I wasn't expecting much though, since I've had been to most pubs in the old town and tried more kinds of beers than most my worries were that this would just like drinking but in a new group of people. That's where I was wrong, the historic pub tour is not about drinking and you probably wouldn't expect to leave the tour drunk (but of course not sober). Instead it was an interesting story telling with well chosen pubs and drinks along journey which is well bound together with the history of Stockholm and the alcohol culture. For the story telling I'd absolutely rank this 5/5, it was with big interest, exciting storytelling and good knowledge our guide introduced us to the Stockholm drinking history. The pub choices were well thought through even if it was only 4 pubs, which in my opinion could have been a couple more. We got good mead, beer and schnapps and only at one place took a full bottle the place of tasting cup. Hopefully in the future that bottle as well will be replaced by tastings. Since it takes place in the old town you should absolutely increase the challenge by wearing high heel shoes and bashing your head against the cellar roofs. I've always preferred when tours are not a construct from a bigger company and this certainly wasn't, the tour is held by a Swedish couple with interest for beer and history which makes it so much nicer and friendlier. To sum it up, great tour but could have had some more drinks/replaced a full bottle with tastings and you should definitely do it if you come to Stockholm as a tourist or if you already live here and don't know about exciting facts like how being drunk used to be expected in Stockholm. You will also meet some nice people if you want to make the night longer. Our tour started at 18:00 and ended around 20:45. So I'd really suggest eating before as we got quite hungry at the end.

It is a fairly impressive, old building and although I don't feel it compares to similar buildings in Berlin and London - it still is pretty cool to check-out. They do offer English tours every-day but the entrance is quite tucked away into a dark corner - to wait for the tour they expect you to wait outside with no member of staff there which is a concept I really don't like - what if you're early/late or trying to shelter for the rain? The tour times are also quite confusing meaning for a few weeks in summer and winter and around the year they don't offer anything at all - sadly this fell in the time I was visiting Stockholm and I was unable to do the 1:30 pm tour. I really do feel these are peak times to run the tours and the fact they're unable to offer them at this time, is embarrassing and stupidity. Even during these times, I do find having one time per day really restrictive and perhaps offering a few more, even if they charged just a couple of krona with a dedicated waiting area and a bolder entrance would be good. Inside, Parliament is laid out more like a US / EU type structure compared to the likes of the UK. Still, this remains a grand and historic place and a nice sight to see while strolling across the city of Stockholm, made better by the beautiful gardens and canal of the building. 3* due to how difficult it was to find the visitors entrance with only one police officer who spoke only English and couldn't help in a busy, touristy area and other factors such as difficulty finding and getting a tour (even their phone lines are only open 2 days a week for TWO HOURS!) do let what could be an amazing tourist attraction down - like come on, it almost feels you don't want to show off the home of Swedish democracy and welcome visitors from Sweden and overseas?

It just happened that within the hour they had an infrequent tour in English - so we started the line. Eventually a considerable line formed. At about 10 minutes before it was to begin a representative came out and stuck stickers on us and began leading us in. We had a security check point where they X-rays our things... then we were led to a locker room where we could check some of our things into storage. At this point we were led through many areas of the Parliament House. Considerable time was iven with our guide who brought us into the existing and past facilities. All told this was much better then I might have expected! As such I recommend it to all who have any interest in museums + this was a free tour!

Took a free 25 minute tour - very useful for explaining the history behind the ship and its unfortunate sinking - the Titanic of Sweden. The ship itself is breathtaking! Lovingly restored and hopefully they can keep it around for posterity. There's a nice film to watch that provides additional background. Great multi floor exhibits and viewing platforms for the Vasa. Highly recommend!!!

We ordered a side of salami and Swedish cheese and the hairy pig board. I enjoyed the side, but the board not so much. The board consisted of wild boar sausage with broche bun, wild boar taco, peppercorn fries, and wild boar lasagna. The board was quite heavy and salty. I didn't have enough stomach space to even try the taco. I did enjoy the fries, but it's not enough for me to want to return.

The salami and sausages were thought to have gluten so I went with the smoked shell on shrimp, a cheese dip, and some salad with olives. I wasn't crazy about the smoked shrimp but the olives and cheese were good. The husband enjoyed a sausage in bun which he said was great. Overall we liked the vibe and I think if you can eat the locally sourced meats like my husband it's probably a pretty solid place. If you're gf or allergy you'll probably still be hungry at the end of the meal like I was.

There were five elements to see at the Royal Palace that were still open during our visit…read more The changing of the guard/marching band on Wednesday at 12:15pm was free. We arrived about half an hour to secure our spot. The event lasted for half an hour and was a mixture of ceremony, band marching and playing and some history about the tradition and the regiment of guards. The highlight of our visit. One tip that worked for us was to split the visit of the palace itself and the changing of the guards. When we visited the rest of the palace the day after there just wasn't that many people. The chapel was free to enter and was located on the second floor opposite of the entrance to the treasury. It wasn't as large or ornate as other palace chapels we've visited. The treasury showcased many crowns, scepters, keys, orbs and other objects used by past and current royals. Placards in English was available just after the ticket desk. We saw everything in around 20 minutes. Tre Kronor museum was located underground in the remains of the previous palace that burned down in 1697. The artifacts were limited but the signage throughout was helpful in context. Near the end was a movie about the fire and construction of the replacement palace. The Royal Apartments had the first and second floors open for viewing but not all of it. Most rooms were darkened for preservation but the White Sea Room (last available room on the second floor) was our favorite as it was so much more inviting. Since the tour deadends on each floor, one has to backtrack the same way to exit. Next time we're in town we'll go to Drottingham and compare palaces.

The fountain is connected to the city water system and yes, the water from the fountain is completely drinkable. Note the cannonball in the corner of building number 7 in the plaza. Legend has it that it dates back to the Stockholm Bloodbath. And yes, this was the plaza where the term "bloodbath" was coined following mass executions in November 1520. For those of you who don't know, Sandmann's has a free city tour (where offered) that lasts about 3 hours. However, if you are then interested in other tours (Alternative, Old Town, etc.) you have to pay for them. Here, this is not the case, the company offers three different tours (City Tour, Old Town, and Gamla Stan (I think)). All of them work on a free (tips only) basis. I spent literally a whole day going on all three tours they offer... and there is enough time to grab a quick bite in between and head to the next one. The guides I experienced the city with were Ellen and Ben; both of them were awesome! They were informative, high energy, and friendly. Tours were a good combination of seeing lots of stuff, as well as hearing detailed, but not boringly so, explanation of what we are looking at, the story behind it, and how it related to the city. Tour length of about 90 minutes was actually quite nice, especially when you consider that you can take all three of their tours for free. As for start locations, they are both easy to get to by the T-Bana. The brochure details where the first and third tour meets, but more detail of the second tour would be nice. Guides are holding signs, but no the much more visible umbrellas.
