan came to my home and inspected the trees and we discussed their removal and the removal of the "knuckles", or roots that surface from the tree and create hard bumps in the adjacent lawn. Mr. Sullivan said that all would be taken care of and they would do a good cleanup. When the crew arrived, I showed a crew member where all of the nearby sprinkler heads were, and I had painted a circle arround each one. They removed the trees quite quickly and ground some of the knuckles. When I discussed the fact that most knuckles were still there and not ground down, the crew member had to go and wake up the job foreman who was napping in the truck. We were not able to resolve our differences, and I asked him to call Mr. Sullivan to come and resolve the issues. He said he didn't need Mr. Sullivan as he was in charge, and had an arrogant attitude. Then he complained that the workers, including himself, "were at the bottom of the food chain." After they left and apparently called Mr. Sullivan, he called me and arranged to come back and inspect the work. I showed him how poorly the job had been done and that one of the sprinkler heads had been destroyed. He said he would replace the sprinkler head, but back peddled about removing the knuckles. A few days later he replaced the sprinkler head. Today he came back with a worker and removed some more knuckles, but not many of the ones we had discussed, which are the ones that the mowers hit, The work area is still a mess, including part of a broken rake. I will have to do the cleanup myself to prepare the area for replanting of other trees as required by the county permit. Over my decades in developing property and owning homes, I naturally deal with good and bad contractors. The Stevens Tree Service has a nice web site, and Mr. Sullivan talked a good line, but the result was, in my estimation, a poor job and I would not recommend using that contractor. I am sure that for some jobs they do an adequate and perhaps a good job, and perhaps I just was sent a poor crew, but the job was very disappointing. read more
