My people are here! What a FRIENDLY little store with great sandwiches and things you need. Best to bring your food from the mainland, however Waves can supplement things you may have forgotten. We had a sandwich and split it for lunch along with some onion rings. Totally epic! Recommend lunch here to take to the beach! read more

10/10 Night Rider burrito: best burrito I've had in a decade. Each element had insane flavor and perfect composition. Chorizo was spicy and plentiful, guacamole was spicy and fresh, the tortilla was thin and perfectly grilled. I'm obsessed. The onion rings inside added crunch and seemed like they were just made. Can't say enough about how good this was. Especially for about $9. The whole market is so well stocked for foodies! Feels like a chef-curated sundries mart. You can find anything in there and all for a really good value. This was the best bkfst/brunch we've had in OBX and we've been here a week already traveling from Duck to Ocracoke. Yall are legends. Our last morning in the OBX, we all wanted a tasty grab and go breakfast. We arrived at Waves Market & Deli and were wowed by the menu. I ordered the Taylor pork roll. Hubby and his brother ordered the wake & bake burrito. Our sister-in-law ordered the night train. We paid then waited about 10 minutes for our orders. We found a bench outside and chowed down. I absolutely loved my Taylor pork roll sandwich. The Taylor ham/pork roll was sliced thick and cooked perfectly! Fried egg and melty American cheese along with ketchup on a soft kaiser roll made the best breakfast sandwich. Hubby throughly enjoyed his wake & bake burrito. I tried a couple bites and it was amazing! The fried potato with the chipotle sauce - yum! Everyone else also really enjoyed their breakfast. Waves served up a hot, fresh and delicious breakfast for us. We would definitely return if we were back in the area. read more

Just a super cool place. They have an extremely unique collection of goods for sale. Such as the old bubblegum cigarettes... I had no idea they existed today. They have Nehi grape drinks for example. Who has ever seen Ketchup Candy? They sell it. No doubt, it's great on those Candy Hotdogs... The place is full of candy from the 1950 - 60 era. They also have many many gourmet items, great food that you could serve to the most discriminating guests. Interesting cheeses, unique sausage, great sauces, etc. They also have a collection of wine and almost every beer known to man. The place is worth visiting even if you don't plan to buy anything. They also have deli foods. You can get a great sandwich if you are hungry, or buy all the Boars Head ingredients to make your own at home. Service was great too. The staff was friendly. read more

Very generous portions! I got the Granny Peggy on their fresh homemade hoagie bread. It was HUGE! I made 3 meals out of the 1 sandwich! My husband got the Jean. It was 2 meals for him. Loved the fun options! Made it difficult to decide. Reasonable prices, especially for the size, fresh ingredients, and being near the beach! Tip: call 20 minutes ahead to place an order. Best Restaurant near Buxton and Avon. We stop here every time we come to visit. It is a little whole in the wall place that has the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. My husband got the Italian Stallion today worth banana peppers. He said it was better than any Subway or Jersey Mikes or Jimmy John's he had ever ate. The staff is super friendly. Lots of snack options including vegetarian & gluten free options. Ordered the fake & bake burrito--vegetarian sausage, hash browns, eggs, cheese, and some kind of spicy sauce in it. Really good, and they definitely don't skimp on the fillings. I will say, it could have used a little bit more cheese in it but no big deal because the rest of it was so good. Tried a turkey sandwich from the deli later on (I just don't eat red meat hence the fake & bake burrito from earlier). Sandwich was fantastic. Generous portion of turkey, lettuce + tomatoes were fresh and crisp. Swiss cheese was good as well. I got a side of fries and they were, well, fries. Can't really go wrong there. Great sandwich deli in a well stocked store. Everything you could possibly need but plan to pay more for groceries here than at the other store options. Sandwiches were reasonable at $10 - $15 a piece. My chicken salad was just okay. Hubs ordered the Maui Wowie and loved it. Food is "to go" only so no ambiance. Service was slow. Can't imagine what the wait times are during high season. But obviously worth the wait for all the folks (mostly locals) that were grabbing lunch. We were visiting in the area and decided to stop in to buy some water. We got to the register and were greeted by a friendly cashier named Abby. She offered us a menu and raved out how good the food was. We brought the water to the car, took a look at the menu and knew this had to be our dinner spot for the night. We ordered burritos and they were HUGE. I'm not kidding. They weren't the least expensive burrito I've had but well worth the money. You get what you pay for. It's so nice to have the waves market and deli so close by and be stocked with everything that you might need while on vacation. No it's not a large scale grocery but it does keep the necessities and keeps you from having to drive miles and miles to get some eggs. I was really impressed with the beer and wine selection in the local beers, wines and ciders. Open 9-9 it's easy to see why this is a favorite spot for groceries and food! read more

We stop here multiple times during our extended stays on Hatteras, every summer. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They have a pretty good selection of local beers if you like that sort of thing. The food is always good, even the baked goods! They also have these frozen cookie desserts that are delicious! Best deli hands down! Me and my boyfriend were getting off the hatteras island ferry late and this was the only place that was open. We came in at 830pm when they closed at 9pm and the deli lady was happy to help us! Was so quick and amazing food! I got the pig pen and my boyfriend got the Italian! Popped into this place while in town on vacation and was so pleasantly surprised, it became a staple store while we were around. Traveling as a vegan can be tough, especially while going to smaller towns but this place had grocery options as well and made to order. The fake and bake without the cheese and egg as well as the cosmic Charlie were delicious. All the staff we interacted with were so friendly and kept us coming back. Lots of things in the store. We went here several times during our stay. The sandwich's were the best. Called in the order and wham.....ready in 15 minutes. A bit overpriced, but that's what happens here in the OBX. Some sort of cheese dip or cheese spread in the deli was a hit with everyone in our group. We loved the funky items found all over the store. Candy from the 80s, kooky socks and my favorite the Lip Shit lip balm. Employees were nice and the store was clean. I told him that Brittny was right over in floral, let me ask her. Brittny told me to tell him she wasn't there. I threw up 3 times and was a basket case after that. I quit a couple of days later. Couldn't work for someone that expected me to lie.

This Food Lion became our home away from home since we had a house around MP 20 and this store was…read morea very short shot up 158. Overall I would say this is a fantastic third rate grocery shopping experience while in OBX. Third rate because on my subjective and highly informal pecking order, I would put Food Lion behind places like Harris Teeter and certainly Publix in everyway that matters to me - selection & price. Selection I somewhat get since it was the offseason and clearly they're only getting new deliveries here every few days at best. I.E. as soon as you enter the store and turn hard right towards the deli they have a fridge case with store brand large pizzas at a decent price. They had a few of them available on Monday the first time came here during our week but that section remained empty until Saturday and I came to this store four times during the week. It wasn't just the pizza but also several other things that when they were out, they were out for days. I'm somewhat accustomed to that as in prior offseason visits I had been to the store up in Corolla and in the offseason they would close at 8pm or 7pm and have basically the entire left side of the store tarped off closed until ??, I guess Spring. Also, at home for me the Giant grocery store chain is the prominent player and Ahold is the corporate parent of both Giant and Food Lion so it was no surprise to me on the irregularity of certain items availability as the three Giant stores closest to me at home have been having those issues for years whereas local Wegmans are always more expensive, yet more fully stocked. The prices are what they are, the selection is fine as long as you're not looking anything too specialized or unique but I will say that the employees we encountered here were all very, very nice and that made the shopping trips a little bit nicer. Could it be better? No doubt but if I wanted that I would have gone to Publix and paid more but to me this is a-ok, good enough.
