Recently visited Mercury Ballroom for a concert. I appreciated that they had security to get in the venue. My experience getting in was quick. It started by showing my ID to get a wristband, then scanning my ticket and going through security. I enjoyed the concert I went to - the venue was loud, lighting was good, and there was some outdoor space (with a second place to order drinks.) Close to the stage, people were dancing, moshing, and having a great time. In the back, there was room to enjoy with a little more space. My one gripe, I KNOW that alcoholic drinks at all concerts and venues will be overpriced but the only option for water was an $8 can. Just be aware if you plan to hydrate! read more

I have now been to several shows through the years at Mercury Ballroom - it is high time for a review! The pros - - no bad seat in the house, but if you're ground level general admission be prepared to stand with us plebs. Seats are for the VIPs and folks who need the accommodation upstairs. Such is life. - Mercury Ballroom is maybe the most intimate large music venues in town. Downstairs GA gets right up by the stage and even 'the back of the room' is only ~20 feet away. - Tickets here are typically quite reasonable. Watch for the $25 show promos that happen once or twice per year. - Friendly staff! - Access to snacks and beverages upstairs and downstairs. - Upstairs accessible by stairs or elevator - Coat check available. The cons - (not their fault, no stars taken) - I struggle to find a selection of great meal options pre-show right now in this theater district part of downtown. As a guy in my 40s, I will admit that general admission standing venues are not my favorite. Particularly since I'm a average height. But this venue is about as good of this type of venue as you could hope for. It's clean and has a very good sound system. A lot of good acts come through. As it's true throughout the industry, ticket prices are getting crazier all the time. And there are actually options for seating that come at an additional inflated price. So you can drop a lot of money here in a very short period of time. But I've seen a lot of good shows here and will continue to do so. read more

The Good: I really like Mercury Ballroom as a concert space. There's ample standing room on the ground floor, and a decent amount of seating on the balcony. There's a full bar on the lower level and smaller one on the upper level. There's also a nice, spacious patio on the upper level that I'm sure works great for private events. There's a parking garage nearby and of course, street parking if you can find a spot during an event. Adequate number of restrooms on each floor, and they were clean when I used them. The Bad: At a recent event, I noticed a pattern emerging with concessions at these Downtown events: a tiny box of popcorn for $8 with unlimited refills. Overpriced. Just sell it for $3 or $4 per box, already. It's prepackaged and not even hot or buttery unlike at the cinema, so come on. So that's my complaint. Same situation at the Palace Theatre. Here at Mercury Ballroom, the drinks were also way overpriced. I ordered the Mango something-or-other, which is mixed with bourbon, ginger, etc. It was served up in a clear plastic cup with a straw. Not very big. It tasted like overly sweetened lemonade and was also pre-mixed. I tasted no bourbon or ginger. This, to the tune of $15. Was it Ripoff Week and I didn't get the memo? Either lower these outrageous prices or freshly prepare the snacks and drinks, please. I like to watch my bartender adding a full shot to a mixed drink. The Ugly: It was quite the hassle getting my ticket at Will Call. It took forever even though I presented my ID immediately and the window clerk looked at the screen and confirmed my name. I'm not sure if that was a Live Nation issue or a window clerk issue but the ticket wasn't pulling up on my phone as the clerk suggested it should, and she eventually had to text me a link. The Pretty: The place is quite pretty, both inside and out. See the Hendrix wall hanging as an example. Lovely painted ground outside, nice general decor. 3.75 stars read more

Always a great time at Mercury Ballroom. Love sitting upstairs for the shows with the mosh pits. It's a fun venue.

