Evan Stewart (the "son" part of Stewart and Son) is the contractor you wish you had. He has done four jobs for us over the past few years, and is working on a fifth now. Three of those have been emergency repairs where rain came in different ways and damaged the house (we got a fixer-upper house; it's mostly fixed, but there have been some surprises). The past two times, Evan made time to help us, each time he did superb work, and each time the cost was very reasonable. The third is ongoing, but is shaping up exactly the same. This spring, we also asked Stewart & Son to fix our screen porch. It was supposed to be simple... Unfortunately, because of the way that porch was built, nothing is square, and every piece of lumber has to be custom cut on all four sides, then jig-sawed into place. That was a nasty surprise! But Evan made it work, and the result is amazing. Finally, we also asked Evan to build us custom built-in bookcases. What we asked for would have been pricey, but he talked us into getting a simpler style that was more affordable and looks even better. Just wanted to give a shout-out about Evan Stewart of Stewart & Son's Carpentry. I hired him to duplicate an existing pattern of wainscoting and molding from our downstairs to our dining area. He absolutely transformed the room -- taking time to attend to every detail while problem-solving a difficult layout of columns and "unsquares" in the room. The result is a perfect match to the existing molding and it looks as if it has been there for years. But that is not only what makes him a rock star in my book. It was the fact that he was so reliable- showing up on time and seeing the job through, willing to think through the project with me, and then producing craftsman-level work amidst the chaos of my busy home. It was really difficult to find someone who was willing to do what is considered a small job in the industry. But, not only was this company interested in doing the job --- his professionalism, quality and reliability was equal to someone to whom I was paying a million dollars. Evan made and installed a custom library for my home. The library spanned two walls of a room, with 9 vertical units and a total of 58 shelves. Even though the work was completed more than a year ago, I am still awed by Evan's impeccable workmanship. My townhouse was built with less than perfect workmanship, with ceilings and floors that were not flat to begin with but had since warped to a greater degree with time. Yet, Evan's attention to detail made sure that the built-in shelves for the library fit snugly and seamlessly from ceiling to floor. Evan was responsive and upfront about the work that needed to be done, the schedule, the expenses, and the potential pitfalls. He would never over-promise and under-deliver. For conducting his business with a rare honesty and integrity, and for realizing precisely the home library that I had envisioned for years before owning my own home, I would not hesitate to work with Evan again, and I would not hesitate to recommend him to others. read more

We hired Evan and Eric to renovate our kitchen and they were great! We had an ugly brick wall with exposed electrical boxes that they covered in drywall. They buried the electrical and added a light switch for us. They hung all new cabinets and created beautiful beams for the ceiling. They installed track lighting and a new ceiling fan. Finally, they pointed out that our plumbing was a mess-- wrong size pipes, etc.-- and replaced the pipes at cost. They showed up every day and were very reliable. They were careful to make sure we had as much access to the kitchen as possible for as long as possible, and always cleaned up any mess at the end of the day. They were very accommodating and responsive to our requests. Overall they were great to work with and very talented, meticulous craftsmen! Their prices were very fair as well. We plan to hire them again for any other projects we need. read more

Evan has done a number of projects for us - from drywall and major ceiling repair and replacement work to bathroom remodeling to a custom media center/bookshelf. All have worked out very well. He is professional, reliable, and easy to communicate with - showing up as planned, seeing projects through to completion and remaining conscious not to disrupt our household more than necessary. In addition, he does a great job of dealing with the inevitable remodeling curveballs in our nearly 40 year old house and proactively correcting mistakes uncovered from prior work by others. I highly recommend Stewart & Son for any carpentry/home improvement project. Evan did some really quality work on an un unfinished space i am converting into a bedroom. He did all the insulation work, modified a roof vent, installed a window in a really tricky place, built knee walls, a new closet, and installed new electrical outlets. i may contract him to install and finish the drywall as well. I received quotes from several other companies but Evan was the only one who presented me with multiple options and gave me the peace of mind that he knew what he was talking about. We used Stewart and Son's for our ceiling repair after a wind storm created a leak In our master bedroom. Evan has awesome customer service and is easy to work with. He got the job done in a clean and efficient manner. I didn't even need to clean up our bedroom after he completed the project. He partitioned our room so that we come and go without worry. He was also very flexible with our traveling schedule to complete the repair and took the time to get the color match right for our ceiling. Evan was great! He figured out how to "re-box" my refrigerator space to accommodate a larger refrigerator in a way that saved me from having to get all new cabinets. He had to match our older cherry wood cabinets and he did a fantastic job! He did the work with a minimum of disruption in out kitchen and was always flexible enough to work around our schedule and activities. He is very conscientious about cleaning up and minimizing dust. Evan is the greatest! He converted 2 rooms into a master bedroom and walk in closet. This required removing the current wall that separated the two rooms and building a new wall to create an extended bedroom, laying new flooring, putting in new/additional lighting and outlets and actually building out the features of the closet. Evan and Brett replaces the trim around our garage doors and front door, replaced the front door, and replaced the shutters. They had to completely rebuild the front door trim because the original builders did such a poor job. Everything came out perfectly.
