The cashier was very nice and friendly, and the employees overall seem great. Unfortunately, the pricing really needs to be reevaluated. Many items are priced so high that you can find the same thing online, have it shipped directly to your door, and still pay less. For donated, used merchandise, the prices should reflect actual market value and condition. I've also had issues with electronics marked "tested." Some appear to have only been checked to see if they power on, because problems become noticeable once you actually use them. If an item is labeled tested, customers should be able to expect that its basic functions have been properly checked. The pricing also seems to be based more on online asking prices than actual sold prices. Asking prices can be significantly higher than what items really sell for. Looking at recent sold listings and pricing donated items reasonably below those amounts would make much more sense. I believe this store would sell more inventory, move items faster, and gain more repeat customers with more realistic pricing. I know I would shop here much more often if the prices were more reasonable. The employees are great. The pricing is what's pushing customers away. read more

I would absolutely not recommend going in to this place. First, their store is exceptionally unorganized. It is just a messy pile of old items that should be thrown away instead of sold. I did find something that was decent and when I checked out I was helped by Cari who was one of the rudest people I've ever met in my life. She was talking to another employee named Barbara or something that started with a B. She was so unkind to her coworker and it was really awkward. I had spoke with that other employee earlier and she was so sweet and helpful. I can't get behind a business that treats their employees that. Reconsider Stilly Thrift store. In the last year or so they have a new Manager and some new staff I believe. Staff were very rude in the past, but now the workers seem trained very well in customer service, which makes it more pleasant to shop there and better for profits I'm sure. Although this is a nice little thrift store, be aware that they charge you 4% for using a debit card on every item. I wasn't aware of that (apparently there is a sign) and was confused when everything on my receipt cost more than the tagged price. Poor customer service. Went in looking for children's items. As I'm browsing, the cashier with short grey hair is talking to another customer about how they don't like when young people come into the store. The customer didn't agree, they uncomfortably nodded their head while paying. Meanwhile, the cashier made another comment about people in their 20s not wanting to work, not collecting their coins and being lazy. Customer leaves, the same cashier sits down behind the counter, gets on their phone. There were at least 12 other customers in the store. Absolutely disgusting this cashier felt it was okay to speak about young customers poorly to another customer, completely unprompted. I won't be back. read more

A LONG SHOT TURNS INTO DIRECT HIT! Went there yesterday to browse around for awhile as I quite often do. Remembering I needed a special size washer to fix my cat scratch post at home, I asked Assistant Manager Erica if she had seen anything in the store that could possibly work. She went into the back and brought out a "box" of all sorts of washers/screws/bolts, etc. BINGO! She had exactly what I needed! She explained that if someone asks for something specific, it's important to her to try and have it. Well, I'll tell you what.....it was surely appreciated by me for sure! The prices are okay. Clothing is a little overpriced, but the home goods and kitchenware items are decently priced. The clearance/bargin sections are where the real deals are at. The staff is okay. My husband and went to this store and were stopped at the entrance. We were informed that they were only allowed 10 people in the store due to the pandemic. That was no problem and we were willing to wait. About 10 minutes and 7 people left the store but we were still not allowed inside the store. We left and will probably not go back. This is actually a great little thrift shop. After reading other reviews, I was braced for a brusque interaction here, but I experienced none of that. The staff seemed jovial and cheerfully worked together on arranging items. And, wow, this place is super well organized. The prices are very low. Same grumpy lady just chewed my husband out for donating. None of it was junk and it's just after Lunch time, so it's not right before closing. She hollered at him that he needs to get permission to donate furniture( a beautiful oak bookcase)yet he asked someone and they had approved. She upped the ante and declared he must call... not in the slightest polite tone but a 'climb down your throat wench'approach! Clean, organized, and pretty fair prices in here, if you find what you are looking for. However, how about a little friendliness or customer service? Just a smile perhaps? I am a regular customer at thrift shops all over, you could say it's a little hobby I have. I have been in this shop 3 times over the last 3 years and I always feel unwanted by employees. I understand business and I understand that theft is a problem. But do your customers need to know just what you do to prevent theft? I'm okay with a sign on the dressing room letting me know that theft isn't wanted around your store. Have you counted how many signs you have posted, threatening your guests? They are everywhere! Signs about prosecuting shoplifters, not selling unpriced goods (assuming tags get removed to hope a clerk gives you a lower price), backpacks not being carried in the store due to theft, signs on the jewelry in the case to only show one piece at a time and to never leave a customer to "dig" through the bins, and to never ask for a lower price as they don't allow employees to authorize that. I am fine with absolutely all of these rules being in place within a business, but can you please keep it between your employees instead of posting it everywhere inside for your guests to read? It is not pleasent to feel as though you assume everyone is a thief. Also, just becuase I am a "younger" thrift store customer doesn't mean I am there to steal from you. I do notice that you do not greet me when I enter the front door (as you did the older woman behind me) even though I entered with a smile and a hello, I do notice that you keep a very watchful eye as I browse around, and that you stare extra long while I