Twelve hours ago, I was getting ready to see a concert--my husband's favorite band, one he even has tattooed on him. We were excited and expecting a great night. Instead, within 90 minutes of arriving, the evening went completely off the rails. From the start, we were not welcomed. We were escorted to the wrong seats--the seats we paid for in advance--then repeatedly told to sit down, even though we were surrounded by people moshing, standing, and openly smoking weed. Somehow we were treated as the problem, while the actual disruptive behavior around us was ignored. What exactly changed since our last visit? Just a few months ago, we were at Mercury Ballroom with zero issues. This time, however, the staff made us feel harassed, unwelcome, and as if we were violating some kind of unspoken rule simply by trying to enjoy the show we paid for. It was my husband's birthday. What should have been a memorable night turned into one of the worst venue experiences we've ever had. Between the tickets, merch, transportation, and overpriced drinks, we spent several hundred dollars--only to feel disrespected and pushed aside. This happening right before the holiday season makes it sting even more. Your website displays videos and photos of people crowd surfing, standing, and having the time of their lives. So why were we told we had to sit down and stop enjoying ourselves? Were those scenes staged? Because they absolutely did not reflect what your staff enforced during our show. I truly hope Mercury Ballroom takes a serious look at the staff working certain genre concerts and considers whether they have the appropriate mindset, training, and customer-service skills for the environment. I have never felt this upset or disappointed in a venue in my life. We will be avoiding this location going forward, and I will be sharing our experience with others so they can avoid spending their hard-earned money only to be treated the way we were. I saw Todrick Hall here this past week (October 2023). Great show. I have low vision in the dark, so I emailed ahead of time and asked about accommodations. They gave me several great options, and were very responsive quickly. I showed up at the venue and there was an employee there to help me in the ADA section of the floor area, on the left of the stage. I got an amazing view of the show, and was told anytime I needed help, to ask the employee who was stationed there. She was so nice, available at all times. I also have sensory issues, and the music was pretty loud, but not overwhelmingly so. I came prepared with my Loop earplugs and only needed to put them in a couple times. Water at the bar is only available in a $5 can, so be prepared for that, I guess. Bathrooms were clean. Check-in was easy and security was tight, which made me feel safe. This is the second and last time I will go this venue. When I go to see a concert, I expect inflated prices at the bar. I understand that the sales make up most of their bottom line. Mercury ballroom is a classic Louisville staple located in the heart of downtown Louisville. It has been known to host many concerts and events. I finally attended an event with a buddy here in 2018. We went to see a under appreciated artist named drake white and we had a great time. The Mercury ballroom is very tiny and they do cramp a lot of people in there but it does add to that personalized feel you get when attending a concert. Your tickets are not tied to a seat so you get in there and you find a spot you aew comfortable with or just a spot you can get to and enjoy your show. My buddy and I for our concert www able to maneuver rally close to the stage and by the bathroom door so it was pretty nice. They do have a fulls service bar that is a bit pricey. It it is expected for a concert. Overall I loved the atmosphere. Made you feel Like a big part of the show. I'll absolutely find a show or concert to come back one day hopefully in the near future. Super unsafe at night. The building itself has a cool vibe, but not worth the problems once you go out into the night after a concert. Had my 9 year old little girl at a Maddox Batson concert in April, only to come outside to a dad kindly confronting a homeless man who wouldn't stop bothering two moms with little girls waiting for an uber. The dad was being really friendly, just saying things like, "can I help you with something pal? These ladies are just waiting for a ride." And the man lunged at the father. Another dad jumped in (again, it was a concert for kids, so lots of littles and parents), and as you can assume quite a commotion arose, my poor little girl, and everyone else around, was freaked out. Two police literally came out of nowhere and told the homeless man to get out of here, and he did. The dad took his daughter's hand and began walking briskly towards their hotel, I assume. I worried all night hoping they got back safely and the guy didn't follow them or something. Louisville is an absolutely terrible city (and I've been to a lot of cities, so that's saying something) and I avoid it at all costs. I especially will not be returning to this concert location. read more

Led Zeppelin II was the live entertainment drawing the crowd. The band was good playin all of the non-cliche Zep tunes. The venue is always packed on the floor as any rock concert should be. They do offer some upgrades to your admission in the form of special seating areas, ropes off upper level areas with quick access to the bar. However this night, my friend who accompanied us tried to secure an upgraded area but was denied saying that they were sold out when we clearly saw availability in both areas. We were very disappointed with the staff on this point. If you go to a show there be sure to pregame as their drinks were pricy. A round of drinks (4 lemon drops, 2 we'll bourbons, and 2 white claws) $120 Again that's 1 drink and one shot for the four of us, $120. I will still go there to see bands but not changing my 3 stars. read more

