The red and purple trails were my favorite. On my second trip here I wanted to hike for about an hour but I ended up getting lost. Lost in terms of I want to get out but I don't know which way is the exit...I could definitely see the trail markers all throughout though! I recalled seeing a red color marker at the entrance so I followed that but ended up going deeper into the woods. I don't believe the white trail is fully finished as I had to double back a few times. I used google maps to get a sense of where I was but still couldn't make my way to the main road. Went in circles between the blue and green trails (the green trail said it was a 5K, not going to lie I got a bit worried there) but eventually I managed to make my way to Bortons road! and then it was another 30 min walk to my car along kettle run road. So what was supposed to be an hour nice weekend stroll ended up being 2 1/2 hours. Can't complain though, loved exploring!

We decided to explore Black Run Preserve for our first bike trail experience since moving to the area and it didn't disappoint. There are plenty of bike and hiking trails and doing a little research online prior to going I was able to map out which trails would be best for us, specifically since I'm a nervous beginner lol. The trails are color coded and tbe associated color markings are on trees along the trails so you know which trail you're on. There is so much beautiful scenery surrounding you whether you're on bike or foot and there's a real sense of peace and tranquility in the Preserve, Definitely spray yourself down with bug repellent and wear longer pants and tops if it isn't too hot because there are warning signs for ticks and such given it's truly a wooded area. We will be back in the fall for another ride among the beautiful foliage.

Overall the trails are pretty easy to follow and shaded. You can get a decent workout since there is some elevation (our elevation map looks up and down and up and down, etc). Come Again? Yes! This satisfied my hiking cravings. In the area there aren't that many places to get a decent hike but this one is good.

Luckily we brought water! Don't forget to bring water , bug spray, and sunscreen if you come when it is sunny! Amico Island State Park is a beautiful, stunning isolated park. Since it is isolated, there is a lot of different wildlife that can be seen all over the island. My boyfriend and I saw butterflies, ducks, mushrooms, reeds, grasses, and more. There were also birds that could be heard in the trees. There was not as many birds as expected though that might have been due to the heat. We also didn't see any deer but probably for the same reason. There were many bugs, so be prepared for that if you do come. There is one main trail which is very easy to follow as well as side trails. About halfway through the trial, there is a viewpoint which is great for photos and enjoying the scenery. This park is great for hikers, birders, nature photographers and much more! I would totally recommend!

I noticed a few benches and tables along the path if you want to stop and picnic. Overall, it was such a peaceful and serene setting, especially by the water, and the many sweet smelling honeysuckle paths. The park is basically a 2mi loop which took me about 35 mins to complete from beginning to end, with a couple stops for pics, and to take it all in. I only noticed one other person when I started, but as I was leaving, quite a few groups were arriving. So if you want to avoid crowds maybe early is best, or an afternoon start for those who want a lot of company.

The river here lines right up with a nice neighborhood- which allows for plenty of free parking. There is also a small "beach" where you can easily drop a kayak in. For the most part, the Delaware River is fairly clam- but you do need to watch out for all the boats. If you kayak out a bit you can get to some pretty great areas. On of my personal favorites is the Palmyra Cove Nature Park which is on the New Jersey side past the Tacony Palmyra Bridge.

I wore sneakers but would have greatly benefited from hiking boots for more ankle support after slipping and tripping my way along the dense leaf covered dirt trail that continued to get more rocky on the ascent. Also, you will need to climb some legit large rocks/boulders to reach the Pulpit Rock overlook but the challenge was well worth it for the views! My gf's & I chose the easy way down which was to take the gravel road alongside the observatory that eventually transitions to pavement. Even the decline of this road was steep in itself. No easy way up or down haha! I saw people of all ages and fitness levels along my hike and plenty of cute dogs! Bring snacks and water to re-energize during a rest break. My one friend packed some TP and I thought it was a great idea cuz you just never know when you might have to go! Parking lot is a joke with ~20-25 spots but many ppl, including us, parked along Reservoir Rd so make sure to get here early in the morning or expect to walk a couple extra miles just to reach the start of the trail.

The hardest part of the hike is getting to Pulpit Rock, as it starts with a fairly steep road to get to the trail, and then some more elevation climb as you get up to the lookout. From there, it's probably another 2.5 miles or so to get to the Pinnacle, but the elevation gain is minimal. Both of these stops provide great views, with lots of raptors flying around if you're lucky! Bring snacks and water, especially on a hot day, and cameras to take pictures!

It's a 53.5 mile trail through the Pine Barrens. It starts at Ongs Hat in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, continues south through Wharton State Forest, and ends at Bass River State Forest. You will see lots of abandoned cranberry bogs, cedar and pitch pine forests, and ruins of colonial era iron furnaces. It was started in 1961 by a hiking club. The trail is well blazed with pink. Be careful of ticks. The trail is only moderately difficult because of length. You can hike it all at once as long as you have three or four days, but you need to camp. You need a camping permit from the state forest office. I've been doing it in stages as day hikes as I'm just parking at one of the roads that cuts through it each time.
