I cannot decide whether I love or hate you…read more Vauxhall is great in that it serves both an overground service (into Waterloo, out to Clapham Junction, Wimbledon and off out to Surrey), and underground (Victoria Line). There is also a bus station here so there are at least some alternatives if your journey is scuppered by defective trains. It's within walking distance of Oval station, Pimlico station, and is just a short bus ride to Victoria. There always seems to be roadworks or some kind of construction works going on here and the station is a nightmare if you're running late for your train as they always seem to block off exactly the path you need to get to your platform. Still... I use this station to go home and see the family so it serves me well!

The Train station has recently undergone works to install lifts to all platforms and to the subway which leads to the Underground and to the other side of the Vauxhall Cross Gyratory. This has made a massive difference to the accessibility of the station but many issues remain: the platforms are still not level with trains so people with mobility problems, especially wheelchair users, will still require assistance. Also, the underground station itself still has no lifts. The bus station on the other hand is excellent, well designed with striking architecture and copes well with the large number of buses serving it, it is also able to accomodate modern, accessible buses.

Well, it turned out that I was completely wrong - this station is absolutely massive, much, much bigger than I have every experienced (in fact it is the biggest station in England). Yeah, this station is nothing short of massive, and it simply took me ages just to locate the tube station so I could get back to my hotel. Getting from one to the other involves lots and lots of walking and the signage could use a little improvement. If you do have to connect here, I advice you pack some patience. Lots of it. And maybe a compass. Note: The Bakerloo platform is curved. The carriages are straight. This means there's a gap of as much as six or eight inches between the train and the platform. Mind the gap.

When conversing with the very nice employee here and he was explaining the zones he informed me that the majority of all travelers remain within Zone 1-2 on the Jubilee line. He also informed that the Westminster stop would be where a lot of the sights would be. Upon arrival, I noticed how clean the station was, I didn't see a garbage can in sight, but yet, I didn't one piece of garbage on the floor. All stops here have signage everywhere-- where to transfer, where to exit, some of the sights at that station, etc. what a huge help when you're in a city or country for the first time! They have an employee at the gate so you can ask questions and they are actually eager to assist without an attitude!

I wasn't thinking that my stop wasn't the last stop on the line so I wasn't see Salisbury in the list of several stops. Duh! Anyway finally got on and it was a smooth 1 hour 23 minute ride. Ambiance: there are tons of shops here with lots of food options to choose from. We went to Pret and bought sandwiches and drinks to eat on the train as that is allowed.

The location is great because if you come in here, you're close to Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, Embankment and Leicester Square. There are not too many tracks so it's easy to get your train. We took a Southeastern train to London Bridge here and it was very quick. For connected tube service, you can access the Northern and the Bakerloo lines. It's quite a trek to get to the Bakerloo line but it's nice to have the connections in one place. Also, many bus lines go right be here so it's easy to get a direct ride to this station. While we were staying near Trafalgar Square, this was our most used transit hub.

Oval station isn't oval. However, it is located close to the Oval cricket ground, which is oval. In fact, you can see it on the map on the homepage for Oval Underground Station for yourself to confirm that it is oval. The Northern line stops here. It's served by escalator rather than lift. It's the nearest Underground station to where I go salsa dancing on Friday evenings. Ummm, I've run out of meaningful things to say about Oval Underground station, so I'll stop here. Just mind the gap!