Upgrading to the "VIP Tickets" or whatever they're called was life-changing. We were seated upstairs, had bar service, great seats, and didn't have to fight everyone for standing space downstairs. The worst place I've ever been to, I could have excused the fact that I paid $90 for a ticket but NO SEAT... even though there was nothing on the website informing me this didn't include a seat. However one person on staff was so very rude I can't get past that. Plus the fact that a beer was $17.00!! Unbelievable!! That is just robbery!! I felt awful for the older people that had a hard time getting around (using canes, etc) as I'm sure they had no idea it was STANDING room only. read more

First time being at this venue. Personal friends with the performer and the band. We were hanging out in the green room while they were getting ready for the main show. When it was time to go on stage, we followed and went upstairs where VIP is. We had NOWHERE to watch the show. I was told that we needed to go downstairs, where there were hundreds of people and nowhere to stand. I got very upset and started crying because I had missed the performance. So since we are friends and family, we didn't get a spot to watch them perform because we were downstairs with them during the opening. There should be a section for friends and family of the performers, so this never happens again. I will never return to this venue. read more

Love love love this venue. The open space to stand reminds me of the good ol days of Louisville gardens. It's a small yet personable venue. You can come with just one or 2 friends or a whole group. You will have a great time listening to songs from tribute bands that really know how to make you forget that you're not at that once loved original singer or band concert. There is a bar as you first enter that you can get a very large can of beer or if you would like a cocktail or even if you are the DD for the night you can order water or a soda. There is a balcony above that you can pay a little extra and have seats vs stand and watch from above if that is what you prefer. Awesome place to see live music!! Gen pop is mostly kept on the first floor, though there is some railing space and couch / two tops upstairs where you can see the show (but should get there early if a good railing spot is what you're lookin for.). VIP is upstairs, and there are a few different upgrade levels you can purchase day of show if you don't decide ahead of time. Anywhere from just theatre seating all the way up to VIP room access (w private (cash/card, not Open) bar. Food is typically not available, but their bartenders are fast and friendly and typically work any lines down very quickly. Acoustics are good for a venue this size (capacity around 700 ppl), sometimes a little loud if it's a metal show. They have some amazing cover bands that show up there, so be sure to check them out. Location is a short walking distance to several other downtown hot spots (4th st live, Seelbach, Brown Theatre) as well as some good local eateries on the same block (Marketplace, Sicilian, Encore, etc). read more

This might have been the only major event space in town I had not previously visited. That all changed last night for the Postmodern Jukebox concert. It was an absolutely amazing show in a nice space. It is well decorated, clean space with good temperature control and staff. It started while we were waiting in line outside. The staff started checking ID before the line started moving. They also were checking to see if anyone wanted upgraded seating. We did. We needed two ADA seats with another non ADA seat close by. The upstairs ADA seating was much more comfortable than the bench seats available downstairs (and free!). My husband sat in a regular theater seat directly in front of us which cost $25 more dollars than the standing room only general admission tickets. That's not the best price but also not outrageous. What was outrageous were the two canned drinks we ordered (a large Corona for him and a new smaller, canned, Bacardi Rum Punch I ordered) that cost just over $25 plus tip. I only ordered the Bacardi because it was new to me and I thought it'd be less expensive than a mixed drink. I guess I was wrong. He got the large Corona because it was the only size they had. You can order fancy drinks at expensive restaurants for less than that. Other than the drink prices, it was a nice night out for us and a friend. read more

