Dozens of tents and vendors along the walkways and under the trees next to the Carteret County Courthouse. Fresh vegetables and fruits, fresh fish on ice, coffee, artisan breads and pastries, arts and crafts including pottery and paintings and candles and jewelry. Even the county's bookmobile was here like a roving little free library. Live music and community organizations. I enjoyed a coffee and wandered. They sell a number of meals but to really get the full Monty we ordered a steamer pot. They cooked it for us for a few and we brought it back to the camper. What we got was huge ( feeds 4-6) and cooked perfectly. There 4-5 ears of corn on the cob, sliced red potatoes, a ton of large shrimp, clams, and two snow crabs. All cooked in Austin's rub. The rub is great, very tasty and a touch of heat. with it came butter, lemon, and house made cocktail sauce. It is, hands-down, the best cocktail sauce I've ever had. The steamer pot is a 5-star menu item. We also ordered hush puppies which were okay but nothing special. I would go back again for sure. Here is a tip though: if you want a steamer pot you need to call when they open at noon and get it on the books. Plan ahead or don't bother! Ohh, and make sure you have an ice-cold beer with it.
