We came down to see the menu around 6 or 7 and told they were booked but if we came later they might have openings. We ended up coming back around 8 and were seated quickly. We ate here twice for breakfast during our stay at Stonewall. The restaurant itself is very nice. The wait staff were very friendly and attentive. The first morning I ordered off the menu- a breakfast wrap. Wow it was huge! Super good though. I would get it again. The second morning, I ordered the buffet. The options were actually very disappointing and everything seemed to have been sitting for quite some time. If I were to come back, I would not order the buffet again. It is not worth the price. I booked this for a wedding party of 20 they assured me they could handle it. I had three people that had celiac disease one of them being the bride. The food took two hours to get to our table and was served cold and almost inedible!! Steaks were way overcooked medium rare was served well done! The bride was the one to get sick first it was her wedding night and she was throwing up!! They did offer us 20% off the bill and gave me the champagne for free, but the night was already ruined!! We read some of the negative reviews while staying at the resort and so weren't sure how dinner would go but we had an excellent meal! Our server was very sweet and attentive. My mother and I highly enjoyed our swordfish and my husbands burger was also very tasty! The highlight were the desserts however. They were so good!! Stillwaters is the main restaurant at the Stonewall Resort. My husband and I ate several breakfasts and dinners here, and I will summarize all of the meals in this review. Stonewall Resort's website recommends that customers make reservations for Stillwaters. I made no reservations at all, and I fortunately always received a table with no wait. All of the seating hostesses and waitresses provided timely and friendly service. The waitresses brought us frequent refills of beverages without us having to ask. I appreciate that the last waitress gave me a free small sample of yogurt with activated charcoal so I could try it. (If you are wondering, the activated charcoal made the yogurt appear dark grey and gave it a slightly gritty texture. The taste did not change much.) Customers may order off of menus (see my attached photos), or they may eat a selection of foods at the buffets, which vary slightly each day. For each of my meals, I ate at the buffet. The buffet cost $19 per person for breakfast and $34 per person for dinner. Examples of buffet foods for breakfast are pancakes, French toast, apple crisp, biscuits, grits, potatoes, bacon, sausage, muffins, cherry cobbler, scrambled eggs, hash browns, watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, blackberries, etcetera. Examples of buffet foods for dinner are brisket, pulled pork, prime rib, chicken, pasta salad, caesar salad, green beans, broccoli, salmon, mashed potatoes, baked beans, carrot cake, cherry pie, cheesecake, etcetera. Overall, the food tasted good. My husband said that his prime rib was "really good" and that his chicken was "juicy" and "tangy" and the "highlight" of a meal. read more

Ate breakfast there two mornings over our visit. All four people in our party had lukewarm food. After requesting crisp bacon, it arrived limp. When we asked for an order of crisp, we were told there wasn't any. As if what they served couldn't been zapped in a microwave or refried a few minutes. The food was great, you could choose from either the Stillwaters menu or the TJMuskies menu as they operate under the same kitchen. Food options were varied and not just run of the mill. Everyone in our 5 party group had no problem choosing something they liked. They offered both a dinner and breakfast buffet with many foods to choose from. The ambiance was very casual with nice decor and everything was clean. I heard one of the staff say that they are slowly renovating the space although it didn't seem outdated to me. The service was phenomenal, they were all very friendly and accommodating. Dale was one of our favorite servers. Our group ate here exclusively during our stay in one of the Lakehouses. I highly recommend this restaurant. (Incidentally, we never made reservations because on a vacation we don't want to have to watch a clock and we wanted to eat when we were hungry and we never had problems getting seated right away although the hostesses sort of acted snippy that we didn't have reservations) read more

