From April to September, the radio station WFPK holds a free concert in the evening at the Waterfront Park in Louisville on the last Wednesday of the month. We were in Louisville the last week of July last year, so we went to the concert on Wednesday July 26, 2023. The lineup for that day were artists I hadn't heard of -- Supreme Beings of Leisure, Jameron, and Bettye LaVette, as well as Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies. The Barenaked Ladies are a popular Canadian band that I don't care for, however, it was a free concert, so we went. To my surprise, Craig Northey, lead singer of Odds, a Canadian band that was popular during the 90s, came on stage and along with Steven Page, sang "Someone Who's Cool", one of the Odds' biggest hits. It was surreal being in Louisville, Kentucky of all places, watching Craig Northey and Steven Page perform a popular 90s Canadian song. What a great time! The event is my first in a couple years. The area was laid out well with the venders under the shade trees and the lawn for music with concert stage near the Ohio River. The event has several sponsors to make the event free :-). On this day, early on the weather was rainy yet a few hour before the first show the sun brought us a beautiful day and surprisingly enough the lawn drains well so it was only slightly damp if wearing sandals. The event at the Big Four bridge is perfect The bands were great! Set on the huge lawn with plenty of space - Note : bring your own chair or blanket. Each week WFPK has new artists. Bridge 19 was my favorite. Fun for all ages Ice cream for the kiddos. Food and drink "No bring in's"! Food and beverages are on sale. Limited bar yet enough to be happy. Parking, several small free lots and street. I heard there is trolley service when parking at Slugger stadium. read more

I love WFPK Waterfront Wednesday! It's one of my favorite free events that Louisville has to offer! During the warmer months of the year this free event is held monthly at the Big Four Lawn at Waterfront Park, just at the base of the Big Four Bridge. It's always such a great time! There are food trucks, vendors, and live music. Plus, it's right on the water so it's such a great setting! The concerts showcase local and emerging national recording artists, so it really gives attendees a chance to check out new and upcoming music. There are always tons of people there, and there's always a very chill and loving vibe, which is super nice to feel from our city. These events are family friendly, but you'll have to leave your pets and alcohol at home, though there is usually a cash bar. I wish we could bring our puppy to this event, but I understand the restrictions. If you're looking for a really great free and fun event to take in during the summer, WFPK Waterfront Wednesday is one of Louisville's best! read more

I can't believe that I have spent my whole life in Louisville and have never made it to a Waterfront Wednesday until now!! Not only do I love outdoor events for the summer, but I also love FREE events! I had an absolute blast and can't wait to go back again. Waterfront Wednesday is an event held on the last Wednesday of every month in the summer, and held by WFPK radio. There are multiple live bands that play and most people bring blankets or chairs and hang out all over the lawn. There are also tons of vendors, food trucks and beer tents so there is plenty to do!! They also offer a free trolley ride to and from a certain area. The drinks and food can be priced a little high, but I guess that's what you get for a free event. I paid $10 for a smallish bourbon slushie, but it was still really good! They had a few food trucks there like Lil Cheezer, The Blue Crab and El Mambo, along with some other food stands. Oliver Winery also had a wine tasting stand, and their wines are FANTASTIC! I would highly recommend this event to anyone. It's a great way to unwind after work halfway through the week, and to be able to enjoy the beautiful scenery of downtown Louisville! read more

At Waterfront Park by the Big Four Bridge for Waterfront Wednesday. Great free music concert series for everyone. Close to the bridge, you can take a walk to Indiana and back if so inclined. There is lots of shade to sit in while waiting for sunset. Vendors for food and drink. No dogs or coolers allowed (they check). Bike racks for those choosing environmentally friendly transportation. Swings in the park are great for just chillin. You can people watch, river watch, relax, or let the music make you move. There is parking in the park's parking lots, but they fill quickly for events. Be prepared to park on a side street and walk a bit. Always fun, it is great for families with young kids, teenagers, or singles/couples. Check it out and have some fun. read more

We came down here for the Waterfront Wednesday on 7/31. The weather was perfect! We parked on the Jeffersonville side of the bridge and walked over. We brought lawn chairs which was so much better than sitting on the ground. They have food and drink tents there. Getting there around 6 is best to ensure you get a good spot. This place fills up around 8ish. The event opens at 5, half price drinks 5-6. Show starts at 6. read more

