If you are looking for live blues, look elsewhere! Cover charge to see a terrible band that certainly was not blues. Maybe I just didn't hit the right evening? My fiance and I were visiting Louisville and wanted to try a bunch of local spots. We wandered upon Stevie Ray's and my fiance being a fan of his music, we decided to stop in. There was a live band playing but it wasn't really our speed, so we were a bit caught off guard at the entry fee. Inside it had a cool, darker vibe. When we visited it was around Halloween, so they had some holiday decor. I ordered two drinks, a vodka pineapple and a martini that was on an old menu I found online. The bartender didn't know how to make it as she was newer, but she found a recipe for it. I appreciated her looking it up! My fiance stuck with the bourbon special of the night, which was high octane! This is definitely a spot for strong drinks! read more

My husband and I visited Stevie Ray's with a large group of co-workers. Despite it being a busy Saturday night we didn't have any issue grabbing high top tables together. We did have to pay cover of $8 each. When we first arrived the dance floor was busy, with popular tunes being played from a radio playlist. Had that continued we would've stayed on the floor longer, but a band played sets as well. Good enough music but not ideal for dancing. Typical old school divey bar with plenty of beers and liquor to choose from, and of course a crowd doing periodic shots. It's been years since my last visit and it provided a good venue for us to continue conversations and wind down for the night. read more

If you are a "bluesman" it is a must visit! Not just the music, but the vibe. You really feel you have been to the crossroads here. No drama, no fights, no harsh lighting. Just blues and brews. The way it should be. The kinda place Leadbelly,Cooker, or BB would play. read more

First visit to see one of my favorite bands Soul Circus. We called ahead reservation. Tables $20 buck and well worth every cent. Limited seating. Drinks were tasty and a good pour. Service was awesome Casey and Becca thanks again. Fun private patio AKA " Voo Doo patio" see pic of wall art. Seating tables have umbrellas. Street parking free after 4 pm. Original brick walls with music pics of artists who had previously performed there and framed concert bills posters posters of many local and national artists shows from decades ago. Facilities clean No lot parking I seen. Great service. Definitely check it out especially if your looking for the local music scene. read more

I had a great time at this place! The people there were super nice. Was in town flying solo and popped in a Sunday Eve to find the best group of guys playing. Something? Avenue Shakedown .. Lots of fun to watch, nice to chat with. Came back the next day but they were closed even though the hours said they'd be open. Do you want to have a good time, good drinks, and great live music? Then make sure you go to Stevie Ray's when you're in Louisville. Myself, husband, and another couple were on vacation to do The Bourbon Trail during the days, wanted to seek out some live music at night. I heard about Stevie Ray's, and gave it a try. No cover (Thursday), bartender was super friendly and accommodating (thank you for those delicious Lemon Drops), and the band was playing classic rock with some pop towards the end of the evening. We shut the place down, definitely not crowded, but the patrons were also so nice, and liked me and my girlfriend's enthusiasm, lol. I totally recommend Stevie Ray's! read more

I always appreciate a grungy bar and vibe. The name of the bar suggests blues which was the expectation, but to be fair if you look at their website, they have a range of styles to include rock, country etc. which is great. However, we went on a Saturday night and there were two bands, both of which were horrible AND a $7 cover. Therefore that's the rub and a reason for two stars. Don't advertise awesome music when the product you put up there was like a six. read more

I loved this place! The live jazz music is so great! Our server was wonderful and the over atmosphere is a fun one.

I stayed at an AirBnB nearby and the music lured me in here one night. It's a pretty laid back bar. They have a good beer list. The band was great. It's not fancy, but if you want to have a drink, listen to some music, and lounge at your table with the option to get up and dance, it'll serve you well. read more

This was a pretty cool joint to hang out for the evening. Parking was close, there was a $5.00 cover and once in you could sit back and listen to live music centered in the bar. The staff were attentive and the drinks were strong. It was quite crowded and loud so it isn't a bar I would recommend if you want to have deep conversation with sometime. I will return. Note: most of the negative reviews appear to be related to a bar with "blues" in its name not plays blues music. The same was true during my visit. I had a great time at Stevie Ray's. It was $6 cover. I arrived around 8:30 on a Saturday and while most of the tables were taken, I was able to get a bar seat. Bartenders and hostess were super friendly and so were the patrons. I saw two blues bands, which is great, because I like the blues. They post the bands on their site so you can see who is playing before visiting. Great location in downtown. Would go back if in the area. read more