Our server Kateley was amazing! So attentive and friendly. The sangria was really good as well. Here's what we ordered: Cheese pizza: really salty! Almost inedible. Wings with blackberry bbq sauce: these were good actually! Fish and chips: DO NOT ORDER. These were frozen grocery store quality. Gross. I could have made these at home. But we ordered sweet potato fries on the side and they were waffle fries and were very good! Overall: overpriced and not good quality. We enjoyed the breakfast buffet, which consisted of many great items to include: eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, French toast, waffles, pancakes, bagels, fruit, oatmeal and so much more! The dinner buffet was also great, some items included: prime rib carving station, hot sausage, potatoes, rigatoni, chicken and dumplings, catfish cakes, fresh vegetables and a soup and salad bar. This place is just okay. Way overpriced, which is to be expected at a resort, bust still... Dinner: Nice atmosphere, but the food was not great. I had the shrimp Alfredo, and the sauce tasted like it was poured straight out of a jar. The kids Mac and cheese was Smokey-flavored, and my husband couldn't even eat the Brussels sprouts. My son liked the half chicken, but not the pickle fries. We would probably not eat dinner here again. Molten chocolate cake was very good. Definitely the best part. Breakfast buffet: Much, much better. Everything was good, and there was a decent selection. They were very busy on a Saturday morning, even in the off season. We went there on our first night at the resort. Now, we are currently dealing with Covid, and I kept that in mind with my review. We made reservations for 730pm for four of us. We sat down and waited about 10 minutes for a server to acknowledge our presence. After taking our drink orders we looked over the menu. We made our appetizer decisions and waited another 10 minutes for our drinks to arrive. (The theme here is SLOW service). We eventually got our appetizers and we sent 1 of 3 back as it was wrong. Once we got it back the food tasted really good. My entree was also wrong, which they fixed...but I ate half of it before I was able to even see our server again to address the issue. Between the slow service and the mistakes on the plates, we identified a theme. Our server. She did not write ANYTHING down, which I suspect is why we continued to have errors. Further, she was less than attentive keeping our drinks filled and rarely checked in to make sure we had what we needed. They were full but she could not have had more than 4 tables as there were servers EVERYWHERE. Everyone working had their masks on and seemed to follow the guidelines. I will say that this place is pricey for what you get. $17 for a burger and fries with $8 tiny cocktails. We were happy to try it but will not be returning as the service moves like molasses rolling up hill in the winter time. read more

Stillwater's, the resort's main restaurant is disappointing but tolerable. After a breakfast, lunch, and dinner there the pattern is pretty clear - they aim you toward the buffet by providing very slow service and extremely limited menu options. The food is pretty decent and prices reasonable, but overall it's below expectations. Although other reviewers seem to tolerate it because there are no better choices for many miles, we found a few good options within a 15 minute drive. Very beautiful resort and restaurant. Beautiful golf course as well. Grounds are immaculate. Now for the restaurant, wife and I went for lunch. I would say restaurant was 1/2 capacity at best. We we standing at the hostess stand waiting to be seated. Hostess looked right at us walked by and went int a back room. We should there for at least 7-10 minutes. Finally a waitress walked up and asked if we were being helped. We told he we were not, she apologized and sat us. Just as we were being seated I saw the hostess come out of the back room with a cold drink. We had a wonderful outside table on a beautiful day overlooking the lake and mountains. Waitress was ver pleasant and took our orders. Some time had passed were it seemed we should have gotten out appetizers. Waitress then came up and asked what we had ordered. She checked it against her slip and apologized for it taking so long. Another fairly extended time went by and our order showed up appetizers and the entrees together, waitress apologized that the showed up at same time. My soup was excellent, wife's salad was excellent. My wife got a wrap and said it was very good. I ordered the brisket sandwich. Menu said it was brisket with coleslaw, pickled onions, and bbq sauce. It came out in a soggy bun with brisket and fried pickles. It was horrible. Brisket was like cardboard and fried pickles were limp and soggy. Will not return. read more