What an awesome venue and event for the city. WFPK hosts live, free music on the waterfront at the base of the Big Four Bridge twice a month during the summer. (check their webpage for exact dates). We just happened to be going downtown to walk the Big Four Bridge today and as an added bonus one of the bands was setting up for the concert so we got to hear a little bit of the rehearsal while swinging in a shaded swing there on the great lawn. There were food trucks setting up, cocktails being served and just a fun, awesome atmosphere on the river. Bring a lawn chair or blanket. There are some trees for shade and the ramp to the walking bridge also provides some shade. And there is plenty of sunshine to be had as well. As we were walking back over the bridge from Jeffersonville (lots of folks from there were carrying their chairs over the bridge to see the show) we were able to stand on the ramp and listen to the music. This is a family friendly event and a great venue for summer evening music. Parking can be an issue as the event can attract large crowds so be prepared to walk a distance with your chair. Tonight there were three bands playing at 6, 7:30 and 9. It was so much fun to be there early, have a great parking place and then see the crowd fill in. Everyone should go at least once. Waterfront Wednesday is always a good time. Its the last Wednesday of the month from May-September. They do not allow outside drinks, but they sell beer, wine and cocktails on site (beer usually $7, wine and cocktails usually $8). They also have a variety of food vendors and food trucks. The music features three different bands--the first band performs at 6pm. Bring chairs or blankets and spend the evening sitting outside and listening to some free music! read more

Free outside concert from some of the best, up and coming bands in the nation, What is not to like about this thing? Parking is easy. Everyone just parks down by the Big Four Bridge. Easy enough. And it's free parking. I would suggest watching the weather and going when it is not cold and when it is not rainy. If you go when it is either cold and/or rainy, you'll be miserable. Waterfront Wednesday is the best way to spend a nice, Spring/Summer evening in this city. read more

Waterfront Wednesday is truly a Louisville gem. It took me awhile to finally make it to one, but I'm happy I finally did (and have gone to a few since). I'll go ahead and say it: the worst--and only bad part--is the parking. You're either going to have to pay or walk (maybe a lot)--or both! Otherwise, this is great! Free music. Even if you don't know any of the acts (which is pretty much always the case with me), it's a great way to enjoy a night on the waterfront with live music and a bunch of other people! There's almost always a crowd, but I've never had a problem plopping down my blanket or chair. I do encourage you to bring cash if you want to buy concessions, as many are cash only. Louisville's Pure Tap usually has free water, so bring a bottle to fill up if you'd like. You can also bring your own snacks (but not booze). You're not supposed to bring pets (so don't!), but people do; so that's annoying. I love the people watching--there are people of all ages--and I inevitably ALWAYS see multiple people I know. Also, I feel like there is ALWAYS a good sunset at Waterfront Wednesday, which makes for a perfect backdrop. Also, there's a free trolley sponsored by Republic Bank, that runs from Witherspoon to the Big Four Lawn between 6-10:30pm. If you're a Republic Bank customer, check your e-mails, as there is a chance for a free parking pass each month for 50 (I think?) customers!! Also, if you stop by the Republic Bank booth and show them your RB card, they'll give you $3 in vouchers to spend on food or beverage. Such a nice little perk as a customer! Best of all, these live shows are FREE, so it's easy on the wallet! read more

Love coming here for waterfront Wednesday. It always a good crowd and good time. I love hear new/ old local artists and bands. We have some talent in the area. Speaking of talent, these food truck vendors are on point, loved seeing Steel City Pops cart, Lil Cheezers, Graeters ice cream, however disappointed there was no local brewery selling their beer there, just the usually domestics. But over all great event every time I go, this time I took the East trolley sponsored by Republic Bank and it was so much fun they played trivia games and you can win Republic Bank buck you can use at some of the vendors! Family friendly and wear comfortable clothes and shoes. There will be some walking plus the bridge is there if you want to walk too. read more