After seeing quite a few shows here since it opened, it's time for a review. This venue is like Headliners, but it's new and shiny. The first few times I went I thought it was a similar size to Headliners. After attending a dozen shows there, I can say that I think it's smaller. It could be sized the same, but I don't think they utilize the space the best. The house sound people take up a large portion of the floor. It seems like they could place them somewhere else or maybe in a row along one of the walls. Instead, they're in a large cube almost directly in the middle of the room. The bar is a short distance behind them, but there's a large portion of the floor that's wasted space because it's not elevated. It wouldn't be that hard to implement. I wish the upstairs was open to all. It's really cool that they have the upstairs area, but only one side of it is open to average patrons. The other 75% of it has been for VIP only members during my visits. Also, the area that is open to average patrons has this barrier that's higher than normal. It's extremely uncomfortable and I'm not sure why anyone would want to tiptoe or lean to see over it. I'm not the tallest, but I'm also not the shortest. It's likely so that people don't spill their drinks over the balcony, but I mean come on! The entire upstairs should be first come-first serve. If you need a break from the crowd, they also have couches upstairs. Others talk about drink prices. I haven't had an issue while ordering drinks there, but I'm almost always ordering a pour of some type of bourbon neat. It's not always clear what they serve. The sound can vary here. It depends on if the Ballroom sound people are running things or if the band you came to see has their own sound guy. The sound staff can be spotty. Obviously, it also depends on where you're standing. I was afraid that Mercury Ballroom would take away acts from other concert halls. I think it has been a great addition to our music scene. It anything, it has attracted more medium sized acts. It seems like the stage is smaller than most. Depending on how energetic the band is you're seeing, it can limit the overall performance. It was noticeable when Local Natives came through. After seeing them multiple times(Outside, Ryman, At a fashion show), their performance here seemed crowded and limited. They were great but they were also working with what they had. I do like the security at the Ballroom. It's always pat down city. In today's world, that's a small price to pay to make sure someone doesn't come in with something to harm people. If someone performs here that you love, you should definitely attend the show. It won't be your best concert experience but you'll have a great time. read more

I come here often. We came for the Selena tribute. The security is the best, they stay on top of their game. Knowing they are keeping the venue safe is great. We can always enjoy the shows. The venue always starts off clean and temperature stays decent. The only part I notice is the sound it always off. It's never a solid quality sound. It's always either too much bass or drums and can barely hear the singers. But we always enjoy the acts and shows. Good times and great venue. read more

I've visited Mercury Ballroom a few times for concerts - primarily Sixteen Candles, the 80's cover band. For a primarily standing room only venue, this is the main one I don't mind visiting. There are a few seats upstairs, which is a great spot to grab in between sets, but I'm not a fan to stay there during the show if it's high energy. It's too hard to watch the other folks dancing around the stage! Bars are available on both levels. On busy nights you can spend some time in line and I've been known to buy 2 beers at once just to avoid the line again. Like other venues that pack people in shoulder to shoulder, it will affect the temperature. Even on chilly nights I wouldn't recommend bulking up your clothing. Plus dancing makes you hot! A VIP area is available. Bathrooms are a good size even for big crowds. The ticket window is accessed from the outside. At least 2-3 people are at the front door checking in guests, and when the show is over they will also come around to move the crowd out. Street parking can be found nearby but I am appreciative of the garage on the same street. You also have access to a few restaurants before and after the shows. read more

This was my first time coming to this establishment. I've seen previous reviews of great bands in this little arena. I watched a Led Zeppelin tribute band from the vip section and it was fantastic! Singer sounded/looked dead up like Robert plant. The rest of the band a was dressed to the occasion Drummer had the hair plus the headband. Bassist was able to play bass and keyboards. Guitarist even used the violin bow during the dazed and confused solo. All in all my first trip here was a great one!! Hope to see more bands here. read more

Mercury Ballroom happens to be another great music venue on the Fourth Street strip. It is right next to the Louisville Palace, but Mercury tends to have different kinds of performances to the point where I feel like this wouldn't hurt their business. I've been here for a Disney cover band performance, and loved it a whole lot more than I thought I would. They have all kinds of tribute shows, and even some bigger names like Machine Gun Kelly. The venue itself is small, but was enough space for the time that I came here. There is also a second floor VIP section, that has its own bar and seating. The first floor, however, does not have seating, but does have its own bar in the back as well. For the local feel that Mercury gives off, I'm a bit surprised to be paying a tourist price for a cocktail. But I guess being in such a tourist area can do that to a business. I always love getting to see what they have to offer next, and always look forward to being able to spend an evening at Mercury Ballroom! read more

