Widow Jane Distillery delivered exactly what a bourbon hunter hopes for when a distillery visit…read morelines up with travel. As someone who always looks for a distillery stop when paths cross, Widow Jane did not disappoint. The space has a great industrial, Brooklyn-cool vibe, from the tables to the shelving to the bar itself. It feels intentional, hip, and still very much focused on the whiskey. What I really appreciated was the flexibility of the experience. You can order cocktails, flights, and even single or double pours, which made it easy for our group to explore the lineup in different ways. We ordered different flights across the table so we could sample broadly, and that approach paid off. They also offer a small but thoughtful selection of food items, perfect for pairing with tastings and taking the edge off while you explore the lineup. Nothing heavy, but exactly what you want when you are spending time with good whiskey. Two pours really stood out. The 10-year distillery-only release was excellent and worth the visit on its own, and the Black Opul 20 Year was something special. On the nose it leaned heavy into mature oak with some dark chocolate and dried fruit, and once you sipped it you got caramel, toasted nuts, a little leather, and a finish that just kept hanging around in the best way. It is one of those pours that makes you slow down and really appreciate what is in the glass. The atmosphere was relaxed, the staff knowledgeable, and the experience approachable without being dumbed down. A great stop for both casual fans and serious bourbon drinkers alike. Glad we made the stop, and I would absolutely return.

You don't think that NYC would have a top notch bourbon distiller but they do with Widow Jane. I took a tour last week while visiting and had a good time. Ryan, the tour guide, is also an employee in the distillery. He was informative and the story behind how Widow Jane started was fascinating. They are now affiliated with Heaven Hill which gives them national exposure and distribution in all fifty states. I came here because one I was in town and two a neighbor gave me a bottle of WJ bourbon as a gift a couple of months ago and I really like it. I had no idea they were in Red Hook and he told me that they are in Brooklyn. Anyway, I stayed after the tour and had a couple of cocktails at the bar. The Sazerac and Old Fashioned were top notch. Definitely pay Widow Jane a visit if you happen to be in Red Hook.

I ordered a plethora of cocktails, including the old fashioned, Manhattan, paper plane, and negroni. All arrived in frosted glasses - a nice attention to detail. The old fashioned featured brown sugar syrup,.which rounded out the palate well. The Manhattan tasted well spiced - herbal but not overwhelming so. I also ordered a dozen oysters ($2 ea). These proved light on brine and extra fresh. I found no errant shell pieces. The lemon arrived sleeved, and the mignonette was a smoky chipotle. The happy hour price point is almost criminally cheap here. Sunday also has the happy hour menu.

Tucked into a classic NoHo spot on lower Broadway, the place hits the mark on ambiance--think warm lighting, sleek wood, and custom copper stills glowing right in the background. The drinks are the main event, and the Old Fashioned is every bit as smooth and well-balanced as advertised, complete with custom-branded ice as a sharp, deliberate detail. Pair it with a solid menu at the bar, and it's an easy go-to whether you're grabbing a quick late-afternoon drink or settling in for the evening. It's polished without feeling overly stuffy, bringing genuine craft back into the neighborhood.

We ordered an Expresso Martini (Vodka) and a Bees Knees Cocktail (Gin). Dario brought our drinks to our table. The cocktails were so yummy! SCD only sells chips and other related snacks. Best to eat before you arrive. Overall, Silk City Distillery has remained consistent since my last visit. Extras: - All alcohol is made at the distillery. - Distillery tours are available by appointment. - SCD has some hilarious Tee Shirts for sale. - 2 Restrooms on the premises. - Adjoining Ghost Hawk Brewery shares a small parking lot with SCD. Street parking is available too.

Like the brewpub, Silk City Distillery had been on my wish list, and it was not until I arrived at Ghost Hawk that I noticed that they were adjacent to each other, allowing me to check both off at once. The tasting room was adorned with barrels that were holding their vast selection of spirits, such as bourbon, whisky, rum, gin, vodka, and more. They also offered a handful of regular and high-top tables, which we were easy to obtain on that afternoon (given the outdoor options as well), but typically reservations were recommended. Though the seating was comfortable, the temperature was not. In fact, it was freezing in there, and we, along with a lot of other parties, switched tables multiple times to find the best fit. We approached the counter to order from their lengthy cocktail list, which included standard and more custom cocktails. I decided on their rendition of a Lime Rickey, asking for it to be made with their gin. The tart, sour, and sweet drink was light and refreshing. I enjoyed each sip so much that I wound up getting a second round. While many distilleries offer a few types of alcohol and a handful of cocktails, the Silk City Distillery went above and beyond with their vast array of options. Any connoisseur should enjoy the place!

I made the appointment for a tour and tasting online. It said it should take 90 minutes all together. The distillery is located around a bit of a maze of warehouses and cars. It is kind of alone in its area when you find it. It's also not that big. When we showed up, they were definitely not ready for us. I'm sure the website didn't alert them, that's fine, we weren't in a hurry or anything. Plus we were really the only people there. The tour was quick, they weren't distilling at the time, so it was just kind of a this is what we do and this is the equipment we use kind of thing. They have a small bar up front and that is where we did the tasting. We tried the four different products, a rye, a bourbon, a distilled IPA and the mahia which is a fig based spirit. I'm not an IPA guy, so that was my least favorite, the mahia wasn't necessarily my thing either, but the bourbon and rye were absolutely killer. I've always been a big rye fan, but a lot people aren't. I decided on buying a bottle of the bourbon for the apartment. The place is nice, the owners are really good people. It was a fun little stop. Also, it was not 90 minutes, maybe 30-40. Might be longer if they are distilling. I'd absolutely recommend stopping in and taking the tour/tasting. Support local businesses.