We walked across the bridge from Jeffersonville to Louisville (7,500 wonderful view-filled steps added onto the night) to enjoy the summer night, some music & the best part...fried food. They had 312 available on tap, and because it's my favorite beer I just had to get one. It was relatively inexpensive for beer on tap. They had funnel cakes (yum!) & so many dinner choices including the normal fair-food type items like fried chicken & French fries (they're terrible, and it's hard to mess up a fried potato) and Mexican food (the quesadilla was great, we got it with chicken), they had a couple other options as well. The music was nice but nothing too impressive. Overall while the suns still out it's a nice place to enjoy a night with the family. When the sun starts setting though...it's probably time to take the kids home! read more

Obviously this is a terrific event put on by a terrific organization. The weather can put a damper on the festivities, as with any other outdoor event. But LPM brings world class acts to a lovely location for free. It's tough to beat that. Any other criticisms of the event from me would be just because the event has become so popular. It can be tough to find a good place to park because these are now so well attended. But it's a great event, and worth the trouble. read more

What's better than live music and beer on the river? Not much. Located beside the Louisville side of the Big Four Bridge, the last Wednesday of each month in the warmer months is Waterfront Wednesday. There are live local and non-local bands, plenty of space for blankets or chairs (or you can stand and walk like I choose to do), plenty of port-a-pots and there are several vendors. Wonderful place to enjoy the out doors. It's right next to the Ohio river and there is an awesome walking bridge that will take you to Indiana. They always have cool events. We went to the free Wednesday concerts yesterday and two weeks ago we went to a food truck festival. Parking is usually easy and inexpensive. Kid friendly. read more

Waterfront Wednesday is wonderful. You can see great artists for free. It's family friendly, but don't bring your children if they are afraid of large crowds (because there are always a lot of people). The drinks are a tiny bit pricy at the beer tents. $5 for a regular beer, $7 for a tall beer. That's not going to break the bank though. There is a great selection of foods to try from the many food trucks that are there. And they even has an ATM area. A great time. Definitely worth checking out, no matter your age. read more

By far one of my favorite things that the city of Louisville has to offer. In the few years that I have living here, I've only missed two or three Waterfront Wednesdays. Starting with the location- always perfect. Waterfront Park is a beautiful spot and they set up the stage right by the walking bridge. I love that about the event because standing on the bridge to watch/listen to the shows is great. You have a wonderful view of downtown, the Ohio River, the stage, and everyone at the concerts. I do spend some time listening to WFPK, so I often recognize one or two of the acts they have. However even without knowing any of the bands I still go and would suggest to anyone else that they do the same. The atmosphere is what always brings me back. Everyone is having a great time hanging out and listening to live music. Some people bring chairs, blankets, etc. and sit further back. I like to be closer and dance (although not well by any means) so you might find me in the large crowd by the stage. If I'm not there, I love to stand on the bridge. It tends to be cooler and less crowded up there, too. The vendors are great. There's beer available (you can't bring your own) and a bar as well. They have some food, ice cream, and other little booths as well for some of the sponsors and such. Yesterday I saw for the first time a group set up with silks and they were doing circ du soliel type tricks. I loved this and my friends and I stood there watching for quite a bit. Waterfront Wednesday is something fun for people of basically any age. I see whole families here all the time and I think it's a great way to spend a night out with friends, your children, significant other, etc. I mean, it's free live music. Everyone loves free things, and WFPK does a terrific job with these events every summer. read more

Always a good time, I mean free music, beer and decent food, if you are foolish enough not to eat before going down, what more could you want on a Wednesday evening. I was not familiar with the bands before headin down there and though it was not really the "I hate everything, I want to kill everyone" kinda hard rock I listen to on most occasions, it was okay to listen to. The weather in Louisville is always unpredictable. You expect hot, then you get that pop up thunderstorm like we had this evening, and it turned out to be one of the best WFW this year, as far as the weather goes, 75 with a slight breeze off the river, two thumbs up. With the rain, the crowd was down too, which meant shorter lines for beer, gotta love that. Keep in kind it is a concert, so you are looking at $7.00 beers and the quesadilla I had was $8.00, but I am not complaining about it, just make sure to bring cash as I don't think they accept plastic. read more