The acoustics are a bit better than average but still leave a bit to be desired but that could have been the particular show we saw. A decent location for this venue too as you can walk to grab food or a drink before or after the show fairly easily and you're a decent Uber ride away from a lot of decent lodging. read more

Mercury Ballroom is trying, with all its might, to become a premiere music venue. And for this, I applaud them. They seem to be getting out there, promoting their shows, and pulling in acts that don't really fit at any of the other venues in town, carefully navigating what can be political waters among the other venues. They renovated a structure downtown, creating another attraction -- yay! The inside is spacious and general admission, meaning that it's up to you to get the spot you want -- nice! And at the same time, you can generally find a good vantage point, between the first floor and the balcony space -- woot! Both the first floor and balcony bars have been open when I've been there, and there is seating on the balcony, if you want to pay more for a seat -- always appreciated! Overall, the vibe is urban, somewhat intimate and with a side of posh -- nicely done! So why am I not giving Mercury Ballroom five stars? As mentioned in other reviews, the drinks are way overpriced. I paid $9 for a can of Guinness. I don't even pay that much for a snobby, craft beer. And when I've been at MB, there haven't been any craft beers -- much less Kentucky beers -- on tap. This place has so much going for it. And I suppose the ticket prices aren't too expensive, which helps make up for the drinks. I really hope MB flourishes in Louisville. read more

I've been to the Mercury Ballroom several times and I've always enjoyed myself. General admission means you are going to stand, sway, dance (or lean) while watching the entertainment from the first floor. It is easy enough to get a good spot even if you go back and forth to the bar a time or two. VIP seating (extra charge) upstairs is definitely worth it if you don't want to be on your feet the whole time and you really want a great view of the show. VIP seating is on the second floor, and there is a server who will take your drink orders and bring them to you if you want. The quality of the shows is dependent on your tastes and expectations, but I had a lot of fun each time that I've gone though I do tend to go for the VIP seating to give my feet the break they need. Street parking (free in the evening) and downtown lots/garages are available. You will get wanded and/or searched. You can check your coat if you like. Keep in mind that whatever you bring in with you will be with you the entire time you're there unless you take advantage of the VIP seating or don't mind leaving your stuff on the floor somewhere. read more

What a cool venue! My husband and I loved it. It's intimate but also not too big. We saw the Prince Experience and the lighting and sound were great. The band even mentioned that they were late and the crew did an amazing job! I did check out drink prices and they seemed a little pricy. I've seen 3 shows here now, I never splurge for the VIP, but I always have a great place to stand! It's definitely filling a need in the Lousiville music venue scene. It just seems more intimate than other venues and I've really enjoyed every show I've seen here. The tickets are usually not very expensive and it's GA so if it's someone I really care about, I just get there early to stand in line. They did have a "Fast Pass" type of ticket add-on for sale, which wasn't that expensive but kinda frustrating for those who get there early to stand in line. It's a bit smaller than Headliner's, I've also been closer to the back of the crowd with a decent view, so I don't think there's a bad spot in the place. The bathrooms are pretty clean, and usually not overcrowded. Drink prices are expensive, I expect this with alcohol, but it's always a little disappointing to pay something like 4 dollars for a bottle of water. I would like to show my utmost appreciation for the entire staff that assisted me when my wife had a heat exhaustion episode while in the front row at the concert on 11/14/23. They had to have noticed right away as I was making my way out of the crowd because the very second I got my wife into a clearing by the bar, several staff members sprung into action. From the security staff, to the bar staff they immediately got a chair, water, and a cold towel to comfort my wife. She felt better in a matter of minutes. Not only that, but several staff members continued to check on her throughout the remainder of the concert. They should be commended for their quick response and total caring.