leave the door. I agree with previous poster regarding the insanely negative woman who works here. She is older...bottle blonde...tattoo of a cross on her wrist. When I was in the store yesterday she was demeaning another staff member very loudly. It was an incredibly icy vibe that she created in the store. From the constant reminders every other minute about what time the store closes to her hollering for her coworker to clean the parking lot and get the baskets together she was tyrannical. I understand that this store is run by volunteers but somebody ought to tell this woman to just stay home and be miserable there. I purchased almost a hundred dollars worth of items but because when she was totaling me out it was 3:57pm she refused to let me look at an item in the case. She told me to come back tomorrow. I think their pricing gun is broken! This stuff is being sold for near original retail prices if not more in some cases. So unless you like a big old rechargeable flashlight with no charger for $10, or a late 90's boombox where the radio and cd player don't work for $20, or $0.50 for a year old AARP magazine, don't waste your time here. It was actually pretty fun to look through the store and laugh at the insane prices. Here's some other fun ones, $10 for an air mattress straight out of the eighties (and apparently air mattresses have come a LONG way since then. It looked like a cheap swimming pool toy. ) $20 for a cheap inflatable raft. You could seriously cut these prices in half and they'd still be way overpriced. Apparently a majority of their business comes from the Senior Center which is located next door. It's sad to see them getting taken advantage of. So if you're looking for a laugh, stop in. This Local Thrift Shop has been here for years. A few years back Smokey Point Community Church did a neighborhood outreach & gave this Shop a major remodel. I donate most of my families items here. Please only donate during business hours (no dumping). Tip: once you donate, ask the cashier for a "receipt" for your tax purposes. I shop here when I have a specific need. I like this shop because I find it's an original, many Sr.'s donate here so there are many things vintage. No computers, tv or children's toys. On multiple occasions I have witnessed being incredibly rude and cruel to not only other volunteers/ employees, but, horrifyingly, to customers!!! I've been coming to this thrift store for years and have overlooked the typically overpriced stuff because every once and a while they'll be a great find. Today, though, the incredibly rude employee did me in. The older gal with short blonde hair that wears a face shield is just completely abrasive, derogatory, and condescending. I used to recommend this honey hole of vintage finds to all my friends, but after several horrible experiences with one particular judgmental, rude, completely unprofessional, seemingly unhappy woman (whom I've heard from others has given them her horrendous attitude as well) I will NEVER recommend this store to anyone. This is how truly wretched this woman is: Not only did I help this woman when I first got inside the store at my last visit (w/o a "thank you" or slight smile), 10 Mins later she, begrudgingly, let me in the dressing room after telling me I didn't have much time since they "close in 20 minutes" (I had 2 blouses- I'm not a bloody invalid)- before she let me in the dressing room, just when she had her back to me she mumbled- completely UNPROVOKED since I was silent, "we have families TOO." I said "I'm sorry, what?" She tells me "we're all volunteers here so we would like to get home and not wait around for..." I had to interrupt and said "I know ma'am, my grand-dad volunteers here too" (which he does, has for years, and we are all stilly members)... she slams the door behind me as she says "good for HIM." WTF? Wtf is going on with this woman? Not only is she a total B to me, but now my grand-dad, who works harder than anyone else in there, is getting bad mouthed by this person too? I came out and politely asked if I was inconveniencing her by trying on 2 things, by now she's surrounded with other old folks, and shrugs at me and just says "no, why would u say that?" Well this is tough. I love the store selection but some of the volunteer staff are not doing this place any favors. The owner would do better to hire qualified, trained and kinder staff. I've been in the store multiple times and the woman volunteers are awful to customers and each other to the point of embarrassment. My grown kids won't even come with me to this place because of a special drama filled visit where one volunteer woman was crying while hangin up clothes and another was chewing out a customer. Served up very tidy and very cheap - just the way I like my junk stores!! They know how to do junk right. My friend got a faconnable jacket up there just yesterday for $2.99. I got an awesome ugly Christmas sweater for a party I'm going to and a cute Mary Engelbreit bowl with cherries on it in mint condition. Lots of crafty sewing stuff, if you are in to that. I used to love going to this thrift store! No longer will I be a patron to it. Donating or shopping. The manager was extremely rude to me and called me weird for mentioning that I donated some stuff before I asked if my four-year-old could use the bathroom. I understand why places must have a strict bathroom policy. Drugs people stealing things etc. I live in the community, I am aware. But I also don't think it was weird of me to mention that I just donated something before I asked to use the bathroom many places have a policy is you have to be a customer to use the bathroom. All she had to do was say thank you for your donation we have a strict no customer use of our bathrooms. There could've been many things she could've said that would've been positive or helpful, but instead she chose to be rude and told me, what does that have to do with it, and then called me weird to my face. Ridiculous! I tried to purchase a golf bag and was told I could not purchase it because it did not have a price tag on it. When I asked the store manager how much the golf bag was she said she didn't know and could not sell it to me. Seems ridiculous to me that a store would have product on the floor and not be able to sell them to the customer. Not only did she not even make any attempt to get my name and number , she was extremely rude and condescending to me and my wife. You only allow me to give one star, however I would give them zero stars because of the customer service that I received at this location.