WFPK is my favorite radio station! Their generosity is amazing and I am extremely grateful I've had the opportunity to attend multiple Waterfront Wednesdays. It's such a fun event. Last night's show with Twin Limb, Maia Sharp & Anderson East just so happened to be one of my favorites. The weather was AWESOME, it wasn't too crowded, the fans were happy, I won a pair of purple sunglasses from the Mercury Ballroom & my momma won tickets to Pink Droid! Woot Woot Woot!!! I know sometimes the sound quality isn't the best, and I do think the food is a bit overpriced. However it doesn't keep me from coming back and supporting the local music scene along with the awesome out-of-towners who come and play for us. I've been a 91.9 sustaining member for several years now. I can't think of a better way to spend $15 a month. Go Louisville!!!! Once again you make me proud to be a proud Louisvillian. read more

I love that you can listen to wonderful live music in a beautiful setting for free. Yep- FREE! Just take a blanket or some tailgating chairs and you are good to go. Old 502 Winery has tastings during Waterfront Wednesdays for $1. I tasted four of my favorites and then ventured on to the craft beer. For $7 you can get a large domestic beer or a pint of craft deliciousness. The crowd at the waterfront is diverse and entertaining. Young, old, hipsters, hippies, professionals and students. Singing, dancing, hula-hooping or just relaxing and enjoying the smooth tunes coming from the stage. It is a good time for all. read more

I love the idea behind this...a free, outdoor, "family friendly" concert with food trucks. It sounds great and imo, it used to be. My last visit (this summer) was a big let down. We had to park VERY far away-which doesn't bother me but will some-and then had trouble navigating a big crowd, many of which who were very rowdy. There were far too many drunk people making out and stumbling around for me to want to bring the kids. There were only two food trucks--neither of which I have heard of-and the rest of the food options were the typical fair-type stands. I ordered a veggie pita from a Greek stand which very strangely came NOT on pita bread, but on a HAMBURGER BUN. What the??? The music was ok. Don't bring the kids, eat before you come, and it'll be ok. read more

We had such a fun night! My current favorite band for free!? Yes, please! It was beautiful, the music was awesome- perfect evening. Then the concert ended, and my car was missing. I had been towed! Called my friend's dad who was there too, his car was missing also! They were cracking down this week. I wish there was some way to provide more parking for these events. I took a risk and parked a little over the yellow because my friend is 7 months pregnant, and I paid the price! So, Yelp friends- don't risk it! You may have to walk a mile, but don't go near the no parking areas, you will get towed. It was still worth it. Lake Street Dive was incredible. read more

What a great experience! Got to see three amazing bands for free and the weather was perfect. There were a lot of people but it did not feel crowded which was good because you could walk around. There where food and drink stands and the prices were reasonable for this type of event. There are many reasons to love Lou. Waterfront Wednesday is at the top of my list (with bourbon and the great restaurants)! I doubt many people in other cities could fathom the awesomeness of this entirely free event! It's crazy-awesome to see upcoming bands and some local ones on the waterfront surrounded by friends on a gorgeous summer night! I've been going for three years, and it really gets better every year. The beer and cocktail prices are reasonable. They have several vegetarian options for dining. And there's Grater's ice cream! It's easy to see why they draw such a big crowd each month. If I have to miss a show because of prior obligations I'm always super sad because I know I'm missing out on a fabulous time. The parking for WW this year is going to be tricky with construction on the Ohio River Bridges Project, so to help out the concert-goers they hired trolleys! Top-notch service! I am a member of public radio because it is so obvious that to put on shows like these and provide the best music and news to their listeners they need donations. I, for one, know how lucky we are to have the public radio stations we do and to attend these phenomenal FREE concerts each month!! read more

I LOVE waterfront Wednesdays! They are one of my favorite free events Louisville puts on. The music is normally very eclectic and the vendors are very nice. I do wish there was more a variety for food, but overall I come for the music and beer. And on those aspects they are on point! Love that the concert series now has a trolley service sponsored by republic bank, which saved my legs from having to walk about 3 miles in high heels. Praise the lord! This first waterfront Wednesday was a great success, graters was there, as well as 502 winery! Went to my first Waterfront Wednesday recently. They are in desperate need of more parking. Expect to walk a mile before actually getting down there. Kind of sucks especially if you have to lug chairs around. Atmosphere was great - lots of families and young people. read more