Excellent for dinner, horrible for breakfast. Keep in mind I have only stayed at the Stonewall Jackson Resort on a couple of occasions over the past few years so my experience is largely anecdotal. For dinner, they go all out on the buffet. Mind you, the idea of a buffet seemingly cheapens the quality of the food from the consumer's viewpoint - but in fact the food is prepared by chefs who know what they are doing in the kitchen and do a fairly good job at doing it well. Their particular niche is modern Appalachian cuisine - and compared to other similar food types I have had in the state, this place definitely ranks to be one of the best. My favorite thing about the food is that it was all seemingly relatively light and healthy when compared to the more traditional ways of cooking this cuisine. The NY strip, served on both nights I was there, was cut into manageable portions. It was perfectly seared on the outside and an excellent medium rare in the middle. Speaking from experience, such thick cuts have proven to be difficult to pull this off like they do. Their pastas and casseroles also speak of freshness unparalled in most places. I can't talk their dinner up enough. Imagine if Shoney's focus was on the quality of each ingredient and the cooks had the training to make each dish perfect. Their breakfast is another issue. It is pretty much a hotel continental breakfast with a high charge. I want to see the Appalachian focus brought over the breakfast menu. For that price, I want to see locally harvested fish for breakfast (or some meat protein other than pork, which I can not eat). I want to see a higher influence of seasonal vegetables. I got an omelette and potatoes for breakfast. I wasn't even able to eat my potatoes because I am fairly certain there was more grease than potatoes on that dish. There was also a piece of bacon in my omelette, which gagged me because I cannot eat pork. The waitress said she was going to discount me, which she didn't. I didn't bring this back up to her because my goal in informing her was just to bring it to her attention, not to get money off my final bill. This restaurant represents the culinary backbone of our state, and it is one of the reasons I am looking forward on returning to the resort in future years. They have become much better since the first I've visited, I hope that this trend continues. read more

the buffet was standard fare. We chose to order off the menu and there were lots of problems. First they didn't bring flatware and napkins until after the bread and soups were served. The messed up the soup order as to who had a bowl and who had a cup (different soups). The chicken was delicious, but the accompanying vegetables were cold. Other dishes had to be sent back. Beautiful decor and good food! Take a look at the al la carte menu. We usually get the buffet but really liked the lobster bisque, flounder, and peach skillet dessert. I think we tried half the menu and those were amongst the best. The filet and lobster mac and cheese were also tasty. Beer on tap was good too. Cocktails were ok but nothing special. We also tried the heirloom tomato salad (meh) and Cesar salad (also meh but not bad). Well, i guess since they are 1 of 2 options on property in the middle of the Appalachian Mountains, they dont really have to deliver the goods... And they don't... Slow. Unorganized. Bad service. Went to Stillwaters for dinner tonight. Started with their house salad with Italian dressing. The greens where very fresh and I would highly recommend it. Decided to order the NY Strip medium with the Smoked Mac and cheese , and mashed potatoes The strip was ok however it was not seasoned properly , and was more med rare than medium. The smoked Mac and cheese was plain awful. First it came out cold and seemed to be out of a box and was very bland. The mashed potatoes where very thin and kinda watery. My husband and I went to Stonewall resort this past weekend and had dinner here at Stillwater's. It was fabulous. The views from the restaurant are absolutely beautiful. They also have outside seating and a bar area. Our dinner was delicious. The appetizers were incredible. Loved the deviled eggs. Best we have ever tasted. They have a nice wine list and drink menu. Staff is very friendly. Attire is casual. We really enjoyed our meal, wine and relaxing atmosphere. We will definitely be back. read more

The most disappointing aspect of our stay at Stonewall was the restaurant. While the service was good, the food was disappointing and too expensive for the quality served. I had a very fishy piece of fried catfish. I know catfish is fishy but this was really bad. My wife had salmon that was dry and overcooked. Our daughter had pork ribs and they weren't too bad. Over all experience was bad and I'm not very picky. read more

