First let me say that I'm older than your average American driving student, that means I'm that much more risk-averse and nervous behind the wheel than a teenager would be. At 39 yrs old, I have only recently begun to drive, and never in a manual. Having come from Europe, I instinctively bought a manual car, and then found that I was absolutely horrible at it. Having stalled 8/9 times in a row at an intersection (and after suffering the embarrassment of having to have my friend take over to get us home) I was just about ready to give up the ghost on the car I'd bought, Enter Nima. When I called he was in the middle of a lesson, so I left a message with his service, and he called me right back as soon as he was able. He was booked up for ten days or so (always a good sign!) and I have a difficult work schedule, but Nima was happy to work with me and ultimately able to give me two classes, one two hour and one three class on consecutive days. He also arranged so I could learn on my own car- he was absolutely amazing in this regard. The lessons themselves were fantastic, Nima was able to put me at ease within minutes. All the panic and nerves I had experienced whenever I had previously slipped behind the wheel of my car were banished within the first hour. Nima is meticulous, calm and very knowledgeable, he explains everything from the why's and wherefore's of how a clutch operates, through to technique and style of driving. He tests how much you're learning by asking questions (sometimes the same question, but asked in a cleverly different way), and walking you through the various stages of driving stick, repeating individual steps over and over again until you are comfortable. He moves on when he knows you're ready. As a result, you leave his class feeling absolutely confident behind the wheel. You understand. I cannot recommend Nima any higher. If you want to learn stick, he's the man. As a final note I have to add how wonderfully friendly Nima is. He's a lovely man to spend a few hours with, and made the entire experience one of the single best experiences I've had behind the wheel. read more

I'm gonna give you guys an honest review. I did the 5hrs package, 3hrs on a Saturday and 2hrs on Sunday. By the end I felt I was confident enough to be driving on my own. Did I stall a lot in the beginning? Hell Yeah! But after awhile I got the hang of it. Inclines are still a little tricky for me, especially when I have to enter a parking garage with an arm, ugh. I usually cheat and put the parking brake up, play with the clutch till I feel the bite and give it a little gas, drop the brake and I'm rolling again. Maybe I'll do another session for just inclines and hills. Anyway, I definitely recommend learning from Nima, he's patient and easy to talk to. Plus he didn't yell at me like my dad use to when I was learning how to drive. LOL. read more

I was in a rush to learn how to drive a manual car for my upcoming travels in a country with mostly manual cars. I was able to get a 2 hour lesson on a weekend and another 2 hour lesson the following weekend. Nima is incredibly patient, thorough in his explanations, and quick to point out the mechanics of what went wrong if/when you make a mistake. His lessons were comprehensive, managing to cover (with hands-on practice as well): moving the car from a stop, stopping uphill, upshifting, downshifting, reversing, and how to react in a variety of scenarios. It's always been a goal of mine to drive a stick. Unfortunately I've never had a manual car and a friend willing to teach me. Enter Nima and his wonderful and focused course! I emailed him thru his website and quickly got his contact information. The following day I was speaking to him on the phone and we were able to coordinate a time and a place to meet. He explains everything simply and patiently. Depending upon your level of experience and how quickly you learn he will let you ease into it or simply hit the road. I had only driven a stick shift twice before signing up for lessons, and one of those times was over ten years ago. As both of my experiences ended badly, I was a little nervous about trying again. However, Nima did a great job of teaching me the fundamentals, and by the end of the first two hours I had grown very comfortable with the clutch and no longer had problems getting the car moving quickly. I ended up taking the five hour lesson (spread out over three days) and by the end of the last hour I was very comfortable driving in traffic and could start on an uphill without freaking out. I have since test driven stick shifts without any problems and am about to buy my first manual car. As someone mentioned earlier, Nima really has developed a great curriculum. I received the 5 hour stick shift driving lessons as a gift and found the true asset of this business is Nima's personality and the way Nima teaches. I scheduled my lessons on consecutive Saturdays for 2.5 hours each. Nima had no problem accomodating my request to start at 7am. On the first day before I started driving, Nima started off with teaching me the basics before we started the engine. I liked the way he taught because it felt like taking baby steps when he introduced a new idea or skill to master. He will ask you many times if you are good with a certain skill, so I recommend taking the extra repetitions to drive the point home. The first day was spent practicing at a parking lot off of Topanga Canyon Blvd. The next day was spent driving around the neighborhood. I just finished up the 5-lesson course with Nima yesterday. I scheduled my lessons in blocks of 2 hours, 2 hours and 1 hour, roughly every 2 weeks. I had never driven a stick before getting in the car with Nima, and by the time I was done I felt really comfortable. Nima is an excellent teacher and an all around great person. He's patient, calm, and knows how to teach manual. He teaches in a way where you have an extremely small chance of messing up and ruining the car. The lessons are well planned and did not feel rushed at all. We had plenty of time to keep practicing the things I wanted to practice, driving all over the valley to do so. He always arrived and ended the lessons punctually, which is a big help when needing to schedule your day. The biggest plus for me was that lessons were available on the weekends. Some schools don't offer classes when people have time off of work. Also weekend mornings in the valley are really quiet, making it really easy to learn.
