The Swalty Sisters is a new gift shop located downtown Winter Garden. The have lots of fun tongue…read morein cheek type merchandise mixed in with gift essentials. You can also create personalized items and custom baskets. I stopped in to check out their Brumate inventory. I was pleased that they had several items available. Unfortunately not the design that I was looking for but I was able to find the perfect hostess gift for an upcoming event.

If you're looking for a fun, unique or even practical gift for a friend, this is one of the best…read moreshops to visit in Downtown Winter Garden. It is not located on main Plant St. so its easy to miss for those who are not familiar with the area. However, it is just off one of the side streets and a few steps away from the east end of the Saturday Farmer's Market. You can find books, beauty products, glassware, stationary, and so much more. I really really love the Bitchstix body balm line they carry. These include lip balms (with and without SPF) and even anti-chafing balms (in a packaging that looks like a giant lip balm). All of them are super great to protect you from the Florida sun and heat or even on your travels. Another thing I paticularly love about that brand is that they support an important cause-- survivors of abuse and assult. Kudos for Swalty Sisters for carrying them. Back to this amazing shop, they're super friendly and helpful. Don't miss them next time you're in Winter Garden.

My friend and I have always talked about learning how to sew. When I was driving my daily morning…read moreroute, and saw a sign for sewing classes, we had to sign up! We did the Sewing 101 class on a Saturday morning. We thought we'd maybe come in and learn how to use a machine, but we even made a little project while we were there! We started not knowing how to thread a sewing machine, and 1.5 hours later we walked out with bags we made! The instructor and the assistant were both very nice. There were only 2 of us in the class, and some kids who were working on projects did stop in a bit later. The instructor explained you can also book a time to bring in a project you're working on, and they'll help you make it happen. This little girl was literally sewing a whole dress from a pattern! They also offer a Sip and Sew class you can book with your friends. You can bring wine, you get to pick your fabric, and they'll walk you through making bags. Overall, we had THEE BEST time! It was worth every penny. I can't wait to go back and do it again.

Poor customer service but great quality. I am an Irish dancer and got a new dress at the beginning…read moreof the year. These dresses go for $3k-4k when new so I bought mine used for $1,000. Because it was not custom to me, I needed some alterations and took it to a place I had used before and the first place only made it worse and I needed someone to fix it which is when Uptown Stitch was recommended to me by another dance family. I brought it in explaining what I needed done as well as the issues I had with the previous tailor. They assured me they could do my alterations as well as fix what the previous tailor had messed up. What I originally asked for was for the body part of the dress to be brought in, the skirt to be brought up, and a pleat in the front of the skirt to be fixed as the previous tailor had done something to warp it. I brought it to them in March telling them I needed it by mid May. I get a text about a week before I originally said I needed to pick it up and they said my dress was ready for pick up so I drive an hour there after work to get it but when I try it on it fits on my body fine but I immediately notice that the skirt is still warped. The main tailor then tells me she hasn't gotten around to it yet and she didn't know they told me I could come pick it up, so I have to leave it there and drive an hour back home with no dress. 2 days later, I'm told the dress is now ready for real so I drive the hour there and try it on, something feels off but at this point I just think it's the bad luck with the dress. It feels right on my body and when looking in the mirror, the length looks good, so I pay and leave and drive the hour home. I couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong and when trying it on again, I realized that the back of the skirt was never brought up. I take pictures showing the 3 inch difference between the front and back and send them an email asking why the skirt wasn't completed and if there was an issue preventing them from doing it. I got an email response being told to bring it back in the next day to talk about it. So the next day I drive another hour back to this place and when I get there, they tell me that I never told them I wanted the back brought up, which I found weird that they wouldn't say via email where they had a paper trail and instead only told me in person. The tailor lady was nice about it and apologetic and seemed willing to work with me to fix it, while the front desk lady became defensive and tried arguing to the point where I thought about walking out, but I needed this done and there aren't many places willing to work with this kind of dress. She was telling me that's what they thought I wanted and they didn't have bringing the back up written on the ticket (the ticket she handwrites and didn't show me to verify she wrote the right thing). I could understand if I had maybe forgot to mention the skirt as a whole but they had brought up the front perfectly and to the exact point I asked for, I wouldn't have asked for them to just bring up the front of the skirt. On service alone, I would have given this a one star review. First them telling me it was ready when it wasn't and then the lady at the front desk was very rude about what seems to have just been a misunderstanding. But the quality of the work was fabulous, they were able to fix what the first tailor did and then some. I wouldn't recommend them to others at my dance school if they had other options, just because I don't like supporting businesses that demonstrate that kind of behavior, but I would recommend them as a last resort as they definitely did get the job done and the final dress looks beautiful.