Our waiter was very nice she made sure we enjoyed everything. The bad things were we had a reservation at 5 pm and lines were backed up and caused us to be late to our event. We're weren't seated until 5:16 and we were cussed at and talked bad about by other customers in line and people walking around for the soul fact that we were in highschool but we left a 15 dollar tip becuase we are mature and respectful. One of the things that pissed me off was a male waiter with and ugly greasy bun with half his hair in a bun and half of it down he sat this couple and told them there sitting them away from the annoying obnoxious high schoolers because were disrespectful and a menace to this restaurant. Well the buffet was pretty mediocre and quite overpriced for the amount of food options. With the option of pretty bad brisket and equally awful chicken I mainly just ate the potatoes with chives(not worth the price of the buffet). The best thing was the watery pasta or the salads. If your looking for a quality buffet this probably is not your best bet but for a quick bite to eat it's okay. If you like dry meats and desserts you will probably really enjoy the buffet. This place is nice buffet was $29 each a bit pricey for me. But the food was pretty good! I would not spend $29 again on this but for a one time splurge it was fun. Very nice and is kid friendly. This restaurant is in the stonewall resort, it uses that advantage to have price well above market value for the surrounding area which is lacking in services and restaurants of any kind. Monopolies have their benefits. I had two breakfast buffets, one dinner buffet, and one a la carte meal while I was there. The buffets were quite nice, with a variety of well prepared and tasty dishes. The a la carte item I ordered was a Caesar salad at lunch with salmon. It was an embarrassment. The salmon was clearly frozen and then cooked to death. No seasoning, and dry as hell. When I pay for an upgrade on a salad I would like it prepared in a manner resembling competence with the tools with which we render food. This was an abomination. The drink and food prices for what you get bring this restaurant to a two star review. I will not pay a five star price for a kitchen that can only prepare mass produced items for a buffet and cannot make a very simple dish a la carte. Salmon= Salt, pepper, lemon juice, two and a half to 4 minutes each side. Use fresh fish. You have a buffet you can use the fish at the end of the day on the dinner service buffet. No excuses. Just perfect. Lovely spot to dine - outdoors by the lake. Had both dinner and lunch the next day. Missed getting the fried green tomatoes at dinner (Waiter error, but it was fine as we had so much food!). They weren't on the menu at lunch but our sweet waitress Katie asked and the chef (Steven) accommodated our request. Delicious and beautiful presentation. And GF to boot. My boyfriend and I had two meals here, breakfast and dinner. Context: week after Labor Day Dinner was overpriced and was okay. The entree options appeared overdone and for a particular audience. There was chicken with gravy, pork chop with peach salsa and a ribeye. The sides included sour cream and chive mashed potatoes and broiled Roma tomatoes with cream. Weirdly enough the 'charcuterie' and the salad bar were on opposite sides of the bar and they would have gone well together. Cheesecake was good. But Kuchen was dry. Breakfast overpriced....the single entree items were served from the buffet. Orange juice from concentrate. Sourdough not good. Eggs from egg beaters. For dessert I tried the flour less chocolate lava cake. The torte was overdone and did not ooze when I cut into it. But the ice cream was really really good. First, I just want to say DONT believe the past reviews of this place! I stayed at the resort and almost drove to Buckhannon because of the reviews of Stillwater's. We decided to give it a try and the buffet is absolutely DELICIOUS! There's something for everyone even kids. Salad bar was so fresh and plenty of choices. A variety of meats, vegetables and desserts (outstanding)! Service was so great! Worth the price. I'll probably drive down from Morgantown just for dinner at this place. Great view of the lake too! Food was good! Please try the Steak and Ale soup! It was so good!!! Our waiter was very friendly and very attentive. However our food took a very long time. Even my soup took a while to come. The restaurant was not busy at the time so not sure why it took so long and my husband and I both ordered the steak frites which was really delicious but shouldn't have taken more than 10-15 minutes to cook. We waited 25 minutes which is a little excessive. Overall food was delicious, atmosphere was nice. Price was a little much. read more

I absolutely hate this restaurant. Their food is overpriced, and taste horrible. Their lunch buffet was $17. There was like seven things, and they all taste like pure garbage. The only thing I liked, was the Oreo cheesecake. Staff was unbelievably rude too. On another note, I am staying at the hotel that this restaurant is in. I ordered room service last night, and it was $70. All I got was two drinks two sandwiches and appetizer and two desserts. They charge to walk you upstairs and automatically add a 20% tip which they don't even tell you about. read more