Such a RANDOM place where it is, but great atmosphere. They have a Live Blues Jam every Tuesday night, which is when we stopped in for a beer. I'm sure they can fix just about any drink, but it's the kind of place where you sip on a beer and just chill and enjoy. Nothing fancy, but it has that old soul feel that you crave every once in a while. I'm not sure if there's table service or even food for that matter. Most folks are there for a drink and live music. read more

The music was great, which is what really earned the 4 stars. The bartender was SO rude (not to me, but I could hear it over and over) and he made it obvious that he did not want to be there. For the first part of the night, we had to go to the bar to order our own drinks. Later, we did get a server that was really good and stayed on top of things. The management seemed to be putting out fires all night and didn't seem to really know what was going on. The music made the whole night worth it though. read more

Some friends and I had tickets to Michael Buble at the Yum Center and though we had fun, we wanted a more upbeat environment where we could dance. Stevie Ray's had a fun band playing so we stopped in for an hour or so. It was exactly what we were looking for- a fun, laid-back spot with live music and a dance floor, a chill crowd and inexpensive drinks. Went there on a Tuesday night will in town visiting family. Music started around 9 with a bunch of old guys jamming and having a good time which in turn led us to have a good time. Nice laid back atmosphere, drinks reasonable (understanding that this is a a tourist area) and staff was great. I could see spending lots of time here if I was from Louisville. read more

While "Blues Bar" might be a stretch on the particular Saturday night we visited, we were thrilled that we found a place nearby our hotel downtown that was playing live music so early in the evening. Two bands played with the first one starting at 6:30pm and the second one starting at 9pm until wee hours of the morning. They both were great bands though not blues music. I'll take it -- old time rock is good, too. The place was just right -- live music, plenty of tables inside with a courtyard out back called the "Voodoo Garden". What I liked about that venue was that you could still hear the music and have conversations. Inside it was way too loud for my taste and got louder as the night wore on. They also don't serve food which was a downer as we were hungry and drinking. So, we headed down the street for a bite then came back. There was a 6.00 cover (a very small price to pay for good live music) for both bands and they stamp your hand for re-entry. So, all in all, we loved that we found a great spot to drink and listen to live music within walking distance of our hotel and that downtown Louisville is a hopping place at 1:30am on a weekend. Stevie Rays is a laid-back bar that is filled with regulars but friendly to new faces as well. Bar staff is super friendly and drinks are well priced. If there's a particular band playing there may be a cover but usually you can just walk in. The location does not serve food but no one says anything if you bring something in (make sure you are buying your drinks here though). Jimmy Johns is around the corner and I have seen them make delivery to the bar. Certain nights of the week there is an open mic/jam session. There are regulars playing but if you want to give it a go, there's a sign up sheet! There's a nice patio out back if you just want to hang out or smoke as there's no smoking inside. read more

Band was good. Crowd were more on the mature side, which I prefer, everyone was having fun with music and drinks. Our bartender was awesome, she made sure we were liking the drinks and everything. Been a while since we frequented stevie Ray's. So spontaneously while a friend was in town who loves the blues she ask if we would with her on a thursday night for thursday throwdown. Turns out that is their name for open stage night. They did have a house b as nd play the first set and then various artist brought their guitar as rs keyboards etc and set up to play. Going in we were thinking amature nighr and were not expecting much. But boy were we wrong. The house band was really good. They engaged with the audience and really seemed to enjoy performing and they were really good. There were not many folks in the bar so that to made it fun and personal. Once the guest musicians began to play we were again surprised. They too were very good. There was so difficulty in transitioning from one song to the next but they sounded great once they all got on the same page. There is nice outdoor patio in the back of the bar but you can't hear the music from there. Wait staff was friendly and drinks though pricey wrre good. Fun Thursday night outing. Spent several hours on a Friday night. Live band played all types of music. Older crowd but everyone was up dancing and having a good time. Drink prices were very fair and they had several drink specials on a weekend. I believe the cover charge was $5/person. There was some parking available. Plenty of seating. Clean restrooms. Staff were attentive. Not much else around and it's a bit away from other hang out spots. Only complaints would be 1) seats have odd back support and aren't comfortable, 2) food truck left before 1030 which meant nothing to munch on- you are permitted to have food delivered if you want. Husband and I considered going a second time on our trip but decided to try out another place-would go back next time we're in town. read more
